The DDA Trouble Free Zone Part 25

We will probably have a quiet day today. Kathrin drove up from Richmond yesterday afternoon and we had our family cookout then instead of today. I learned how to use our riding lawn mower yesterday since it occurred to me I ought to know! Bob thought I was pushing for him to get up early and mow the lawn (I had already trimmed and done the push mowing on Saturday) but I really just wanted to learn how to use it. When I made him understand that he was more than happy to come out and teach me... ;)

So, the lawn is taken care of and so is the picnic. I need to find something to do today!

Hope you all have a wonderful Memorial Day, friends.

Good Morning DDA!

Thanks to all for all the good thoughts and prayers for my Mom.

She has been admitted into the hospital for further tests. She has all the signs of having a stroke, but her CAT scan came out normal.

She is very disoriented, and dehydrated. She is on IV fluids to help with that.

She didn't know me by name, but did recognize me. She knew my brother Chuck, but called him Charles-Charles-Charles. She thought that was his name.:confused3

She doesn't know what day it is, or how long she was lying on the floor.

The apartment manager said that the last time she checked on her was on Friday morning around 10:00 a.m. Well, her beads were on the door at that time. (Each resident puts a string of beads on their doors in the morning to let everyone know that they got up, and are alright. They take them off by noon, so in theory, she was o.k. at that point.)
Friday evening her friend had tried to call her, but got no answer. He called again on Saturday night, but got no answer again. Finally on Sunday he called the apartment manager and she checked on her and found her on the floor.
The doctors think that she is going to be o.k., but are running tests today to see if they can find out what happened.

Once I knew she was O.K. I went into work. So here I am, tired and exhausted, but too worried to sleep. I will check in on her again this afternoon and head into work again tonight.

Again, many thanks to all my DDA friends for all the prayers and support.

Becky, lots of good thoughts and prayers for your grandfather too!

Talk to you all later!

Robyn - Well, the mess will still be there whenever you get around to it. At least that's how my messes are! I have managed to do a fair amount of laundry today. DH took the papers out for recycling and took the old computer to storage so we are making baby steps of progress. DH also did the dishes that were stacked up in the kitchen, so things are better than they were!

The problem is that I can't see either of the girl's new beds! So I at least need to get in their room today.

I can use prayers and good thoughts for my Grandpa. Remember how at Christmas we had him go to the ER because of arthritis and Gout. Well he was supposed to go to an arthritis specialist he had an appointment but because his pain and problems had went away he never went.

Well he ended up back at the ER on Thursday or Friday for the same reason. Sorry my days are running together. He is in tons of pain and can hardly walk again. They of course sent him home with meds and now has an appointment with the arthritis specialist for August. I am hoping they will be able to get an earlier appointment or that the meds he has now work, so his pain goes away. He is staying at my Aunt's with my Grandma as she can't care for him with him having a hard time walking. This stresses her out and she has several health problems of her own aggravated by stress.

Here's :wizard: that his medicine kicks in soon and that he can get into the dr'.s earlier than August.

Elizabeth and Theresa,

I had two visitors today that made me think of you.

How adorable!!

I may need to borrow that hay baler for the back yard here. I managed to get the front done today, but got caught in the rain....AGAIN! I think that I am trying to set a season record for number of times rained on while raining. I have mowed 5 or 6 times I think and today was the 3rd time that it started to rain on my just before I finished. Today was the worst though because it sprinkiled for less than two minutes and then opened up and poured. I had three short strips left and felt like I was setting a land speed mowing record trying to finish before I was totally dripping in water.

This just made me :rotfl: Sorry you're not having much luck mowing though.

I just got an e-mail from Dadboss2B, and he said the clarifications I requested for the contract are fine. They will revise the document and get it to me in the next few days! We're in the home stretch! I think the deal is going to close as planned! I hope it is!

