Elin, I'm looking forward to the train trip, too. I didn't think the fare was so bad ($265.20 for TWO). Is that high? I used senior (I'm 62) and code H570 which I found on the internet. It came out a lot higher on their site, but I called Amtrak, gave them the info and the code, and that's what came up. Good luck with a fare sale or a code. (To find codes, I googled Amtrak discount codes 2006).

June - it appears that the codes that are out there will work out of DC but not out of Fredericksburg. So I can get lots of discounts if we drive to DC and stay overnight in a hotel (add another $100 or so for hotel and parking for the weekend) but if we try to leave from our own train station, the prices go through the roof. Over $550 for the three of us. :bitelip:

I could actually rent a car, buy gas and pay tolls along the way and parking in NYC for that, I think!

Did you try calling Amtrak? That's what I did. I called and gave them the code and it came up at the price I paid, whereas on the website it did not.

No, but I could. The $550 was with our AAA discount and the code I used would take another 75% off one of the three tickets. It would make a considerable dent in the cost, so I will give them a call. Thanks!

When I was pricing, the AAA discount with the code made the price HIGHER than with no discount at all! I don't understand it, but that's the way it came up.

My mother just bought a pair of the balck ones, and she says they are worth the money.

Tammy, just wondering how things are going with you and your family? You have been on my mind a lot lately. You sound so cheerful on the board but just wondered how you are really doing. Your family is still in my prayers.

The thing about expensive is it also usually means "well made" so they last forever. Chuck is still wearing the same two pair of dress shoes (one brown, one black) that he had when we met 25 years ago. He's had them resoled a couple of times over the years but they look fantastic. They have probably cost him a couple of cents for each time he wore them. I'm going to have to look into these SAS shoes. I may ask Mom what kind she wears as well because she has trouble with her feet and these would be great for her.

Vicki,

That is the thing. I have had the blue pair since about 1996 when I got them after I had a bunion taken care of. I really cannot remember what I paid for them but I wore them and my Easy Spirit sneakers. I have only started to wear them a lot again and then I bought the black ones last year about 6 weeks before Stephanie and I went to WDW. I know that Stephanie loves hers as well.

IF MY BODY WERE A CAR

If my body were a car, this is the time I would be thinking about trading it in for a newer model.

I've got bumps and dents and scratches in my finish and my paint job is getting a little dull, but that's not the worst of it.

My headlights are out of focus and it's especially hard to see things up close.

My traction is not as graceful as it once was.

I slip and slide and skid and bump into things even in the best of weather.

My whitewalls are stained with varicose veins.

It takes me hours to reach my maximum speed.

My fuel rate burns inefficiently.

But here's the worst of it --

Almost every time I sneeze, cough or sputter.....either my radiator leaks or my exhaust backfires!

OMG that is too funny and so very true. Thank goodness for protection

Sounds like a plan to me.

Hi Tammi! How's everything going? I think taking the kids to NYC is a great idea! I heard that they're thinking of reopening the Statue of Liberty so you can walk up into the crown. I did that when I was 18. I sure wouldn't want to try it now! The stairs are very narrow and wind around and around a central pole to get up there. I took my grandchildren last year and you could only look up into the statue through a glass ceiling, and you needed advance reservations to do that! (Better check out the site before you go to make sure you don't still have to do that). They had more security to get to the elevators to go to the top of the base than they do at airports. The times we live in!
I remember walking up to the crown back in the early nineties. I remember thinking the walk wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be. I wonder if I would still think that today???? :rotfl:

Thanks Delinda. Still the same. I asked him the other night if this is still what he wanted and he said yes. I am so furious with him. My emotions are up and down. So far the kids are doing okay but they don't know much.

We're back from our afternoon of fun. The water at the pool was freezing this morning but now that it is 92 degrees I bet it would feel pretty good. The childrens theater was a lot of fun. The Mad Hatter was hysterical. The little girl (11yo) who played Alice was amazing. I was talking to one of the production assistants afterwards to get info on where she takes all of her lessons. He told me she has been auditioning in NY and San Fran too. I'm sure she has an acting career ahead of her.

After that we went to run a few errands and stopped to by a father's day gift :furious:. I let the kids pick out 2 shirts, whichever they wanted, as long as they were on a good sale. I didn't even care if they were ugly this time. :rotfl2:

No time to read, but we're at the beach and John was able to find a wireless network! The house is amazing. Must have cost at least 1.5 million. Sure is nice for a week. We're off to dinner and then to go see the beach. Have a great week!

Hi Denise,

Good to hear from you and that the house is amazing. Will keep good thoughts while you are at the :sunny: :sunny: :beach:

Tammi - I am glad that you still let them get a father's day gift!!! Now you know that having them get gifts for him will give you a little bit of sweet satisfaction!!!!

Since everyone's talking about Kingdom Keepers, I just went online and reserved it at my library. Mine is the first hold on three copies, and two are checked in, so it should arrive at my home library early next week.

I also put a reserve on the new Stephanie Plum - Twelve Sharp. That one has 329 holds already! I'll probably end up buying it way before I can get it from the library. It would be a good one to take on our 4th of July camping trip.

I also just put in an on-line request from the library for Kingdom Keepers.

Good Morning DDA,

I thought I would take some time this morning to post the pictures from my DD reception. Because we got such a late start on planning the only hall we could get was a small one the isn't in the best shape. The windows are really ugly so we decided to turn them into blackboards, when trying to decide on a theme for teaching the thing that kept popping into my head was apples, so apples it was! I've thrown i a picture of my Bad Boy being himself, this is a before picture, before his mom shaved his head and gave him a buzz cut and before he broke his front tooth. He went to the dentist yesterday and they pulled part of the tooth, it was barely hanging in the gums, they said it was almost exposed and started him on antibiotics. He has an appointment with the pediatric dentist on Monday.

Here's the pics:

And here's the design I came up with as a joke for my youngest DD's BF, the
shirt has Minnie and Mickey skipping with Zip-a-dee-do-da on the back. She
says she's going to make him wear it, :rotfl:

My DH thinks I'm nuts but I'n going to start packing today, we leave next weekend and I only have one more day off before then so I like to pack a little at a time as I do laundry and pick up all the extras we need

:grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug: For all those who need it.

Hope everyone has a great day,

Debbie

Great pictures, Debbie. Thanks for sharing!

Well our stay at the shore was very relaxing.
Everyone arrived on Friday.
We went out on the beach for Saturday and Sunday.
It rained Monday until about 3pm and then all day Thursday.
The kids managed to go shopping or to a movie with the grandboys while the weather was bad.
I had remembered to put lots of sunscreen on and then kept covered when I felt I was getting too much, but on Wednesday, I could feel my toes itching so I had to go inside. I have not had sun poisioning since 1986 so I was disappointed not to be able to be with the boys on the beach. :guilty:

Our condo was the unit on the end and about 50 yards from the water. It had a lot of stairs. By the end of each day, my calves were really tight from walking on the sand and then up the stairs. One night my DH was really snoring so I went up the spiral staircase to the fourth floor to sleep on the most comfortable bed. A bunk bed :rotfl: When I first sat on the bed I was going to use, all I could think of was when Stephanie and I and my sister went to Cape May and the beds were so hard, we wondered if Fred and Wilma Flinstone had lived there :lmao:
No amount of drugs could stop the ache.

I sent an e-mail to my DS to ask him to send me some pictures. I will try to post them later.
