I really like my name now, but as a child I hated the first day of school. I always dreaded hearing how the teacher would pronounce my name. Some would get it right, and others would just slaughter it. Made me cringe. Anyway, when I got into college I started going by my middle name, then I met DH and we started dating. Then I went back to Glynis. Alan and Ellyn just sounded to cutesy for us.

I gave my girls long multiple personality names for a few reasons.

1. I could call them what I wanted

2. They could have their friends call them what they wanted.

3. Paula and Mark don’t have nicknames to them

4. Paying for therapy later was a given.

I love to watch my mailbox, but it doesn't really do any fun tricks. Lately it has only been able to bring the not so fun bills. What’s up with that?

So what pray tell my dear did you and the girls make?

Oh and I am so very sorry for the late…………. (I won’t make these as long for you as I did for the 18th DDA’ers)…………………………………………………………..(that’s long enough)

Happy Birthday Abi and Cassidy!

If you can have a SSP so can we!! :teeth: I am actually going to keep a secret, or try at least!! :lmao:

Hey Paula

I am thinking the whole stapling issue will trump any name issues they might have in therapy!! :teeth:

It's once again way past my bedtime, so I am going to say

goodnight

and I can't wait to show the girls all their birthday wishes!! Thanks all!!

Good morning, my early DDA friends!!

Hope everyone had a good Mother's Day. I broke my Mother's Day gift Davis made me on the way out of school Friday. They had painted flower pots (Ed Emberly finger art). He and I both stood in the parking lot of school crying. So, his teacher gave me the paint and today Davis and I painted a new flower pot together. Then they all painted a water dish for it to sit in. It was fun. Went out Friday night (they had a parent's night out at Karate) and John and I saw MI3. I was surprised how good it was. And I can't stand Tom Cruise now, but, DANG, did he look FINE!!!!!!!!! And he rode a motorcycle like in Top Gun (flash back to 1986).

Tomorrow is the kid's graduation from pre-school and then we have Rees' IEP meeting at the Elem School (very formal legal proceeding) at 2:30pm. So wish me luck. It'll be a big day for us.

Talk to y'all soon.

:wizard: for a great meeting!

Thanks for sharing those stories! I love hearing about how people choose the names for their kids. It's such a special thing.

I have to tell you this so you can all understand how interesting Mark is. If we had a boy we wanted to name him Broderick Michael *&%(^$(%$ and we would have called him Brodi for his nickname. Broderick is very similar to Mark’s stepfather last name and Michael is his first.

Since it's the girls birthday I wanna share the origins of their names!! :teeth:

We literally played the alphabet game for Cassidy Cheyenne. We liked Cassidy and so went through the alphabet game 4 times before we both liked a name. Cassidy told us today she would choose her name for herself.

Now for Abi:

Cassidy told us that I had a baby in my tummy. I told her no I do not, I am just feeling icky. We get confirmation (original estimated due date was early April) and we didn't have to tell her she said "I have baby sister for my birthday." "No, sweetie the baby will be here for your birthday." No convincing her. At the ultrasound we figured out the baby was due in May. No convincing Cassidy that she could have a baby brother. Sister for her birthday!!! So we told her she got to pick the baby's first name. Abigail's middle name is KateLynn, Kate is what my mom wanted to be called as a kid(Kathleen) and Lynn is Jim's mom's middle name. We went through the baby name book and Cassidy would not listen to any names past Abigail  . We had a friend from South America at the time who was an Abi.

That is actually the short story of Abi's name :lmao: sorry!!

What other interesting things has Cassidy told you?
My goddaughter told her mother once that she needed to call uncle Mark (my DH) because he was very sad. She wouldn't let it go untill they called him.
It was the same day the DH and I got into it over the phone while he was on a trip. I found this very very interesting.

:welcome: Chuck!

Happy Birthday Abi and Cassidy!

Pal M ickey is having fun. YAY :yay: :yay: :yay:

Bed time for me....

Oh... my kids bought me a purse(handbag) very cute with Disney cards. I'm loving it...

Happy Mother's Day!!!

Did you hear that?

No?

Oh, you are all in your homes reading this, so you couldn’t have heard my pillow calling me name.

Yes, it was my pillow saying it is time that I spend a few hours with it.

Read you all tomorrow.

Let me know what you think about the 101 book. I was thinking about getting that next. I have the Imagineering guide and love it. Sounds like he did a great job for mother's day.

oo yeah I'd like to know if it's any good too. I have the imagineering to MK and my new unofficial guide sitting on the bookcase... as soon as I hand these assignments in I'm cracking them open, signing up with TGM and planning this trip :woohoo: I'm so impressed with my willpower that I haven't opened them yet :cheer2:

Chuck is so funny!!!!! All of a sudden as he is using his laptop, he says "I've been betrayed! What? Does word pass around the world in 30 seconds? I feel so dirty. Is a lurker like a peeping tom? Do I need to get my trench coat on?"