:cool1:

Aw, thanks! We just got back and had a wonderful time! We cleaned Alan's dad's grave, and then sat around and talked about him. Alan told the kids stories about his Dad in WW II. It was so neat to see the kids asking questions about him. Then we did Alan's grandparent's graves, and by this time Alan's mom was there. She was able to tell stories that Alan didn't know. Finally, we went to my Dad's sister's grave. She was my favorite aunt, and I had a lot of stories to tell about her! We ended the day with a Dutch Oven meal of potatoes, and pork ribs. Yummy!!!

I can remember my grama telling me stories when I was growing up and I love that I can connect the past to the present.

Just a quick post to say graduation and the party went fantastic. Bill finally made it here from Japan JUST in time to make graduation - long story which I'll share later but he made graduation just before the graduates walked in. It was a great party. All that is left at the house are my mom, sister & her kids, brother Bill and his infant son. And of course, Chuck, Katrina, Becky & I. Becky is off to the all-night grad party and I'm off to bed.

So glad that your brother made it! Sounds like the party was a sucess. Congrats again to Becky.

Now that I'm caught up I'll share our day with you.

Sounds like a nice day at the fishing derby. Sorry Colby ended up at the ER. Hope his feet heal soon.

Nice to have some time to visit. How are you doing?

It is good seeing you around here!

Hope all is going well with you and the baby. Not much longer how exciting.:goodvibes

I am doing very well so I shouldn't complain. I am just at that miserable stage where I can't get comfortable. The girls are very excited and I am looking forward to 9 or 10 weeks of vacation.

Yep, we're excited. It will give me time to plan our Dec. trip I haven't even figured out our ADR's yet. I even started my diet this week and have managed not to attack the ice cream truck man today for driving near my house.

:rotfl:

Well, it's off to bed with me. I need to try to get some sleep before this picnic tomorrow - just checking the weather forecast one last time. It definitely doesn't look promising - I hope it either stays away completely, or becomes a total wash-out so we can in good faith cancel it. I'm afraid it will rain just enough to keep our guests away and us all wet, but not enough to warrant throwing all that $$ down the drain. I've packed myself an extra change of clothes, shoes, and beach towels - I'm afraid I could need them tomorrow.

Good night, DDA, and happy Memorial Day! :goodvibes

Hope you stay dry Lindsay or that you can cancel it completely!

Wanna drive to Maryland today?!?;)

Glad to hear she is ok. Hope the tests can give you some more answers. Get some sleep.

Well I am off to attack the girls room right after breakfast. I do need to make a grocery store run at some point this afternoon. Have a great day DDA!

Debbie - What sweet kitties! I agree with you NOT bringing them in the house, so hopefully they will stay near your laundry basket! Did you see the mama cat anywhere?
Aurora is still sniffly and sneezy, but she is eating and drinking and using her litter so I am sure it isn't anything serious. I don't know if she caught some sort of cold from the kitten, or if it is stress or allergies or what.

Tia - I hope the weather cooperates with you so you can get the yard done and not have to worry about it for a week or so! It stopped raining here for maybe an hour or 2 this afternoon, then it started right back in again.

I just got an e-mail from Dadboss2B, and he said the clarifications I requested for the contract are fine. They will revise the document and get it to me in the next few days! We're in the home stretch! I think the deal is going to close as planned! I hope it is!

I'm so glad the job is working out as planned! :goodvibes

Elizabeth and Theresa,

I had two visitors today that made me think of you. I was in the kitchen fixing lunch when I heard something crying at the door, I opened it up and there was a small kitten, we were outside holding that one when we heard another one crying around the corner. I think they belong to my neighbors who have been away since Friday and I'm not sure when they will be back.

Here they are playing in the backyard,

And they decided my hamper looked like a good place for a nap ( my laundry room is outside so I keep a hamper on the back patio)

I fed them and gave them something to drink, I hate to think that they might get hit in the street, but I can't take the chance of bringing them in as I have an 11 year old cat now, and these kittens might not be completely healthy, they are difinitely flea infested.

