Kate - would you recommend us going over Columbus day weekend? What days were you there and how bad were the parks? I am looking at either going in the afternoon on Wed. Oct. 18 and returning Sun. Oct. 22, with Nicholas missing 2.5 days of school.

But we could go over Columbus Day arriving early on Wed. the 4th and returning Mon. the 9th, still missing 2.5 days. CD is the 9th.

Based on your trip, what do you recommend?
tammi -

it wasn't horrible to go then - but that weekend was definately more crowded

it was our first day the Saturday of Columbus day and it was pretty crowded - b/c we had 10 more days and an AP - I wasn't stressed about it -
but we got there for EMH and got a lot done before noon then just enjoyed the rest of the day

I am not sure that the extra day would be worth it since the park would probably be more croweded -

but I think you would be happy either way

the other thing is that the free dining was offered this year in that time frame - so that greatly increased the crowds in the early part of the week

Tammi - I'm not Kate, but we have also been over CD weekend. I would definitely choose 18-22. The crowds start to build leading up to CD and then drop on the 9th and itself and get very quiet. At least that is what happened with us.
Thanks for sharing your info. I guess we will stick with the later dates. I just hope there aren't any hurricanes this year....

Just so you know, I am showered and dressed today, but we're not going anywhere, since the cold has returned to the 'Nati.

we are quite the international group here!!

I hope clare pops in soon

She PM'd me from work today. She told me she'll try to pop in after a while. She sounds really good. For those that haven't checked out her trip report in the UK trip report board, you should. It's wonderful. I hope she does some more soon.

It's beautiful here. Going to be around 50 and sunny through the beginning of the week. Makes me ready for spring.

okay - I need some pixie dust

my in-laws are taking the kids for the weekend -

Julia is on her antibiotics and should be fine

but I am worried about Nick - he sounded a little croupy this morning - but now that he has been up it sounds like his chest has cleared so it might have just been build up

now he is running around like nothing is wrong -

I know I am being selfish - but I hope he doesn't get sick so we can have our weekend!!

You ask for it, you'll get it, Your Majesty!

I would love that but remember we all speak English

No you all speak American :rolleyes1 Ok ok - you all speak English - so I'll start an British-English saying of the day...

Hmm only I can't think of anything right now! What about I'm knackered...?

julia & nicks mom said:
well there's an english phrase for you - strapline - I think that is what we call a tagline

dumby - actually I think clare was referring to an English saying - she is from england and we call them the English - so a saying that comes from her country would be an English saying

and we did all discuss one day that they speak english and we speak American English - which really are pretty distinctive

I know what Clare was talking about but someone thought it was quite funny a while back when I mentioned I liked Clares English so I was just being sarcastic in a nice way. :rotfl: I do love her English sayings. So keep them coming Clare. :)

There is your saying of the day, Clare. What is a strapline?

Hi Bev - a strapline is a sentence that describes us... no that's not quite right... it's like "Disney World - the happiest place on earth"
We'd be "DDAs - there's a great big beautiful tomorrow" you know it doesn't really work - I just liked the sentiment of the story - that we made something good out of a bad situation.

Our current strapline is DDAs - sprinkling pixie dust one design at a time... A slogan that's what a strapline is! Where's the lightbulb smilie gone??

Our weather's been pretty erratic...50's earlier this week, 30's today. I'm not thinking of spring yet though, because all us Cincy people know we have to survive blustery February.

Beth -

I just went over to check this out -

some idiot with 4 posts made up a lie about seeing the billboard unwrapped

and that it made this annoucment

but someone who lives there and is a regulaar poster - just confirmed that the billboard is still wrapped

stupid trolls!

Sorry this is OT, but I couldn't resist with Kate's comment about trolls. When DH and I had just purchased our first home, we had a flood about 3 days after closing. Our basement was almost totally destroyed. Well, we got things cleaned up and fixed and DH was ready to paint. He found some great stuff called KILZ that would kill any mold spores as well as be a paint. Or so we thought. DH masked the entire basement off in plastic, with all the windows sealed shut, then he went to work spraying that stuff all over the walls. After about 30 minutes I had a headache from smelling the stuff and I was upstairs. I went down to convince DH to take a break and get out of the fumes for a while. He had literally gone crazy. He was hallucinating and even started to attack me. I locked myself in the bedroom and called 911. They came and got DH in an ambulance and to the hospital. The fire chief came and assessed the situation, and then calmly walked over to our neighbor and told him to put out his cigarette as there was enough flammable fumes in the air to blow the entire neighborhood to Kingdom Come. What fun, huh? We'd only lived in the house 3 days and this was how we met most of our neighbors.

Later I talked to DH at the hospital and he told me that he was seeing trolls in the basement and they were out to get him. That's why he was attacking anything that moved, me included. It sounds funny now, but it was scary then. Now, I give him a troll in his Christmas stocking every year. Hee, hee.

Ok, back to your regularly scheduled hilarity.

:guilty: Ok I found the guilty smilie - I'm home alone this weekend as DH is working so I'll try and rack up a few more pages I promise...

I am knackered -- I am assuming this means you are at a loss for words. Now I am knackered because I was going to say what we would say in this situation but all I can think of is I am at a loss for the right word. :rotfl:

Edited to add: I see I was wrong about this one. I am sure it want be the last time I am wrong about something. :rotfl: :rotfl: It is so fun to learn these new sayings but my brain is getting knackered.

:rotfl2: I started a craze!!!

Maybe I should start doing "English saying of the day"...

You absolutely should! What fun that would be! Another way to drive DH crazy!
