Ok, I'm back.

Denise -

We bought 200pts at SSR. The price was $98.00 per pt, $19,600. With the 15% discount, that brought the price per point down to $83.30 or $16,660. Disney offers financing, with their interest rate of 9.75%. If we would have financed for 10yrs., our payment would have been 192, 7 yrs. 242.14, 5 yrs. 310.53, 3 yrs. 472.60. We opted to pay it with our equity loan, as the interest rate on that is 2 pts. better. For 2006, their maintenance fee is $3.3808 per pt, so for 200 pts. it is 796.16/yr or 66.35/mo. You can by it monthly by direct withdrawal from your checking account. If you want to know what payments would be for more/less pts., let me know. I have their whole pricing chart. Also, I need to check with our account to find out exactly how much, but a percentage of that maintenance fee is tax deductible.

My only concern about not getting a resort other than SSR is if they get tons and tons of more people joining SSR. But, when we took the tour, our guide told us they had plans in the works to build 4 more DVC resorts at WDW, over the course of the next several years.

I had questions like that too Denise, like why not buy somewhere cheaper HHI or VB, or buying a resale. I read alot over on the DVC board about pros/cons, and I think there seemed to be a lot of cons compared to the pros.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Kate - have you usually traveled at more "off peak" times, or have you found you could get what you wanted during some of the earlier times as well?

I like the BCV/BWV a heck of a lot better than SSR, but that 10 years is awfully tempting.

Also, would you be able to get the 15% off if you did a resale (through Disney) of BCV/BWV, or is it restricted to SSR?
I have only used my points in October and March - never peak season - so I really can not tell you for sure how that is -

Okay you guys, I need help -- and sorry this is so long. My mother fell and broke her ankle yesterday, and tore a ligament. Some health background -- she is 64 years old, and she has always had problem with her feet/ankles swelling. (She recently started taking two fluid pills so they haven't been as swollen lately). She has diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, arthritis, and other issues, and is overweight. She also had breast cancer around 8 years ago with double masectomy and complete reconstruction (using adbominal tissue). Anyway, she is supposed to go to the annual convention for crafts (she owns a scrapbook shop) in two weeks in Las Vegas.

My sister works for a group of orthopedic doctors, so that is who mom went to when she fell. The doctor's advise against airline travel for 4 - 6 weeks, because of swelling. She has to wear the cast for 4 weeks, then will be in a boot for 4 - 8 weeks after that. Mom thinks that we are just telling her that because no one can take off work to go with her to help her out, and because the doctor didn't tell her she couldn't travel yesterday. Of course, she didn't tell him she was supposed to travel in a couple of weeks. I told her to call the doctor tomorrow, but she is being stubborn (an understatement) and insists that my sister told him to tell her that.

Have any of you had broken bones or family/friends who did, or experience in the medical field? I tried googling for answers, but must not have put in the right search to get info on airline travel and casts. It just pulled up model airplanes! Any advice/help, even if it isn't the same as we have already received, would be helpful.
I just want to send pixie dust, prayers and hugs to your mom for a speedy recovery.
No advice or help sorry.

Denise - I thought of another con to HHI =

I always book my home resort for my stay at my 11 month window - so then I know I definately have somewhere to stay - then if i decided to change resorts I can but if nothing was available I would still be able to stay at my home resort -

this would not be the case if you were at HHI

Ok, fingers crossed. DH just said we could use his bonus and just pay for it in full...

Marci-

somehow I missed your post yesterday - I am but wanted to send you prayers and pixie dust

I got twenty pages to catch up on. Hope I can through them before I decide to get to bed.

I found out why I was nauseous, stomach ache, had to pee quite often and my back hurts. Before anyone gets hopeful I am not pregnant. I have a UTI. The only reason this was figured out was because I had a physical and drug test yesterday for my new job. They said I had bacteria in my drug test sample and told me I should go to my doctor. So I go today and that is the verdict.