I'm really not a cat person (sorry folks!) but those kittens are absolutely adorable!

Just a quick post to say graduation and the party went fantastic. Bill finally made it here from Japan JUST in time to make graduation - long story which I'll share later but he made graduation just before the graduates walked in. It was a great party. I hope your picnic goes off as planned, with no rain! (Or, as you mentioned, gets canceled entirely!)

Tom, thank you for checking in. How saddening it must have been for you all to see her so disoriented! I hope each day finds her a little bit of improvement, and that the doctors get answers quickly! :wizard:

Good morning & Happy Memorial Day!

Tom sending lots of :wizard: for your mother!

Theresa the kitten you are trying to adopt looks similar to one of our cats :)

Debbie I love the pictures of the kittens in your back yard, they are so cute!

Lindsay I hope your picnic goes smoothly today!

Vicki I am glad to hear your db made it.

Becky :wizard: for for your grandfather.

Elizabeth I forgot to post, but I did receive my pins. Riley was so happy to have that collection completed! The pin I bought for myself, has Tinkerbell on it & it from the YOAMD.

Deb I hope Colby's feet heal quickly :wizard: Sounds like you all had fun at the fishing Derby!

:wizard: & :grouphug: to all!

Yesterday turned out to be a beautiful day & evening. Work went pretty smoothly & I was out of there by 3:30. The boys spent the night with friends & Gary & I went out for a little while. I was home & in bed by 10.

It is raining outside now & looks gloomy. Riley has a game this afternoon. I know this sounds bad, but I sorta hope it gets canceled.

We were thinking about cooking out here at home, but I'm not sure what we will do now with the rain. Guess I will need to stop at the store beings I did not take anything out to fix tonight.

I need to get ready for work. Hope everyone has a great day!

Ouch - this had me cringing just reading about it. It always amazes me how painful splinters can be. (It also reminds me of Body Wars at Epcot. )

I hope Colby is feeling much better tomorrow! :wizard: :wizard:

And, congrats on a good night at work! :goodvibes

I was totally thinking about Body Wars as he was talking about Colby's body absorbing the splinter :rotfl:

Yes it is definitely sad that people would need to jump to conclusions.:sad2: Reflection of the times I guess. I worry about Blake rolling off the top bunk in his sleep but so far so good. We needed the bunk bed to free up space so we could move Caleb's bed in there so Effie can have his own room as his sleep schedule is different than the older boys.

I was worried in the ER about the doctor jumping to conclusions. Colby still has the rememants of that friction burn on his hand from by SIL's treadmill. Thankfullly the doctor didn't mention it :scared: Colby seems to be feeling better today. We've scrubbed again and reapplied the topical antibiotics. He is running around in his socks now. He wants to go outside (with sneakers of course). Nick is helping with a Car Wash fundraiser at 10 AM so I think that I'll head to the SuperWalmart to do some shopping. We need groceries and to refill our first aid kit. Have a great day

Deb

Yeah for the contract!!!! That process wasn't bad at all this time around was it? I'm glad that everything is falling into place for you at last. :cool1:

Deb - I don't think DS could wear Brother's swimsuit, but he might have been able to when he was 9! He is 11, and he is about 54" and weighs 65 lbs. on a good day. He will be in a booster seat for the rest of his life. One family I interviewed with has a 3 year old that weighs 48 lbs. Can you imagine? My friend's kids are pretty big, but her DH is a BIG guy. Her DD is 2 years younger than DS, but has been bigger than DS for as long as I can remember. I guess somebody has to be at the bottom of those growth charts!:rotfl:

That is totally Rachel! Everyone always comments that she is sooo tall, but you put her next to her classmates and the majority of them are almost a head taller or more.

