I say she should get a microphone and tape a bunch of sounds on the computer. Then we can change the sounds for different functions of our computers. Can't you imagine when there is an error we could hear Clare saying "Lurgy". When the computer starts, it could say "Blimey".

Ok, everyone, go hug your children right now! Alan just called me from work. He was called in tonight because of an Amber Alert. A man who is separated from his wife, kidnapped their 3 children today. He called his wife and told her that he was going to kill them and himself and they would all be reunited in heaven. He drove on the Interstate, abruptly left the road, cut through an alfalfa field and drove his truck up onto a cliff. He called his wife once again so she could say goodbye to the kids. Then he told the kids he was going to drive off the cliff and they would all go to heaven. Luckily, the police saw him cut off the Interstate and surrounded his car within moments. The kids are all fine, and he is in jail, now!

Makes you just want to hug and hold on to your babies, doesn't it?

Katie is terrified of Amber alerts. Because of Alan's work, we got to hear details of the Elizabeth Smart kidnapping that the general public didn't hear. Katie was so terrified that it was going to happen to her. That was such a terrible time, and everytime we hear about a kidnapping, or an Amber alert, Katie goes into nightmare mode for days. I try to keep her from hearing about them, but it happens so often, I can't shield her every time. I imagine that she and I will be having a sleepover on the couch bed tonight.

I know that logic might not work - but you could tell her that in 99% of cases kidnappings are by a non-custodial parent

and since she is in a home with a mom and dad who love her and each other she is very safe!
