You get the gold star!!!

Here where i live in Lancaster, Pa we have a lot of people of German descent and they have a lot of sayings that are called Pa Dutch sayings.

Throw the horse over the fence some hay.
Throw Papa down the stairs his hat.

Took me a long time to figure those out. :)

Terry

Outten the lights or Put out the lights

Have you also heard "Up the Line" its never down the line but always up the line.

Good morning all...

Woke up to find the furnace is not working...it's 58 degrees and falling. Plus my laundry tub is clogged. So basically, we're frigid in dirty clothes!

Hey everyone. Haven't posted for a very long time. I took a few post doctorate courses and was spending time with my DM who has been having some problems. Then the holidays came along. Time flies when you are having fun. I was also dealing with the guilt of not sending MidNite the tshirt I promised her. The design is printed & the shirt is purchased, I just have to iron it on and send it out. Unfortunately, I made some great tshirt designs for my last trip (which I have this board to thank for) but my ironing on left a lot to be desired. By the time I was finished with my shirts, I was reluctant (and a little scared) to do MidNite's. So I stayed away from the boads so I wouldn't have to face my fear. :scared1: Well, this past week I decided I was going to bite the bullet and come back. I saw that the other board had closed (you go Baloo) and found this one. unfortunately, I did not get through all 83 pages, but I did skim through most of them.

I am taking my Nephews to DW in February and will be making some tshirts for them. I will also redo some of the ones I made & hopefully I have learned from my mistakes. :rotfl2:

It's nice seeing all of you again & MidNite I promise I will bite the bullet and iron on the design.

Take care, Penny aka Chaos Cent

btw - glynis - you have a penny with mouse ears in your design. I am going to try and recreate it if that's ok with you. My DH gave me a license plate with Dr. 1 Cent on it (for Penny) but that's a little big for the mouse ears. ::yes::
Thanks, Penny

well that's just wrong - do the weekend birthdays always just get a collective Happy Birthday thread or is that a new thing and we aren't getting our own birthday thread?

well tammi is getting her own thread!!!
http://disboards.com/showthread.php?p=11083139#post11083139

and if they are going to stop making individual threads - I will just have to dub something the official birthday wisher of the DDA -

welcome back Penny!!

You might want to think about hearing the back story on the penny first:

it is part of the official DDA logo:

a while ago someone's son swallowed a penny and the doctor told her she had to go through his poop until she found it.

We helped her keep a good sense of humor about her poop patrol. We had cheers for the penny, we had daily updates, you've never seen a group root for a penny like that before! We wanted her to make it into a pooh penny once it resurfaced but alas once it came out she said it was a little worse for wear and gave it the big flush. Of course not before her children (the other two had egged their brother into swallowing it) got a good look and whiff of it!!!! :rotfl2:

all the talk about the penny though did prompt me to ask about you - everyone was sure you would be delighted to know you were thought of with the poop penny!!! ;)

I did the design and if you want the mickey penny - I am more than happy to make it for you - I just thought you should know that everytime someone in the DDA looks at it though - images of the poop penny will come to mind!!

It was a very entertaining week -

Well.. I am a temporary SAHD.
The company I work for is slower during the winter months. They gave me the option to take 5 months off, so I jumped at it (got to keep all my benefits, seniority, vacation time and bonuses).
I figure my daughter will only be this little once. I felt like I was missing out on alot.
Since I have been home with her, we have mastered the art of going to the potty(yay! no more pull-ups), sleeping through the night in her own bed(yay! now I can get more personal "attention" from my wife), and, she has been healthy as can be.
The preschool/daycare that she was in, always seemed to have at least one child sick all the time, consequently, she would constantly get sick.
I am dreading the end of Feb. when I have to return to work.
For so long we couldn't wait for Feb. to get here for our trip.. if only I could freeze time when we're there.
I really feel for all the SAHMs and SAHDs out there. It is alot of work, but the rewards have be awesome. I am sure my daughter or I will never forget this special time we had had together.
It is nice though, to come here for some adult conversation sometimes. My wife works really hard and it has really given her a break too.