I told him we needed to get him an id so he could post that. He said that I could do it for him. I told him that I wanted him to know that he is welcome here and that I have no secrets from him. I'm so happy that he is here!!!! He did tell me he figures it is the only way to have a conversation with me. :lmao:

Thanks Theresa for welcoming him!!!!!

:wave2: Hi Chuck - come on jump in the water's good

Here's the weekend camping trip report.

People were already talking about next year. I really think that all families had fun and there were no conflicts which makes it a huge success.

Deb

:sunny: Deb it sounds like you had a fun packed weekend- I'm glad the rain held off for you even if it was for a little while

I know how much planning all the DDAers do for any event that we attend so you will all appreciate this true story. One of the families that went with us had 3 kids. They were tenting and didn't bring their dining canopy with them this year. They only had their tent or their car to get out of the rain. They only brought the outfits that they wore on friday and one other outfit per person. Remember that their was a 60% chance of rain on Friday (it was raining when we left here) and a 100% chance of rain for Saturday. Needless to say they were at the laundry drying clothes after breakfast on Saturday as they got soaked Friday night and making breakfast on Saturday morning. We had one of the kids stay in our camper on Saturday night and I loaned him some of Hunter's dry clothes to wear today as he had nothing dry except his pjs. There were also some families with no rain coats. I was handing out dollar store ponchos as I felt bad for them.

Deb

They went camping with kids and only had two outfits each for three days??? what were they thinking??? Even if the sun had been blazing they were bound to get dirty and need fresh clothes... :confused3

Sounds, like a complete success. Also I take it, everyone brought their own food?

Here's the weekend camping trip report.

We left here at 3 PM, as soon as the boys got off the school bus. We hit rain off and on all the way to the campground. It stopped raining for a long enough time when we arrived and we were able to stay relatively dry while setting up. We got a brief shower around 5 PM, but it cleared up pretty nicely and we were able to have our group campfire. Since at 8 PM some families were still arriving we didn't finish all the skits and songs until around 9:30 PM. Most of the family hurried off to bed at that time. I was not at all tired so my family and a couple of other families sat by the campfire until almost midnight. It was very relaxing the skits were so much fun. It really was a great time. We had rain during the night and apparently it poured while many of the tenters were preparing breakfast. We came out of our camper around 9 AM and it wasn't raining. The mini golf tournament was at 9:30 AM. We had 9 teams made up of the Scouts along with various family members. The groups were mixed up pretty well although somehow my Mom and Chris ended up on Nick's team with one of the other siblings. They won the tournament. It was fun and we got to spend time with people that we probably wouldn't have. We went back to camp and made our lunches. At 1 PM the scouts went on and orienteering treasure hunt. They had to use maps, compasses and follow directions to find the treasure. It was pouring, but they still had fun (I got a 20 minute nap in with Colby :teeth: ) We had our fishing challenge at 2 PM. It was raining so hard that the fish really weren't biting. Only 3 boys caught one fish a peice. I had 5 prizes and only 3 winners :confused3 Since it was really raining I talked to the campground owner and arranged to use the rec center for the group dinner. We cooked under the porch roof and ate inside. It was nice and most importantly dry. Since I had 2 extra prizes I raced around the campground and came up with clues to a scavenger hunt. We sent the scouts out after dinner and of course 3 boys (actually 3 dads) all came running back at the same time. The had to split the prizes between the 3 boys. We handed out all the prizes and went back to our sites. The rain finally slowed down so we had another campfire with some light rain periodically. Everyone had turned in by 10 PM. We woke up this morning to no rain although everything was still very wet. We packed up and our family played another game of mini golf before heading home. We got home around 1:30 and I had to be to work at 4 PM. Very busy weekend, but lots of fun. People were already talking about next year. I really think that all families had fun and there were no conflicts which makes it a huge success.

Deb

Thank you, thank you. :)

I see! That makes a lot of sense. Ok, one pair of Mickey ears coming your way. When we get back I'll get your address and get them mailed off to you! I'm so happy that I can do this for you! :cheer2:

Kate, good idea on having everyone remove who made the signatures. I was wondering how many other DIS'ers were asking for them too.
I am sure you already thought of this, but make sure to tell the others you are making them for, not to advertise who made it.

julia & nicks mom said:
Hey I have a request for everyone -

I LOVE that I could make you all personal signatures and it is very sweet that you put that I made them in your signatures - unfortunately - that appears to be advertising for me and the signature requests are getting a little out of hand!

The signatures really take too long for me to be making them for anyone who wants one - plus it is something special I can do for you all!!

SO - if all wouldn't mind, could you please not say in your signatures who made them? THANK YOU SO MUCH!!

I still cry and my kids are 34, 31, 27. My oldest son was saying boodbye to me tonight and he said thank you. I said your welcome and he held me and looked directly in my face and said again "Thank You for all you do"
Of course I cried and am crying now as I write this.

Made me cry too, Terry. How wonderful that he took the time to tell you how much he cares and notices what you do. Bravo for him!
