Does she know that all she has to pay for is souvenier $$? Maybe that's the hang up.
Regardless, I'd tell her that you really want to share this with her, and for her to trust you on it. Have you bought anything already that you might lose if she were to back out now?

I wanted her to go on my first trip home.
She was more matter of fact. "We need to get on the same page" stuff. I think it is because she needs a new refridgerator and she doesn't want her son to buy it for her....Her son just wants to make her happy. He'd do anything for her. Anything. And he has the means to do it. She's just so "independent."
I like the "trust me"
I'm going to work on her when we go to Chicago next month....
