It's official!! I am going to be in the DC area for the meet!!
Only downside is the cheapest flights were for my birthday so I have to fly on my birthday.

We won a family pass to see Cars tonight so I will make sure to give a review. That's if we get to see it (it's a first come, first on list, first seated deal).

And the list keeps growing! So happy that you will be here!

Thank you all for all the kind words last night and for letting me know that I did the right thing. As hard as it was for me to just keep walking, something inside me said that if I said anything or was even seen watching, this poor kid was going to get much worse at home for "embarrassing" his dad. The man was definitely not thinking logically or rationally enough to know that it wasn't the kids' fault. I will do a little follow up today with CPS and the Scouts. I am so thankful that I let Laura walk Miles home a different way and that they didn't witness that. I'm also thankful that my sweet ds15 and dh were both very concerned about me when I came in the house sobbing.

I am certainly not a "perfect" mother. I have yelled before, and I've even said things to my kids that I am not proud of, but this was just so unbelievable.

Me, too! I'm a dufus! I'd much rather have the family that I have, the friends that I have, and the brains that I have (though those seem to be starting to go), than designer clothes and accessories.

This will make Paula post!!!!!!!!!!! Paula sent my kids a HUGE, GIGANTIC, ENORMOUS SSP filled with so much it blows my mind. John and I decided to divvy it out a little at a time, and they'll get most of it for their b'day this month from Miss Paula.

But, we gave them one thing this week when Rees went to the hospital. THEY LOVE THEM!!!!!!!!! Look how adorable the pillowcases are. I can't thank Paula enough for her generosity and thoughtfulness. What an awesome woman!

And, no, I did not use a stapler to attach the pillows to the kids...

I thank you all for the pixie dust. Becky passed her drivers license and is now a licensed State of Michigan driver. Of course, it wasn't as smooth sailing as it could have been. I asked her the other day about her Level 1 Learner's Permit and her Level 2 Certificate of Completion. She tells me both are in her purse. Now mind you, if Becky has to hang onto something important, she is very responsible and can be trusted to have it.

So, 2 hours before her test, we are going to leave and do some more practicing in a parking lot in town. Before we leave the house, I ask to see the documents. Guess what! She doesn't have her learners permit - she has her level 1 certificate of completion. Heaven forbid! We end up at the Secretary of State to get proof that she has had her learners permit for more than 6 months. Of course, we are talking the secretary of state shortly after the lunch hour. The wait is 45 minutes to an hour. So much for practice time. She gets herself all worked up and screws up the parking test and ends up crying. She passed it but just barely according to the tester. She then did her road test and passed. Thank goodness that is all over. I'm going upstairs to have a drink!!!!!

You know, that anti-fanny pack "lady" is really getting to me. No self-esteem???? I'd like to tell her that when my husband died way before his time he left very little life insurance, and we had a lot of bills, including a mortgage that I couldn't pay on my own. I had to go bankrupt and start from scratch. I now own my own home - it's a mobile home, so I suppose she'd call me "trailer trash." However, it's got three bedrooms, two full baths, was brand new when I bought it 3-1/2 years go, and it is PAID FOR. I didn't work until my son was 16. I started out as a temp and worked my way up to legal secretary. I took the civil service test and came out number 1 in my county. I ended up as secretary to two different New York State Supreme Court Justices until their respective retirements. I am now a legal assistant in the commercial litigation department of one of the oldest and largest and most respected law firms in the Hudson Valley. I have two wonderful children and three grandchildren. I pay my bills, travel and enjoy my life. Do you think I lack self-esteem because I wear a fanny pack at Disney World? I have never heard anything so absurd. I think perhaps it's the other way around - SHE lacks self esteem and needs material things to make her feel good about herself. I really felt like posting all of this on that thread, but I think it's better to let that one die away. Thanks for letting me vent here.

I am reading but not taking notes so here is a big CONGRATS!! IXIE DUST: HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND!! and for all of you!!

Thank you all for the wishes for tomorrow! My knee is currently KILLING me so I am so ready for surgery!! I am worried about how it will hold out at the festival this weekend!

I can't get the song "Strang things are happening to me" out of my head - why?!? Because this week I have watched the exact scene from toy story playing out in my house - remember how Buzz slowly replaced all the woody stuff in Andy's room - it is very ironic that Cars is slowly replacing Buzz!! It hit me like a ton of bricks tonight when I replaced his Buzz sheets with Cars sheets! When I brought them home Steve's exact comment to me was - "this is just like what happened to woody!!!"

Something disturbing happened tonight, and I'm not really sure what I should have done. I just know that I didn't do the right thing.

I was walking home from a very lovely Art Show/Ice Cream Social at the elementary school. Thank goodness my kids weren't with me. This man that I know only a little (though he has become the Scout Master for our Cub Scout pack and is an assistant leader in Miles' den), started screaming horrible things to his older (perhaps 4th grade) son. Something happened between him and the younger son (1st grade), and the 1st grader was bleeding on his face. I didn't see what happened, but I got the sense that it was accidental, not malicious. I just couldn't believe the words that this man was screaming at his son. The mother was doing nothing. I am very embarrassed to say that I also did nothing, though I came home sobbing (and I'm getting teary as I write this). Dh said that I was right to stay out of it, but I just can't help feeling for that little boy. I can't believe this is a one time thing. You don't flip out in public like that. He was truly awful. I can't even write the things he was saying, absolute obscenities and things that must have made that child feel like an absolute nothing. Even if the older one did something on purpose, the man's behavior was totally uncalled for.

Miles will no longer be allowed to be anywhere near that man, but what should I have done for the son? The boys don't know me at all, nor does the mother. I feel like I let a helpless child down completely. And I'm in tears again...

Beth, I think you did the right thing. I know all to well what havoc it can wreak on the family of that man. We had a neighbor that would take things out on her daughter when she got called on things by other neighbors. It was very hard to know what was going on and not being able to do a whole lot other than to let someone know. I would call CPS and the Scouts.

I went to see my regular Dr today because I was getting easily fatigued and my heart was racing. she thinks it is an allergic reaction to the Antibotic they put me on at the Hospital Penicillin VK 500mg. she told me to stop taking it. Last time I had it was 10am this morn. I can already tell a difference in my heart rate.
My cough is less productive and it is clear now. my nose is less runny and is also clear now.
