Alex,

I have a question...........

Why does a "disney site" need:

Universal/Sea World forums
Universal/Islands of Adventures Forums
Universal Resorts & Hotels
Universal Trip Reports
Sea World/Discovery Cove

I understand why the other sites are here, but the boards I listed have NOTHING to do with Disney?

I feel like I was just served a big bowl of Dairy Queen vanilla soft-serve, topped with hot fudge, nuts, and whipped cream. Oh, and a cherry, too! :teeth:

Thanks, Alex and Pete, for sprucing up the landscape around here. :)

Not to worry, folks, about where the argumentative will go. I'm sure the DB regulars can find another BB on which to have meetings of their great minds.

Excellent post Brer Papa and now the folks on the CB are going to hate those of us that like to debate because it will interfere with the CB and they will now have to try and skip and sort through all the topics so as to not see some of the debates.

So??? If we follow the posting guidelines we'll be okay. Maybe the members of the CB will put pressure on "management" to open the debate board again::yes::

"perhaps, it may have been wiser to 'police" the DB board better...instead of canning it..."

ahh, you mean you would approve of posts being censured then? Somehow I don't see anyone really being happy with that at all.

I don't think you can have it both ways guys.

I got a perverse kick at times from reading the bickering that went on there. Maybe there does need to be places for people to express their frustrations and anger with the world.

But I think I repect the staff for taking the stand to try to bring a less combatative atmosphere to a site that they obviously puts alot of blood, sweat and tears into.

People are responsible for what they post, but I think that this being a family oriented website, should be reason enough to rethink wheither a forum where so much flaming goes on between adults is really the best thing for the site in general.

I will miss the entertaining aspects of the DB,, but I think I agree with what Pete and Alex are trying to do. They had to know they would come under attack for this decision. In the end, we are in their 'house' so to speak,, and should abid by how they wish to run it.

I have lurked here for about 2 years now, but only decided to join in recently btw. :)

Needless to say, I will miss the debate board. Considering that it was among the most 10 active boards, I am sure I am not alone. I would hope that management would reconsider this decision and either choose to monitor it more closely or not and let the chips fall where they may. Closing it is akin to throwing the baby out with the bath water.

Can't speak for the others, but I'm here to stay. Actually, I just purchased stock in pixie dust. After a few weeks, I'm sure the dust will be flying;)

Why would we leave? We were told we can post here, on the CB, as long as it fits within the guidelines.

Ok so have it password accesible only you have to get an authorization to access the DB from a mod or you do not get in. You have to log into that board separatly then you could keep out the people that don't want to go there would that help things?

WebMaster Alex.....

If I may....a question to you...

if it is OK to still debate....as long as the debaters stay within the posted guidelines...why can't there be a board where the debates are debated?

Whie this doesn't contribute to your question on why the DIS "needs" a debate board...it does leave open the question on why debates are still allowed.... (which I think they should be)...and if they are still allowed....why take away the "DIS home" of where they can debate...

just wondering......

I am confused, are you saying that you can forsee a time when the DIS would cease to be a discussion board and would instead be a internet board that provides solely planning information and travel arrangement services for WDW trips???
IMO, I think such a change would greatly, greatly decrease the amount of hits per day, this site would get. I could be wrong, but wouldn't this be the opposite of a internet website's goals???

Well, I'm not Miss Cleo or anything, but yes, I can forsee a time where the DIS would cease to have a community board. Particularly if it gets overrun with hostility and rule breaking. If you look at the planning boards, very little of the traffic on those boards are community or debate board regulars. Most of us on the CB & DB are longtime DISers who might only go to the planning boards very infrequently and even then most of us know the Disney ins and out pretty well that we don't need the planning boards from a Disney newbie perspective. I do think the site could carry on strictly as a Disney planning site, why not? Its certainly a wealth of information for those who are Orlando bound and gets a lot of traffic each day from people that know nothing about the CB or DB.

Two thoughts...

For one thing, I seem to remember from past posts that Pete likes Universal. I'm not sure about Sea World though.

Also, Disney parks aren't the only attraction being sold. I believe that packages are also available that include Universal.

True, but you missed what Alex said, "So far nobody has been able to answer my question on WHY a disney site needs a "debate board." The key words are, "Disney site"

Are you handcuffing yourself to the chainlink, DSNY FN? ;)

When I registered some years back....I agreed to abide by the DIS rules...

if a post is out of line or in violation...then the post is locked, closed or deleted...

if that is "censure"...then, yes...

why?

because posters expect the mods to do their job...

case in poin...last week to ten days...X-rated pictures were posted on the CB...the mods reacted quickly and decisively...to the applause and thanks of many....

the mods did the job expected of them...

"policing" threads...on any board...and all the boards...is part of their duties....

I don't see that as having it both ways...