I probably never would have went had I not had the physical yesterday. I could attribute all of those symptoms to other things. nauseous/stomach ache-had cramps and the stomach bug is going around lots of people have the stomach bug. I have been drinking lots more trying to drink my water hence the need to pee more often. As for the backache- Also one of my normal PMS symptoms and also I have helped move some furniture and started hurting after that. Shows what I know. :confused3

Want to share the bonus?! ;)

:rotfl: :rotfl:

Congrats! Looks like DVC once again owes some commissions to this board...

Sounds great Denise. I thought DH wasn't interested. He preferred concierge. Of course, if you wait on your family like I wait on mine, it's the same thing for them. :rotfl:

The 15% discount is restricted to SSR.

Of course, if you hop on a plane out to DL, when you buy, you get the 15% off and 2 annual passes at either WDW or DL. (This has been reported.)

I think you better perfect your mitten cookies before you start knitting mittens too! :rotfl: Have you made some practice cookies yet?

And, where's my PM about Lost?!! We have details to discuss! ::yes::

Hope you're feeling better today!
Amy :)
"LOST" I love Lost. :hyper2:

That's great news, Denise!! I am very jealous. Seems like I'm working for the wrong company when it comes to bonuses.

DH is still not 100%, but he said he'd rather pay for it up front than finance. For him to EVEN mention that means I'm headed in the right direction. I do think he is leaning towards Beach Club because of location and pool. Here's hoping! I really think it may happen. He had that "look" like, "crud, I don't want to spend any money (he never does- he works in Corporate finance for a Fortune 50 company doing their budget), but she's actually making sense..."

Keep your fingers crossed!

So based on my earlier post about a big family trip, I am contemplating shirts. The trip will be
Me, DD and maybe DH
Parents and DSis3
DSis1 and her DH, DD and DS
DSis2 and her DH

Would it be too much to have all of our shirts be the same color and design? I am contemplating having everyone have the same design and each "family unit" have the same color on a given day. Anyone have any thoughts? We probably won't be all together for more than a meal a day and a few major things like parades/shows, but I am hoping for a few good family photos.

Thanks!!

We wore the same color and the same designs the whole trip. If you don't mind doing a ton of iron ons..I say go for it!

We're in Clackamas- about 4 miles from the Clackamas Town Center- we're practically downright neighbors!
It's a small world after all, :rotfl: If you want to meet sometime or want me to ship them I have quite a few DL travel books. Unofficial Guide, Birnbaum's and several others, some include San Diego. I'd be happy to let you use them for your trip. Just let me know. I think I'll be sticking close to home for another week due to an impacted wisdom tooth being infected. Waiting for antibiotics to kick in so the swelling in my mouth goes down. Hopefully it works quickly, DH is lost without my nagging, er I mean advice. :rotfl2:

Yeah, I think your family and Denise's look great. I'm torn as to whether 12 of us would be too much blue or red or whatever the color is that day. Maybe I could do a light/dark thing too. Dk blue for the guys and light blue for the girls, etc. As for the ironing I am determined! :) This trip has been so long in the making that I am determined that 1) it WILL happen this time and 2) I am going all out in planning.

Hi Beth - here in the UK we can buy 14day hoppers and 21 day hoppers.

They give you:
Disney’s Ultimate Tickets give unlimited access to:
• Magic Kingdom Park
• Epcot
• Disney-MGM Studios
• Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park
• Disney’s Blizzard Beach
• Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon Water Parks**
• Downtown Disney Pleasure Island
• Disney’s Wide World of Sports Complex†
• DisneyQuest Indoor Interactive Theme Park††

SO you can go in and out of all the above all day everyday for 14 days - but they expire 14 days after first use - you cannot store "unused" days for another trip.

And the price? About £171 for adults and £146 for children aged 3 to 9. That's about $299 and $252 respectively (at an exchange rate of $1.70 to the £)

I'm not sure if you can order them from the states - here's the site I ordered from last year http://www.themepark-tickets.com/florida/index.asp#parks-1

Now I'm not sure if they post to the states - but you could always send them to me and I could send them on if it worked out cheaper for you.

ETA - I hadn't actually finished writing my post and it posted it for me!

Thanks for that information, Clare! I'll definitely save this to do comparisons with. And thanks for the offer to post them to me if necessary! :) :goodvibes

Beth