Now that I'm caught up I'll share our day with you. We got up bright and early and took the boys to the fishing Derby. They loved it. The pond was just stocked yesterday. There was a 5 fish per child limit. The kids had caught there limit in the first 1/2 hour. They didn't catch the biggest or smallest fish so no trophies, but it was good fun. We had to wait 2 hours longer for the door prizes. Colby won a new reel and Hunter won the ugliest fish pillow I've ever seen :lmao: They also got goody bags with a bobber, hooks and fake bait. They fed us grilled hot dogs and cheeseburgers, chips and soda. Great morning. Then we went to my parents home to open the pool. While we were there Colby ran up onto an empty car hauler trailer that was on the lawn. You know the kind that are made with pressure treated board for the floor. Yep, he ran onto it BAREFOOT. He had/has at least 30 splinters in each food :scared1: We took him home and soaked his feet then tried to remove the splinter. We quickly gave up as there were way too many and he was screaming everytime I picked at one. So off to the ER for us. This was at 2 PM and I needed to be at work at 3 PM. I called to say that I would be late. Thankfully the ER was quiet so they saw him quickly. The ER doctor said that he was only going to remove the bigger pieces. The rest will either surface or be absorbed by the body :confused3 He scrubbed his feet and used a scalpul to get a few out. They covered his feet with bacatracin and gauze and home we came. Now we need to soak/scrub his feet several times a day to keep them clean to prevent infection and hopefully to work some more splinters out. We go back on Tuesday for a wound check to make sure that he hasn't gotten infected. Needless to say he cannot walk comfortably. I ended up being 45 minutes late for work. It started slow. I was lucky enough to get a party of 15 (that's the biggest party I've had at once to date). I ended up only doing 25 people, but that's not bad for a sunday night. I came home and had to do the foot scrubbing then read my little angel a book. He has suddenly (thankfully) begun to enjoy being read to. I told him that we should do it everynight :goodvibes Now I'm able to relax for the first time all day.

Poor Colby!! I hope that it is at least easier for him to walk soon and loads of :wizard: that there are no infections!

Yep, we're excited. It will give me time to plan our Dec. trip I haven't even figured out our ADR's yet. I even started my diet this week and have managed not to attack the ice cream truck man today for driving near my house.

Sounds great all around. About time you have some time to yourself for trip planning! It's been one busy school year for you. Good luck with the diet!! Come join us on the weight loss thread when you have more time to get online.

Nick is helping with a Car Wash fundraiser at 10 AM so I think that I'll head to the SuperWalmart to do some shopping. We need groceries and to refill our first aid kit. Have a great day

Deb

What do you have in your first aid kit? After a small injury at the park the other day, I realized that I really need to get one set up. I looked at the prepackaged ones, but didn't find what I wanted. I'm thinking I'll just get a bag/box and make my own.

Good morning, DDA!

Looks like more scattered showers around here today so no back yard mowing. On top of being damp there is a spring under one part so it is REALLY wet there.

I guess I'd better take advantage of the quiet and get something done. Dad is still asleep, Mom at work and Rachel won't be home until noon.

Have a good day everyone!

So i just watched m aroon 5 on the Today show...The last song they sang was the song they dedicated to Alyssa when she was alive-She will be loved...While they were singing it, i noticed Adam (lead singer) had Alyssa's bandana wrapped around his guitar strap. That's so cool! I saw them on Saturday Night Live a few weeks ago and thought of you and Alyssa! :goodvibes

It's going to hot here today!! Abi and I are going to finish planting the garden....got the veggies left to do. Jim's going to put together the grill.
Cassidy better figure something out:rotfl: (she actually jammed her finger nice and good on Saturday at a graduation party...so we've given her a bit of a pass).

Than we think we are either going bowling or to the zoo....just thought about it...not sure how Cassidy is going to bowl with her bruised middle finger. :confused3

Hope everyone has great days.

As we remember the family members who have gone before us.....I want to take a minute to thank the men and women who have fought for our freedom and those who have given the ultimate sacrifice. THANK YOU!!!

Happy Memorial Day!!!
