The DDA Trouble Free Zone Part 9

I'm having a frustrating evening. My dd called me just before 6 and told me to watch the 6 PM news. There was another accident at Bike Week in Laconia, NH. Chris and I are planning to ride our motorcycles there on Saturday. My parents are now dead set against it and are "forbidding" me from riding my motorcycle there. I am 36 years old and never do anything the least bit dangerous. I can't believe the way that they are acting. Now they are making me feel like a bad parent if I go (you have children you should think about, if you have to go take your car) and if I don't go I will feel like I am letting my parents control my life. There have been 5 motorcycle deaths since bike week began and according to the news reports all 5 deaths we caused by careless motorcyclists crossing the center line and colliding with a car. Chris and I are both very cautious drivers and aren't concerned that we might crash. We are only going for the day. I have been in tears over this. Chris says the we don't have to go if I don't want too, but I do want to go. We would be joining one of the guys that he works with and his girlfriend and it sounds like a lot of fun. Are they over reacting, should I stay home and "safe"? WWYD?

Deb - I really don't know what to tell you since having nothing between me and the pavement is something that does not appeal to me.

My advice would be to do what you are comfortable doing. Only you can make the decision. I think your mom's point is that with that many people around - it is no longer about you and Chris and how you ride but also about how others ride. And that is something you should take into consideration. What if one of those idiots swerves into a car in front of you and the car swerves to miss them and comes into your lane?

If your mom is normally okay with you riding - I would imagine this is her concern.

I don't think if you go that you are being a bad parent and I don't think if you stay home you are letting your mom control your life - it just means that you are willing to listen to other points of view.

You should make the decision based on what you want to do -

although if your parents are supposed to watch your kids for you - I would not be shocked if your mom tells you to find someone else to watch them!! ;)

I'm so excited. Pal Mickey is on his way home. He has so many clothes to try on! I have to get some boxes out in the mail today for the travelin' pals. I got the Tigger outfit from the eBay auction. Woohoo!!!!

I also have to get the build-a-bears together for my new nieces & nephews. Becky isn't here to help me so I'll have to get them all together and see if she wants to make any changes before they leave. They are taking an extra suitcase with them with the bears. That way, they'll have an empty suitcase to bring any souvenirs that they pick up from their trip in Japan.

I can't wait to see pictures of PM in Japan!!!

Denise- I don't see why not. :thumbsup2 Just in case (for you and anyone else that might want to know!) here's the AAA benefits for Disney Cruise:
Onboard Stateroom Credit based on the following:
3-4 night cruise category 10-12 or 7 night Land and Sea at $25 per stateroom credit
3-4 night cruise category 1-9 or 7 night Land and Sea at $50 per stateroom credit
7 night cruise category 10-12 at $75 per stateroom credit
7 night cruise category 1-9 at $150 per stateroom credit

10% off bike, float and snorkel rentals at Castaway Cay; 10% off merchandise at Treasure Ketch.

During Disney Month, normally the stateroom credit is doubled.

Robyn - I don't see rates coming out anytime soon for next year (everyone is hoping July). If you would like me to wait until the final payment date or refund now, let me know.

Here's my adorable almost-nephew!!

Not sure if you are aware but that guy's post disappeared. I think a moderator must have taken it off. I read it and when I post and went back it was gone.
The mods just pmed me and did a mass delete of the threads referring to it -

if any of you got a message that you had something deleted for being rude and off topic - he just did a mass delete and put all of the posts in the same category! Thank you all for supporting me!!!

All of our responses have disappeared, too, along with Kate's picture.

I deleted my picture myself - I didn't realize that posting it was opening myself up to that sort of attack!!!!

Denise- I am so glad that the surgery seems to have been the solution to all of the problems.

Kate- I didn't get what you were referring to about the fanny packs, I kept scrolling through that thread and at first thought I was going crazy and then I decided it had to have been removed. I am honestly suprised that thread wasn't locked before and am suprised it is still open.

That sound thing is so annoying, I am extremely sensitive to high pitches and I still feel like I am hearing it, I didn't listen to it on the internet but it was on the news here, right after I saw your message. If I were to hear it somewhere, I would have to find where it is from to make it stop. I should have known better, when they said they were going to play it on the news, but I didn't do anything to prevent listening to it.

Deb- I am not going to give you advice on what you should do. You have to make the decision for yourself. You only live once.

Sending :wizard: and :grouphug: to everyone in need of it.

Wanted to give you all the "official" surgery update.

The surgeon called late Friday night with the pathology report. It came back showing "Chronic Cholecystitis" Cholecystitis is an inflammation of the gallbladder wall and nearby abdominal lining. Cholecystitis is usually caused by a gallstone in the cystic duct, the duct that connects the gallbladder to the hepatic duct. Other causes of cholecystitis may include gallbladder sludge which is what the surgeon saw on the abdominal ultrasound. Chronic just means it had been going on for a significant period of time.

