Not only have we been - but it was Skunka and my first date! We went into Manhattan to Madison Square Garden for the big show. It was one of the best times I have ever had - and a great idea for a first date. I always thought we would get engaged at the circus, but no, we got engaged in a strawberry patch!

Have a great time Tammi - the kids will love it.

Ok, I don't know why, but the strawberry patch struck me as funny.

I'm back. I just spent 2 days catching up with everyone. Sounds like a lot of you need pixie dust and hugs. I'm so sorry some of you are going through the things you're going through right now. Just know that you have a place to vent and lots of shoulders to cry on here on the DIS.

I was out of town, throwing a baby shower for one of my best friends. We've known each other since junior high school and the many miles between us (AL and NJ) don't matter one bit. It should be a very happy time, but it's not. Her husband (not DH) leaves a lot to be desired -- doesn't help around their fixer-upper of a house, doesn't bring in much money, doesn't provide her with companionship, doesn't do anything for anyone other than himself -- and being up there clued me in on the fact that it's even worse than I had imagined. Although he did agree to this baby, he has said that it wouldn't change his life and that if something happened to my friend, he would not raise the child. Come on, jerk, even animals take care of their young! (Plus he hates Disney. No redeemable qualities in that guy whatsoever.)

I'm very sad that my friend will be a married "single mother" and wish I lived close enough to help. She is the sweetest person I know, but never learned how to make a decision and is now stuck living with the aftermath of her many poor choices. It's painful to witness.

Glynis and Midnite You both have such beautiful kids. Glynis how ever did you get all 4 to stand still at the same time? I have been to the picture place several times trying to get a good picture of the boys. I just want one where they all look up at the same time.

Thank you. I really appreciate that. My friend is not very religious (her parents were of 2 very different faiths and never did settle on which way to raise their children), but I know if she were, it would give her the strength she so desperately needs.

I just found out today that a coworker is getting divorced, and her soon-to-be-ex sounds just like my friend's husband. He went as far as to request that his visitation rights be granted to his parents instead. He actually said, "I wasn't a dad to (son's name) for the first 5 years of his life; I'm not about to start now."

I can't wait for my DH to come home from work so I can give him a great big hug and tell him how much I appreciate all he does for me and the kids. and kudos to all the wonderfull DDA dads we have here, too.

PLD. We celebrated all of our boys birthdays on our last trip as they all fall within a few weeks of each other. We had a rental car so I made a trip to Walmart to pick up snack and got a cake, balloons and small gifts from the characters. I had brought cards for each boy and gift bags to match. Chris made sure that he had the boys out of the room at a specific time and I snuck the cake, balloons and gifts into the room. I joined them and we all returned to the birthday "surprise" in the room. They loved the cake, which Walmart personalized. They had a balloon with their favorite character on it and a gift from their favorite character. It was a huge hit.

I keep waiting for one of you to post a picture of an ugly kid - just doesn't seem to happen though!!

Last night my mom and I went to an organization seminar - it was very informative - I hope to get my house there this spring - I HATE all the clutter but never seem to know what to do with it!

That is one of my biggest gripes. Stores have so many cute things for girls the boys dept. is slim pickins.

My mom has done both and says it is amazing the difference it makes. With me she was among the youngest (21yo when I was born) and with my DSis she is the oldest (40yo when she was born). She was really hoping to lay back this time around and just "assist" the younger moms with events, Girl Scouts, etc. Unfortunately for her, she's finding things much like ReAnSt mentioned and so few of the younger parents volunteer for things that my mom ends up leading so that the kids don't miss out.

The interesting thing about my troop is most of them have older kids as well. Ages 20ish and in the teens. So unfortunately they can not claim this as there reason. One of the Mom's 20 year olds have helped at two meetings this year when she was sick.

My situation has improved slightly. I got a new girl last night and her Mom is interested in working on two try-its with the girls, plus another might do another try-it and so perhaps they are getting the clue. I can hope right. This Mom has a 17 year old and a second grader.

This is very exciting news here at our house today.

I grew up in a very close knit neighborhood where everyone knew everyone and we all hung out at the golf course and pool together all summer. Upon graduating from college - I accepted an internship with one of the men in our neighborhood who was a member of congress. His name is John Boehner

Lo and behold - guess who was John's staff counsel?!? My DH

I was offered a full time job and Steve and I proceeded to fall in love - we moved back to cincinnati where I worked on the campaign

Tammi - when I lived in DC - I had numerous brushes with fame!! I danced with Newt Gingrich when he was speaker of the house, I met Bob Dole, went to one of President Clinton's state of the union, Chris Farley came and imitated Newt Gingrich at one of the meetings my boss was running - I was sitting right behind Chris Farley and ended up on all the national evening news programs AND Entertainment Tonight!!! My phone rang off the hook that night!!

So I am thinking I should open a business to travel to all of your houses and make built ins for you guys!!! What would you all pay me??!!?? and would you watch my kids while I did it?

Speaking of the Circus, Barnum and Bailey's has a really neat program. Free Ticket for Babies They will give all kids a free circus ticket before their first birthday. It is free to take your kid to the circus up to the time they are 2. So you can use it when they are older.

If you know anyone who is pregnant or who has reccently had a baby, please pass the information along.
