Colby had another guardian angel on duty today. We have a slide in our back yard that comes out of the top of their "tree House". It is about 15 feet tall. Colby was going down it today and about 1/2 way down fell off the side. I was in the house and heard him scream/cry. I'm guessing that he fell about 6 feet and according to him he landed on his head. Judging by the dirt on his shoulder I think that may have taken the brunt of the fall. He complained of his head hurting for at least 1/2 an hour and he wanted me to lay down and go to sleep with him. I kept him awake and his pupils were equal and reactive, he was able to move everything and visually seemed ok. I got the impression that he was more scared than anything. He wants us to take the slide down now, and it might be a good idea until he is older and able to better control himself. As a treat I had planned to take him to work with me this afternnoon for about 45 minutes until Chris got out of work and could pick him up as he can't go to my parents house with the Whopping Cough. I was glad to have him with me as I could keep an eye on him. He absolutely loved working with me and kept calling himself my helper. He did not want to leave and the customers really enjoyed having him seat them. He also said that he was all better before he left. Chris said that he acted completely normal tonight. I plan to wake him before I go to sleep just to make sure that he can be awakened easily and give me a little peace of mind. So there is my unfortunate story for today, but I'm thankful that all seems to be ok.

How scary. I'm glad he is okay. That worked out great though, because yesterday was Take Your Child to Work Day, and Colby got to participate!!

Elin I got all teary eyed reading your post. Thank you all for your concern and well wishes. He did fine during the night and says that nothing at all hurts this morning. It must be nice to be 3 again. I did push ups Wednesday night and my chest is really sore today, he falls 6 feet onto his head and nothing hurts Thanks again everyone for caring.

Our local payless thought they "might" have some kids/toddler croc knock offs this morning so I'm going to call at 9:30 to find out. Is anyone still in need of the airwalks? I know that yesterday they had hot pink, turquoise and black in the Adult sizes. I'd be happy to check for anyone, just let me know.

AMAZING - I cry every time I see it - this was #4 - it is so interesting how your prespective changes over the years!! (okay I am really tired is perspective even a word - it just seems wonky to me!!)

Nick is sleeping - my mom said he perked up for a little bit when she made popcorn and played shark boy for a little bit but then laid back down - I think he was up for about 1/2 hour today

he is still hot and when I went into kiss him he said to me - "me still sick" poor little guy!!

Well, perspective is a word -- prespective is not!

I'm glad you were able to enjoy it, and I hope Nick feels better soon!

Since you all were chatty last night telling stories, I thought I would share one. As y'all know I have been on my diet and have been walking with the dog every morning. I have a 30 minute window I try to keep within and as we have gotten healthier and faster, our walks have taken us further afield from our house, but still in our general neighborhood/subdivision.

I have two students, aged 4 and 6, who live a little less than a mile from my house, but on the same street/cul-de-sac, and they have been seeing me walk some mornings when their Mom or Dad takes them to school.

Yesterday, in class, I told them that I was almost to their house on my walks. I told them that they ought to look for me today because if they told me which house was theirs I would wave at them as I went by this morning. They looked at their Mom and she started to laugh. She informed me that I would have no trouble finding their house because for the past 2 weeks, every night before they go to bed, the girls have been using sidewalk chalk to write
HI MRS. H on their driveway!

That is too cute. I guess that must make you their favorite teacher.

That's cute. It reminds of of the notes Nicholas and I have been leaving for eachother in our shower. Actually it's really helping with his sentence structure, spelling and reading.

I totally agree! I always complain when Kyle is gone for more than a day or two (at least I finally got over whining just about call nights! ) ... and then I feel bad, and COMPLETELY admire all the wives (around her and otherwise) who do it all the time!

I do hope you are able to keep yourself occupied and the time passes quickly until he comes home!

My two older kids got to go to work at Kohls with a good friend yesterday which is why I only had Colby at home. All 3 of my boys got to participate in Take Your Child to Work Day. The kids all had a great time. Kohls gave them name tags, tours, let them shadow employees and fed them pizza.

I love Les Mis. I have a funny story about it. I was in about 8th or 9th grade and went on a chorus trip to New York City. We saw Les Mis on Broadway, one of my friends fell asleep how and or why I am not sure?? At one point when the fighting began and they were shooting off the guns, she woke up and screamed really loud because she thought that people were trying to shoot her. She did not know where she was.

It was really funny, as you could see the actor's make some really interesting faces. She later saw Les Mis and really liked it and did not fall asleep. We had to tease her about her first adventure with it though. We were teasing her that we would tie her mouth closed so she could not scream.

I actually fell asleep during Sleeping Beauty the night Kyle proposed I LOVE ballet (obviously), love the story, and my friend had a huge role -- but I had a migraine earlier and was just zonked from the medicine! Thankfully there was no shooting involved, or I might have done the same thing. Even as peaceful as it was, I jumped about a mile when I woke up for some reason Kyle enjoys making fun of me..... I'll have to tell him this story, see if he backs down a bit

As I seem to have diarrhea of the mouth (or fingers) tonight, as my mother would say, just one last story before I hop off to bed.

