anyone have any tips to deal with nausea?
I tried a soda and toast so far with no luck.

for me, cherry 7-UP or gingerale. My best remedy, however, is diet coke. My grandfather, who was a pharmacist, always gave us a teaspoon of coke syrup when we had tummy aches. It always worked, too, but it was so sweet. I find now, that diet Coke works for me! Good luck and I hope you feel better soon!

 I hate pointing out silly things like that because I CERTAINLY don't take the time to watch what I'm typing! :rotfl:

Me either, Jennifer, which is why I hesitated so long telling Clare. But I figured she would eventually find out and didn't want her coming back to us and saying, "Blimey! You guys should have told me!"

Elin - thank you for keeping up with June for us!!

Jennifer - would you like one of my phenergans? Run on over and you can have one - but only one b/c I really need them!!

I would rank my pain around a 7 today - when I get near the end of a pain pill - I KNOW!! I have no appetite - hey - maybe I will lose a few pounds - yes -I am at this point looking for the positives as I see no way that my knee will EVER feel better!!

I do have this really cool ice pack though - it looks like a cooler and there is cold water and ice in it - it has tubes that go to a bandage on my knee and about once a minute pumps ice cold water into a tube system over my knee - it is so awesome!!

Lots of swelling - minimal bruising - lots of pain!!! and I am bored - but making lots of headway on Nicks scrapbook!!

Oh, Kate! I'm so sorry you are having so much pain! Try to remember that it will go away! My mom had both her knees replaced, and the first few days after the surgeries were just horrible, but after that, the pain went away, and she eventually was glad that she had them done. Just keep up the phenergan!

Boredom is the worst! Can you watch some good movies while you are working on Nick's book? If I were closer, I'd drop by with some ice cream and yummy cookies! You could always send Steve out for some, and I'll virtually share with you!

I'm thinking about you a lot and praying for a speedy recovery! Take care of yourself!

Thanks!!

he stocked up on all my favorites yesterday!! Everything tastes bad though! So I don't want to waste it on the good ice cream!! ;)

He is being so great - I camped out on our bed with scrapbooking stuff and he is downstairs watching football (I guess that is a bonus for him) I can't even move my leg without help today - I have a pretty high threshhold of pain - when I had my breast reduction - they kept coming in and trying to give me pain meds but I didn't need them - the nurse told my mom she could not believe my threshhold of pain - and again when I had my c-sections I was told the same things!!! So he knows that it must be bad b/c I have broken down crying from the pain several times!

All I have to do is call him and he comes right away! I did manage to eat the donuts - so he offered to go get more - I had some jello earlier and some popcorn -

I keep telling myself the pain will go away soon - if my kidney stones were the worst pain I ever had at a 10 -I would give this an 8! and I totally was NOT prepared for that!

plus I know in a few days it will be better - eventually putting me back to better than I was - so I hate to complain about it at all!!!!

Hi everyone!

Things are finally calming down here, so I thought I'd post what I hope is our final update before we go home!

They took Caroline off the antibiotics yesterday and removed her IV early this morning. She's had really good feedings over the past 2 days. She's still spitting up, but it's much, much better. They thickened her formula even more and she's now on the maximum dosage of Reglan that they can give her. The Zantac is definitely working because she's not crying after feedings now.

We had the first part of our Infant CPR training this morning and we'll finish up this evening. A nurse from Home Health came with our monitor and trained us on it. Caroline is now on this monitor rather than the NICU monitor, so tonight will be a test run for us before we leave the hospital. She'll wear it 24/7 for the next 3-4 weeks.

We've also been to the pharmacy for our medicine "training".

She weighed 6.11 lbs last night so she's now exceeded her birth weight. The dr said he wants us to feed her on demand now rather than waking her up every 3 hours for feedings. We'll probably average every 4 hours now, so we'll get a bit more sleep.

Other than updating her medical condition, I've never really posted much about Caroline herself. She's a very sweet baby :cloud9: . As the jaundice wears off she's starting to become more alert. For a while there we wondered if we'd ever see her with her eyes open for more than 3 seconds.

She was pretty jaundiced in the picture I posted, so I'll try to take some new pictures once we get home. Within the next few weeks I hope to get my hair cut and colored and I may even post a picture of myself  . I hear some of you are doubting my existence... ;)

Dawn -

I am so happy to hear good news about your sweet little girl!!!

Sounds like the doctors are great and really on top of things and giving you the tools you need to take care of her!!

Take care of yourself! I have talked to you on the phone so I know you exist - but I would like to see a picture!!!

Dawn -- thanks for such an uplifting update! Sounds as if your precious baby girl is in wonderful hands and progressing very well. I can't wait to see pictures of her at home with your whole family. Sounds like you are better prepared to deal with all the possibilities now too. That is just wonderful! :)

Use your ice pack religiously, you'll be glad you did, it will keep the swelling to a minimum. My oldest daughter dislocated her knee in cheerleading, the bones were actually beside each other rather than end to end, and we had the same setup for her. Hang in there, the pain will get better, but for now keep taking your pain meds, don't wait until you're really hurting to take them either.

I came in to get away from the chaos outside, we have holes all in the yard,
right now they are gone to get the parts to hopefully fix the problem, if that is not the problem then it is the water companies problem and they will have to take care of it.

Great news about Caroline, Elin I'm sorry to hear about your water problems, I feel your pain.

I'll check back later,
Debbie

My problems are minimal, Debbie! Hope yours are soon taken care of!

Feel free to complain! I don't mind at all! I'm sure that this is a really hard thing to deal with! You are always so "go get 'em" that to be on enforced rest with pain of an 8 thrown in has got to be difficult!

I'm sure the ice cream will be there when you do feel like it. Thank heaven Steve is such a good guy! I'll worry less about you knowing that he's there taking such good care of you! Let me know if you need anything, though!

Oh, Dawn! What good news! I'm just so thrilled that all is looking up for you and for Caroline! You sound more like your old self, today! That says a lot about how Caroline is doing! I can't wait to see a new picture of her.

Katie was terribly jaundiced, too! It sure was a sight to see her so yellow and still. Thankfully, it went away without any lights, but it was queer!
