Tink2020 - my DH used to work for a local homebuilder - we both say now that our biggest regret was renting when we first got married - but we nor our wallets was ready for a house payment - in hindsight - we should have bought a condo and then had some equity in that

merging my advice with Nancy's - I would buy a condo - when she says she never saw her DH - she is NOT kidding

if you buy a condo - you will not have the yardwork to worry about but you will still be building equity- and I would look for a condo with close proximity of the hospital - so that kyle is home as ofetn as possible

That's the plan as of today. We can afford a condo pretty much right away, and then we would have the equity and the investment will make more of a downpaymet in the long run than we have now. Well, not MORE per se (we are blessed with a situation in which we have a fairly hefty downpayment available, for which we are very grateful). But at least it would be "down", and not sitting around waiting to be spent on something less important.

The only problem with looking very close to the hospital is neighborhood choices. We want something "new" (not like just built, but new as in comfortable, holding up, etc) and in a safe area..... that's not very common around the hospitals, unfortunately.

Kyle commutes about 30 minutes now, and he is on pretty much the same schedule as the residents with his particular course load this year. We've managed, but I'm sure he wouldn't want to drive any farther.

Cinderumbrella -

we picked our vacation dates for October 2005 when we planned to go to WDW in October 2004 - we knew that we would be going a week earlier than we had in Oct 04 so that we could use our annual pass - it was also important to us that we did not go over Columbus day and we had to go after october 1st bc that is when our DVC pointes replenished

well - I never said anything out loud b/c I really did not see how my plans mattered to the rest of the world BUT while I was in WDW in Oct 04 - my sister (not nancy) called and asked my mom if she wanted to go to WDW with her the week that we were planning on going in 2005 - she said yes and our dilemma began

should we go to WDW the same week as my sister or go a week earlier over columbus day - I should note - I do Disney commando style and my sister only went 4 times during her stay and did not spend a full day in the parks - we could not merge our trips

mom said she would not go for two weeks and we decided not to change our dates and we would just see my sister and mom when we saw her

Julia and my mom soon began to get more and more upset at the prospect of not going to WDW together and my mom finally told us she would be so torn and upset if we were there the same week

so we changed our dates to Columbus day - I spent the weeks before my trip worrying about how crowded that weekend would be and I really let it cast a shadow on my trip

everything worked out fine and although the magic kingdom was a little more crowded than my tastes prefer - things worked out

but I learned a very important lesson - from now on I am picking my dates and not compromising for other people - I am the type of person who needs to be in control of my vacation and in the future I will pick the dates that best suit my family

This is so true. And it goes to both ends of the spectrum. My DH's hometown closed for DAYS at a time with a dusting, as he wasn't even in any city limits. Yet when we were in Minneapolis (and this was echoed by family there), they got about 6 inches of snow over night and you'd never tell looking at the roads! :confused3

I can't imagine how crazy it is on that rare occasion that it snows in the south! :goodvibes

When it snows here in Alabama (the south) we get out of school and every one enjoys it for the first day. They advise everyone to stay off the roads and just about everything shuts down. It has been several years since we have had any snow. :( My kids would love to have snow. My 5-year-old has never really seen snow. We actually got 10 inches in 1988 and my DH and I took of work and had friends over and we had a snow party for two days. :teeth: I think this is when DS #1 was conceived.

Thank you to everyone for your prayers and concerns

I have had a long day - thank goodness my Dh has been a saint and even cooked me a FABULOUS dinner tonight

today was hard - my dad had to call all of his aunts and uncles and of course had to tell what happened a million times -

I tried to call the people I could - doctors, business things etc. and figure out hotel arrangements and travel plans.

I don't feel like I did much but my mom and dad seemed very appreciative

My mom was able to get home from out of town last night at 3:30 in the morning and went with my dad and I to the funeral home this morning. we started with a stop at my grandma's and that was very strange and difficult on all of us

then we went to the funeral home and got to see my grandma - it was the first time in my life I really believed that someone actually looked better dead than when they were alive - she looked at peace and that was comforting to me and my parents

I am wipted out but wanted to let you all know how much your support has meant to me
Kate -
Thanks for keeping us posted. Please know that your DDA 'family' is here for you. You all are in my prayers.

Well I called the Timeshare Store and said put me on your waiting list for 25/50 point contracts. I figured it's a way to get my feet wet with this thing without spending too much.

To Nancy and Kate,

Thanks for keeping us updated. Please know you are in our thoughts and prayers and we'd do anything for you, so don't hesitate to ask! :goodvibes

Kevin would like to know why all the cats on Blue's Clues are completely coherent but the dogs seem to have speech issues.

It's one of the great mysteries of the universe. :confused3

ETA: It's probably the same reason that the spices can talk as well.

To whomever suggested the scrapbookers support thread- I am in!!! I have my Mickey album, all the paper, stickers etc and just can't seem to bring myself to start it.

When I suggested this, it was tongue in cheek because I wasn't sure how people would feel about it. If it was a dumb idea, I didn't want to look dumb. However, it sounds like there are several others that would find it helpful so I'm going to create a new DDA motivation support thread. Kind of like the Weight Loss accountability thread. I won't call it scrapbook in case others want to use it for things like getting their autograph books done, their t-shirts designed or tie-dyed or whatever. Look for it in the next hour or so. I am going to put in a goal for my scrapbooking and autograph books. The autograph books will get done because there is a deadline. However, without this thread, I know I'd never get any more pages done in my scrapbook. We can then post our progress as we make progress.

What do you think about me updating the first page, like the birthdate page, so that we have everyone's goals in one very prominent place?

OK. I'm going to stop my perfectionist, work-aholic ways and leave it at this for now. If others have ideas or think there is a better way, post it on the new thread.

Apparently, Kevin is not alone is his struggle with this question.

" Blue Mute

Cole and I were watching Blue's Clues and I started to wonder about something. Why doesn't Blue (the dog) talk? There are a lot of other characters on the show that can talk. Periwinkle the cat can talk. A pail and shovel can talk. A bar of soap can talk. A set of salt and pepper shakers can talk, as can their baby shaker paprika. So, Joe can talk to a bar of soap, and the soap can respond, but Blue can only communicate with a series of grunts and moans."

Something that always bothers me on Blue's Clues: the cat talks, the mailbox talks, the salt and pepper shakers talk, but none of the dogs can talk? Not just Blue, but I've seen at least Magenta and Green, and none of them can talk. What's up with that?"

All from various locations....

And then there's this:

So.... maybe there's also a group out there somewhere that debates this? It would be worth looking into :rotfl2:

Not to mention the sand shovel and bucket and the bar of soap.

ETA: You beat me to it! Why oh why do the kids HAVE to have dinner? Don't they know it cuts into my DIS time?

is anyone watching the golden globes?

did you see the opening song? it wasn't so great but I am impressed they put it together with the photos inthe timeframe they had!!!! those were all shots from tonight!! I know how hard I word to get a design right - things like that really impress me!!!!

That is for people who actually scrapbook which I don't. I want accountability from my DDA friends - like the weight loss thread. I can scrapbook. I just need the motivation and support to get moving. The scrapbook board is more for people that scrapbook regularly and they share ideas all the time. I have all kinds of ideas (and don't need anymore to feel even more lazy).
