Congrats on 5000. Hope you feel better soon.

[And lastly, I just received a very upsetting e-mail when I got home tonight. A friend that I have known for almost all my life is in the last stages of melanoma. They were advised today to begin end of life planning. They have 3 boys ages 15, 18 and 21, that my boys have been friends with over the years. She has been through more than you can imagine, including having both of her feet amputated in November due to a blood infection she got while her immune system was knocked out for a treatment. Anyway, they have been through so much, and now I believe it is time for it to end. It is so sad, and yet inevitable from what I understand. And I suppose it is time for the suffering to end for her, and for her family to try to begin to heal. But it is still just so incredibly sad and hard for me to comprehend. Well, I just needed to get that out.

I need to go to bed.
Big hugs to you, your sons and your friend. Melanoma is just awful. I lost my favorite aunt to it this last May, the week before Mother's Day. She had been diagnosed in September of 2004 and underwent a really experimental treatment for it. It seemed like it was working until her heart weakened. By February, she had suffered heart attacks, strokes and the melanoma was not getting any smaller. After one major heart attack, the doctor's sent her home with hospice care. Amazingly, she seemed to get better for a while. She took that time to spend every waking minute with her family and friends, letting them know what she wanted when the end finally came. It still came as quite a shock when she died, but oh how glad we were that she was finally out of her pain. She was a Theater person, through and through, and the week before she died, she directed her funeral. She wrote out exactly what she wanted, and sent her husband to buy a new suit. While he was gone, she recorded a poem to be played at the funeral called "Bury Me Softly When I Die." It was an amazing funeral! Sad, but beautiful, you know?

Take some time to really sit down with your friend, if possible, and really tell her what she has meant to you! Life is so fleeting and we never know when it will be taken from us. My prayers are with you all at this time!

Thank you everyone for my Birthday wishes!! DH took me to dinner and a play, so we just got home. The play was very different, a dark comedy called Vigil. Anyway we had a good night.

Happy Birthday to everyone that I might have missed. Last week our youngest son turned 27. I feel old and young at the same time. :lmao:

Anyone that is now on a trip or getting ready to take one, hope it will be or is funtastic.

EVERYONE STOP GETTING SICK!!!!!

Denise, sending pixiedust: your way

Anyone feeling blue, I can relate, it is the time of year. All of the holidays are done with.

Now I need to have anyone tell me that it is all in my head literally.

Saturday night my DH and I went out and met our kids to celebrate youngest son's b-day. I knew it would be smokey and told myself that we would leave if it got really bad. After over two hours, we finally left. I went to sleep after taking some medication, and woke up at 5am. :confused3
I took a shower and more migraine medicine and sat in front of the computer and played games. I could just not go to sleep. Hubby looked at me when he got up and told me to go to bed. I did but really did not sleep, just dozed. I noticed I still smelled smoke. I was like a crazy person walking around the house, cleaning and doing laundry to get rid of any smoke smell I could find. Woke up Monday morning and could STILL smell smoke. I finally left work an hour early and went home and rested on the recliner. DH made supper for me which I could only eat a little bit. I took more migraine medicine but it got worse overnight and I stayed home on Tuesday.
Here it is Wednesday and I just cannot get rid of the smell. Could it be my sinuses? Am I going crazy? :guilty: I am very sensitive to light and am not really hungry at all. Of course the next step is the DR but what do I tell him? With no insurance, I am not looking forward to any BS.
Any ideas?

Terry

Hope you are feeling better Kate :wizard: Dh now has it as well :guilty: I am keepng my fingers crossed that I do not get it or older ds.

QUOTE=julia & nicks mom]:guilty: Guess who has the flu today!!!

I just had a little bit of sprite - I will see if it stays down - my stomach has finally stopped hurting constantly - but since i had the sprite it is a little unsettled

I guess I will wait and see
Yes this is scarey. When Riley was in kindergarten he was in an accident on his way home from school. It was snowing out & the bus slid & hit another vehicle. I was in tears, Thankfully he was ok as was everyone else.

I hate stories like this - could you imagine sending your perfectly healthy child to school in the morning and then the bus crashed on the way home?

It is stuff like this that makes me want to curl up with them in my bed and never let them out of my sight!!!!

Hi all- we arrived home very late tonight -- taking my dad to the airport in the morning.... I'll let you know how our trip was later today. We're exhausted!!!

Welcome home! Can't wait to hear how your trip went :goodvibes

Nanny McFee - this is not a rip-off of Mary poppins, but based on the "Nurse Matilda" books written by Christina Brand. When Emma Thompson approached film companies they said she had to think up new names because "People will get it mixed up with "Matilda" by Roald Dahl" ". I believe poeple can work out that there's more than one person in the world with a name, but that's the movies for you

The basic plot (which has been slightly softened for the movie) is that this family have a large number of children who are out of control. All the previous nannies and governesses are driven away by the terrible behaviour of these.....little dears until Nurse Matilda arrives. Each time they misbehave and disobey, Nurse Matilda bangs her big stick and the children have to go on and on until they say please and sorry (one incident I remember the children threw their porridge at the walls and NM made them lick it off until they said please and sorry). As the children get better behaved NM gets less ugly and finally disappears off.

I haven't seen the film but you could go to apple.com and see the trailer.

Ellen - I am so sad to hear this. Leaving behind the children is what breaks my heart. Prayers for all of you.