My brother says the same thing. He owns his own plumbing company and his wife is a full time teacher. Since her job pays more and offers benefits it was a no brainer for her to keep her job and DB stay at home. When he gets a job, he schedules it for when his wife is home, or when my parents can babysit the kids. It works well for them. He did tell me that he hates summer, because he then has to work full time while his wife gets to stay home.

I sure think it's a great thing! Your daughter is sure lucky to have you with her all the time, and believe me, she will remember it and it will have a huge impact on her.

IMHO...I would let it go...it may have not offended anyone else. As someone who is extremely involved in church politics (I am on the Council) there is always someone who will have a problem with something..it's the nature of life. Take a deep breath...remember you are the good guy volunteering your time.
Kristine

I think I agree with this. It's tough, though. And it probably doesn't even matter that you used the "mandatory" word. You and I both know that there are people who won't come to the meeting anyway, and you'll be getting calls from them for the information. Just be your pleasant self, and things will smooth over.

Good luck. PM me if you want to talk some more about it.

Sounds like you are in for a fun evening, enjoy :goodvibes

Well, it could have been better. We had planned on going to a theater here that has a restaurant in it so we could eat dinner while watching the movie. Unfortunately the showing was sold out, so we tried to find another theater. We finally found one with a showing that would get us home before midnight, and I thought, "ok, I won't get dinner, but I can at least get a pickle." No such luck! They didn't sell them there. DH got a huge Diet Coke and a large popcorn. Boy was I wanting to cheat, but I didn't!

And the movie! I love the story of King Kong, but they added so many creepy crawly things like 8 foot spiders, 15 foot long centipedes, killer crickets, etc. that I was squirming for at least 1 of the 3 hours. Once they got off that island it was a fantastic movie for me. However, DH loved it, so I guess it was good! To each his own, right.

It was nice just being the 2 of us. I do enjoy that!

PNO4TE- I would absolutely love to do what you do for a living! I enjoy music so much. I play 4 instruments and LOVE to sing. How did you get into doing this for a living?? Do you teach for a school or out of your home?

I started out my career teaching Elementary School music. Took 10 years off to be a SAHM and have a second child. When we moved back to Virginia I started out substitute teaching and quickly remembered why I had been ready to leave the teaching profession 10 years prior :teeth: It was the POLITICS of public schools that got to me, not the teaching itself.

When I knew it was time for me to go back to work I thought about private lessons in my home or in a rental studio. But there was an ad in the local paper that offered a job in a private music school and I went in for the interview and was hooked! Once I passed all the exams to become a Yamaha teacher I was hired full time. I teach 6 days a week, by my own choice.

I teach classroom lessons to 3year olds through adults and private piano in my own studio in the school. I also teach voice and music composition. I started this job back in 1992 and it seems as if I just began. I LOVE what I do!

I have kept my hand in conducting too, as I am the assistant director of a choral group at my alma mater, which is a University located in our city.

Thanks for asking!

In your opinion, what is the yongest age that you think is apropriate to see this movie? Hubby wants to take the kids...not sure if it's a good idea.

Thanks for the update about the "poop" penny. after careful consideration, i think I will pass on the penny ears for now. :rotfl:
That was too, too funny, but I am glad it made you think about me. It's nice to be back, I missed you guys. Penny

My kids are 8, 6, and 3. I would not take any of them to see the movie. It was really intense and scary through most of the first part. My kids have really vivid imaginations, and I could just picture what would happen after they saw it: I would have kids sleeping in my bed for the next 6 months. I was covering my eyes and plugging my ears through most of the island stuff.

You have to know your kids. We took the older 2 to see Narnia last weekend, and they both loved it! Of course, we had read the book as a family, so they knew the story and there were no surprises. With this, know what your kids can handle and what they can't. Good luck making the decision.

Hi Glynis - glad you had a nice evening. SO you have a theatre (we called that a cinema) with a restaurant in?? Cool - but don't you worry about eating too loudly??

Judging by your description of Kong I think I'll wait for the DVD! I'm not into 6ft creepy crawleys... see my trip report I can't even manage tough to be a bug :rotfl:
