OK. Then there's not that different after all. I thought they just stayed at home until 5 yo. FYI, in case you're interested, the school system in Mexico works like this. The public school system starts also mandatory at 5 yo. There are also daycare centers for working mothers who receive younger kids, even babies. But here the public schools are not like those in the US, but they are geared more towards the low income class people. Unfortunately, this is how it works and the schools and the education is not as good as it should be. Most, or I'd say all of the middle to upper income class people send their kids to private schools. There are religious and non-religious private schools too, with a wide range of monthly tuition fees, so they can be affordable to more people. Basically the difference between private schools are the facilities, the school size, the activities offered, sports, etc. and also if they teach a second language (mostly english) and at what level, so there are schools with one hour a day of english, there are bilingual schools which have half day and half day or multicultural school, as they're called, which are all-day english except for one or two subjects in spanish. This is where my kids go.
After this loooong background, the school levels that our school has are:
Nursery-2 years (some skip this level)
Pre-K-3 years
K1-4 years
K2-5 years
Pre-first-6 years
Elementary school-7 years
and the rest goes about the same
As you see, our school has an additional year called Pre-first, but that is because the kids learn to speak, read and write spanish and english at the same time, so they require a higher maturity level to be able to handle this. If the school has few or none english time, they don't have this level so kids start Elementary school at 6 yo.
As you say, in Kindergarten they work on letters, numbers, weather, days of the week, etc. and activities with songs, stories & games, and in our school this is in english. They do go 5 days a week though, and the hours vary from one school to another.
Ufff! I guess that SUMS it up. ;)
I hope it wsn't that boring.

Monica

Thank you for elaborating I thought it was basically the same as the U.S. but was confused since you thought differently. It was educational and not boring. Thanks for helpingm e learn something.

My son told me I can't take the baby to Disney until he can spell it. We're going next May. Everytime I see him, I say... :say hi to gramma; okay d i s n e y; say it with me... d i s n e y. All the time I'm holding him. I bet Disney will be his first word...

To cute and funny. I hope he can spell it, so it becomes no issue that you can't take your Grandson.

Ankles are no joke.....I've got to haul mine back to teh doctor. Not getting any better. Hurts like a :furious:

Perhaps I should have taken mine to the doctor. But I wasn't even in Florida 24 hours yet and was at the Magic Kingdom. There was no way I was spending all evening at the ER. I'd rather be at the Magic Kingdom in a lot of pain than wasting my vacation at the ER.

Becky

Ok, I have to go now. DH is asking if I’d like a “drink” of Patriot Bay and pineapple juice. He is laughing very hard right now.

He said.. oh, Paula, it’s been at least a year that you have been referring to the Patriot Bay drink.

Now I wonder what else he has pulled on me. The stinker.

I’ll talk with you all later.

I hope it starts getting better. Ice and heat and an ankle brace were my friend for quit a while.

I just asked DH what the name was and he said Patriot (then I heard him laugh and ask me why).:furious: So it seems that I have been calling Parrot Bay by the wrong name for sometime now. I think the man will be sleeping with the dog tonight. This explains why people would look at me funny when I spoke of the drink.

Thank you Becky for letting me know. I feel rather stupid at this time.

So let me say it correct this time.

I request “Parrot Bay” and pineapple juice.

This goes to show you that I should not trust DH when it comes to giving me drinks.

I am so sorry I did not mean to make you feel stupid. I just thought perhaps it was an alcohol I had never hear of. Or a nickname for something.

Did you know you were an accessory?!?! That is why I asked you to have Dave tell Kevin to get in touch with me - I was a little worried you might think something fishy was up!!!!

But I don't know how well you keep secrets so I couldn't say anything - Amy stinks at keeping secrets!!!

Ok, I had to check one last time before turning off the computer.

Becky, you can question and correct me anytime. I am good with that. And you didn't make me feel stupid, I was thinking of all the people standing in front of me that I said this to. They must have thought I was one drunk lady. Then again, I'm sure DH asked them to play along. No worries. I'm glad I know I can trust the DDA to set me straight.
As far as DH goes.... I just love him to much to stay mad at him. But I will get him some how for this.
Have a great night all.

Have a good night. I am sure the bartenders have heard a lot stupider things come out of people's mouths than this. Lots of people just want the alcohol and don't care what it is.

I am glad I could help you out.

When my two sons were almost 4 & 8 (now almost 6 and 10) I was considering having also the 3rd. I really wanted a little girl, but of course money was a big issue for us. One day a girl friend of mine told me something that I never forget: You will never regret having a son, but you may regret it in the future not having one when you really want it. It's true. Now is the time to do the things you really want, because later on you may not be able to do it. Thanks to God we had our little girl, she is now 1 and 4 months, and I'm crazy about her. My 2 boys are growing and are doing their own daily activities and I get to stay again with someone at home and I'm truly enjoying her as she were the first one. It's a little complicated sometimes because I need to keep up with the boys too, but she has adapted pretty well and enjoys even going to her brother's soccer games. Oh well, I was hoping for a little princess, a gymnast or a ballerina, but I guess I'll have to consider a soccer princess too. :wave2:

Monica

Thanks for sharing your story, it is very sweet!!!! Little girls are very special!!!Keep enjoying everyday with her, they grow up way too fast, as I'm sure you already know!!!