I went to a literary reading by David Sedaris earlier this week. Haven't laughed like that in ages. He is hysterical! If you haven't read any of his work, do yourself a favor and pick up one of his books. They include Naked, Me Talk Pretty One Day (about living in France as an American), and the Santaland Diaries (about his experiences as a Macy's Christmas elf wearing green tights). He read us some of his new work and we laughed until our cheeks hurt.

Not so unlike being on the DDA some nights!

DBF, some friends and I are off to see Jimmy Buffet on Friday night (tomorrow for me, today for the early risers!). Wish us luck as it is supposed to rain and we have lawn seats! It hasn't rained all week, and isn't supposed to the rest of the weekend, but it is supposed to pour all day tomorrow and tomorrow night. Yuck! I hate mud.

Then Saturday night, two girl friends and I are having a grown-up princess party! We are going to watch Princess Diaries 1 and 2, Princess Bride, and probably Cinderella. We are going to use Amy's famous cookie recipe and make cookies in tiara, shoes and other girly shapes. I have several tiaras which we will all have perched on our heads. Think we are going to run around in our jammies too. All of this while the guys are at Hooters and Dave & Buster's for a bachelor party. I'd say it's a fair trade, wouldn't you?! Frankly, I think we'll have more fun!!

The girls and I are dying to go to the new Bibbidi Bobbidi Boo-tique at Downtown WDW. I haven't seen where it has an age maximum, and we want to get princess up-dos with sparkly tiaras and glitter in our hair. What is Disney if not a place to be a child again. So bring on the princess fun!!

As you can tell from all my posts tonight, I have my serious side (work, literature such as Shakespeare, Junior League) and my fun side (Disney!, DDA, BABW, Princess stuff and anything pink).

Okay, time for bed. Talk to you all at some point this weekend or on Monday!!

Hey, my aunt and uncle are going down from Oklahoma City for the concert! I guess they were joining the who campout thing going on so may already be there. Have a great time and I hope that you stay dry.

My question, we were going over the day and resident camp brochure. I have really been trying to push getting these girls to summer camp, even last year. One of the girls said her Mom won't let her go until she is going into sixth grade, mind you all of these girls are between 1st and 3rd grade. I then said you could go to Day camp as you will be home at night or perhaps you could go for a short 3 day program.

At what age would you let your kid go to a day camp and what age would you let your kid go to a resident camp? A camp where you don't know the adults but all have went through background checks, etc.

I am asking because I went to a day camp probably before I went to kindergarten. My first overnight camp experience was for a week the summer before second grade, I went with my second cousin to a camp about an hour away from home. The only person I knew at camp was my second cousin who is 2 days younger than me.

I know these girls would love camp as they were begging me to call them in sick from school the next day because they did not want to go home. This is not meant to be judgemental, I am just curious. I know different cultures and families feel very differently about this, as I met people in college who had never slept away from home before or traveled more than 2 hours away from home.

I don't have any kids and I want to know what your opinion and experience is on the matter. Thank you in advance.

I think that it depends a lot on the child, though it looks as if the girls you are talking about are ready to go. It's hard for me to say, because I was usually at the day camps that my children went to. Not because I didn't want to let them go alone, but because the camps needed the help and I was happy to do it. I think that by kindergarten age, they are used to being away for the day, and I wouldn't have a problem with it. As for sleeping away, that is defnitely dependent on the child. I know that I tried to convince my oldest ds to do a week at Boy Scout camp the summer after 5th grade, and he just wasn't ready. Then at the end of 6th grade he did three separate weeks away from home (class trip, Boy Scout camp, Confirmation camp). Dd is in 7th grade and hasn't been away from me for a week yet (though she wouldn't have a problem with it nor would I). She went to the same camp for the 6th grade class trip, but I was a chaperone. She was all ready to head to a synchronized swim clinic for a week last year, but it was canceled. She'll try for that again this year.

Thanks for the list - wow! I only got three sources... and now you've given me a shed load more! OOhh I'll be in Disney heaven! And I think I sussed the transfering to mp3 thing so I can listen to them in the car.

Well, like I said -- some of them might stink, it's taking me a while to get around to them. But I love having them to pass time in the car, when I can't sleep, etc! I hope you are able to find them. I haven't done any Olde English except for Shakespeare - and I think he rocks! I love Midsummer night's dream and Hamlet. Haven't read a lot of his plays though so I should really go through some more.

Oh here's a funny tale.

I never read Romeo and Juliet but knew he died in it... so I went to the cinema to see the leonardo movie and spent the whole time waiting for him to die... then there was the whole death scene and I had tears streaming down my face and was so angry that Shakespeare killed them both! My friends couldn't figure out why I was so upset until they realised I didn't have a clue how it was going to end

Oh no! That is too funny, though. You had half of it.... but one dying doesn't seem quite so tragic, does it?

Midsummer Night's Dream is my FAVORITE! I was in our high school play in 9th grade, and have loved it ever since!