Here is a link telling all about it. http://www.healthsystem.virginia.edu/uvahealth/adult_liver/chole.cfm

Rees has done so well this week. He never needed any pain meds and has been eating around the clock. He has a voracious appetite again. He is feeling very good and went swimming today and rode his new bike (for his 6th birthday on June 23rd) for about 30 minutes. You can barely even see 2 of the 4 incisions they have healed so nicely. He's a completely new child. We agree with the surgeon that this appears to have been the source of all his pain and GI problems. We are just so grateful that Dr. Wulkan figured out what was wrong.

John and I want to express our deep gratitude to you all for keeping Rees and our family in your prayers over the past 2 months. Your concern, emails, calls, and cards mean more to us than you can know.

Denise this is just the best news.  If I go to bed now, and don't read another note until tomorrow, I will sleep with a smile on my face....

Hi everyone!
I posted awhile ago that i was planning on making a frame with Alyssa's pictures for my brother's birthday...I ended up finishing it last night...i ended up making myself one as well..I took pictures but im not sure how they will come out --The one with the blue background is my brothers (matches his room) and the purple one matches my room.

The quotes on the frame are from a Maroon 5 song that the band dedicated to her.

Jen -- what a beautiful tribute! The pages are wonderful.

Deb-

I am not sure what I would do in your situation as I don't drive. :teeth:

But I think our #1 duty as parents is to look out for our kids whether they are 3 or 36. We worry no matter their age.

I would say go for it because it's one day, but there have been 5 deaths. I am no help am I!! :confused3

Go, but be prepared to find different babysitters and have your parents miffed at you for awhile!!

Here is a Disneyland Paris website. I know Janet was looking for information, I think someone else might have been as well but I can't recall who.

Even if you aren't going to Disneyland Paris anytime soon, it has some awesome photos and videos of the stuff there.

Denise -- glad that everything has worked out for Rees!

Kate -- just got home from Andrew's indoor soccer game. Had I been around, I would have helped out. Add me to the "I've got my DDA friends' backs!"

Deb -- my grandmother always said that she trusted my dad's driving, it was everyone else's she was worried about. Mom's can't help but worry about their children, but I see your point, as well. I hope you are able to come to a decision that will be satisfying to YOU.

Wow, I'm finally caught. :Pinkbounc

Kate Hope the festival was a success. :wizard: I pray that your knee will continue to hold up until your surgery. As for the mean post I didn't see it as it was already deleted but I would definitely ignore it. He obviously doesn't know you as your such an amazing talented wonderful mother. :goodvibes
Tia :thumbsup2 Sounds like a fun trip. I've always wanted to see NYC. How is Phil feeling?
Chanon  Welcome back looks like a nice time. Your nephew is as cute as a button. :cloud9:
Julie Nice to see you back. :wave2: Sounds like a busy but fun time. :cheer2: Kudos on the weight loss. and :cheer2: Congrats to Kyle that's great. He must have worked so hard. :wizard: Hope your yard gets fixed from the pool soon, my uncle had problems when he had a pool put in.
Denise glad to hear the report is finally back. I'm thrilled that Rees is making such a good recovery and doing so well. :goodvibes How is the medicaid situation going?

Amy Wow you could probably make a whole carousel scrapbook with all the pics you'll have by the end of summer. Alyssa looks darling in her swimsuit. :cutie:
and Matthew will come whether you're ready or not. I know with Blake(my 1st) we were told by the dr. we had another couple weeks which was a releif to me. We had our nursery furniture and bedding all on order. My DH decided when I asked him to paint the nursery to demolish the room and redo everything instead :scared1: so the closet was gone waiting for a new one to be built all the paneling on 1 wall ripped off the wall needing major fixing to be painted and the wood work waiting to be installed after the stain dried. Wouldn't you know the very next day after the dr. appt. I went into labor. :sad2: It all worked out, the cradle arrived while I was in the hospital and we borrowed baby sheets fro MIL. The baby slept in our room for a month waiting for the nursery to be finished but when DH got it done it was beautiful. Everything always seems to fall into place so don't worry. :goodvibes Hope you finish moving soon and are able to get an offer on your old house.

Morning y'all

Denise - that's GREAT news about Rees :cheer2: :cheer2:

Jen - those frames of Alyssa are beautiful - your brother will love his gift I'm sure :goodvibes

Kate - Seems I missed all the excitement on the fanny pack thread last night - I am glad the DDA were around to back you up - and that the mods came to their senses and removed the posts - I was reading that thread this morning and it seems to have returned to being ON topic now

I don't have real player on my pc so can't listen to the ring tone...

Hmm hope I didn't miss anyone...

Off to get ready for work now... the good news here is that our boiler miraculously fixed itself on Sunday night! :confused3 I tested it yesterday morning and it just fired up! Hooray no call out to the expensive boiler man...

Then yesterday my car windscreen cracked... so I need a new one... got hit by a stone a couple of days back and the heat has expanded the glass and made a nice big crack in the screen... there's £50 towards my trip down the drain...

Have a nice day everyone - hope it's :sunny: for you :goodvibes
