of course, mine says "Elin" ;)

I was going to say "Who's Joe?" :lmao:

Ellen - I'm so happy that your granddaughter is home! Now, here's hoping both Mom and Baby continue to do well! I'm so glad that your in-laws got to see her! What a special thing. My grandma always said she wanted to live to see a great-grandchild. Lo, and behold, she's lived long enough to see 27 of them!

Elizabeth - I'm keeping my fingers crossed for the vacation bid! Hopefully with the power of the DDA behind you, things will work out someway!

Denise - Thanks for letting us know about Marci! My prayers will continue to be with her.

Well, I'm off to take the girls to preschool, and then to do some more shopping. I have all the gifts taken care of, but now, I need to stock up on the food for the holiday! Not to mention holiday baking. Anyone that has looked at the Quick and Easy Holiday Treats threads knows what I'm talking about. I made Pretzel Wreaths last night, using candy cane kisses, and I'm now addicted! I also made a wonderful new cookie recipe last night using dried cranberries, chocolate chips and white chocolate chips! Very yummy! If anyone wants these recipes, let me know!

Denise - thanks for letting us know about Marci's Mom.

Marci - please know you are really in my thoughts so much right now. I hope you find peace.

Well, this is it! Vacation bid day! :bitelip:

Unfortunately neither one of us feels very positive about it. At least when it is over we will know which 2 weeks we have to work with. DH says he will try for April and October if he can't get any of the weeks I marked for him. That would give us the weekend in Feb, a weekend in October, and the big trip in August for DS & me with DH joining in the last 2 days. Definitely NOT the best use of time and money, but better than staying home all year! I hate to pay all that money for airfare and only stay for 3 days, but desperate times call for desperate measures! ;)

Pixiedust from :tink: herself that it goes better than you expect.

Marci's mom passed away around 9:15pm last night very peacefully. Visitation for family is tomorrow night and the funeral is Thursday. They are still going to Disney on Friday. I talked to Marci this am, and she sounded very good. I will keep you posted.

Prayers & pixiedust: continuing for Marci as you deal with this difficult time. When I lost my father, the best piece of advice I got from someone was to remember the good times. I clung to those memories to help me make it through. So, remember the good times with your mom!

Jen- You will do wonderful. :thumbsup2 My advice is when you meet the teacher to ask her for them class rules and the expectations they have for you. Also if you are meeting them while the students are in class, try to observe the different behaviors and techniques they are using to get their attention, quiet them down, etc. Also try and observe how they starts their day, where she keeps supplies, etc. These things will be important for when you are in charge of the class so you don't have to constantly ask where things are kept and how to do certain things.

Also if you have an internship coordinator get to know them as much as possible early on in the semester, that will be a big help in case something happens during the semester that they are not just relying on their formed opinion of you and have an actual opinion from having met and talked with you. Good luck, :wizard: and :grouphug: I know you will be fantastic and do a great job. :thumbsup2

As for your boyfriend, I hope he stops behaving oddly and that you can figure things out. :wizard: :wizard: and :grouphug: :grouphug:

Thanks Becky--I just wrote down all your tips!

Just between you and me (and the rest of the DDA, too), student teaching terrified me! I was assigned to do my student teaching in the English/Drama department of a VERY tiny high school. We're talking, the senior class had 12 members!!! Even though it was so tiny, I was out of my mind scared!!! Alan had to take the day off work to drive me, as I was shaking so badly, I couldn't even put my makeup on! The drive took 25 minutes, and the whole time, I kept saying, "I changed my mind! I don't want to do this!" Alan kept reassuring me that it would be fine. He dropped me off, and then he stayed there waiting for me the whole day. Of course, once I got inside the school, and got that first class behind me, all was fine! I actually grew to enjoy it! Except the days that my professors came to "judge" my teaching!

You're going to be just fine! You're so prepared, and you have such an enthusiasm for teaching! The students are going to be so lucky to have you!

Thank you so much for sharing your experiences...im glad i wasnt the only one and glad to see you enjoyed it!! Luckily, it takes me 10 minutes to get to the school which is great..thanks so much

Good morning (or afternoon!) DDA!
After i posted last night, i was up til 3am so i didnt wake up til 1130..i havent slept that late in a LONG time..but im feeling a lot better this morning and im going to be relaxing for the day...hope you have a great day

Thanks for the information on Marci-

Marci our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family!!

The WPASADI Red Carpet selections are up... and not one DDAer! :sad2: They are good choices, though.

I liked a couple of the DDAer's dresses better but it is a good selection. I still liked Deb's dress best.

Thanks for all the good wishes on vacation bids! The tension is mounting as the time draws near! One of DH's friends bid earlier this morning (must be nice to have seniority  ) and he said they called him for his beid 40 minutes ahead of schedule. Well, yah, the guys in front get their first choices so no need to dilly dally with alternate weeks! Of course it doesn't take them 10 minutes each to bid.

I need to go look at the red carpet choices. Since there aren't any DDA to vote for I hope one of the other 3 dresses I liked made it!

Marci - My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family during this very difficult time. I hope you find peace. :grouphug:

I wanted to post an update on our DGD. Our DIL was discharged on Friday, and our granddaughter was discharged yesterday after only 5 days instead of 7. She is doing great!

They had to take her to her pediatrician's office today and tomorrow to get her last 2 antibiotic shots to complete the full 7 days, but they were able to take her home because she was doing so well.

Everyone is doing fine and we were able to take my in-laws to see their great granddaughter on Saturday, and I think we made their whole year. They were soooo happy to live long enough to see a great grandchild, they couldn't stop talking about it.

Thanks for all the good thoughts and PD.
What wonderful news!

Tim Gunn and I obviously have very different tastes. I think the dresses he chose are nice, but for me there were some gorgeous ones that were left out. I still think the DDA ladies were the best dressed!
