Glynis,

I would love some suggestions, either here or via PM. Thanks!

I forgot to respond to this earlier...I would also love book suggestions. When other people suggest things, it's often something I wouldn't have thought of myself.

Vicki- Is your Girl Scout council one of them that offers the Mackinac Island Honor Scout Program?

I have wanted to go to Mackinac Island since I saw it on an episode of Extreme Makeover Home Edition. The family stayed there for the 7 days. The husband and wife went there for their honeymoon and all they could afford was to eat lunch there. I thought it was so cool that got to return for a whole week there with their family.

Our council does not host it. The council in the Northern Lower Peninsula is the host. Of course, we have lots of girls from the UP that have participated in it. My oldest wanted to but the schedule interfered with other things that summer. It is a neat program.

If anyone ever has an opportunity to go the Island, it is an awesome experience. I want to spend my 25th anniversary there. Kate, you don't have to cross that awful thing to go to the Island. There are boat launches both in the UP and the LP. You would have to see the bridge though as it has a pretty impressive presence.

I see Jennifer has been paying attention!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was wondering if you'd be able to avoid looking too closely at the picture. Then, Vicki had to go and throw in the description to make things worse. Maybe she's just trying to distract you. :confused3

That is so funny

I saw a little girl a few weeks ago that I thought looked like Terra and had to do a double take

how funny that we know each others kids well enough that we want think we see them!!!

And I thought it was just me! I saw a Rees look-a-like last weekend.

It looks like Terra and I will fly out sometime around Aug 15. We are living with my parents for awhile until we get settled/money saved/etc. My other main reason for wanting to do that is to give my poor mom a break. I will get to take over the cooking, cleaning, pool and yard work for awhile as well as try to get her basement and garage cleaned out. Mom works at a grocery store, plus watches my sister's kids on the days she is off. Add to that trying to keep up with a 10yo at 50+yo and she's a little tired. More so, just doesn't have any free time to do the things she wants to do both alone and with my sister. I, luckily, don't have to look for a job. I am get to go back to staying home with Terra! And will also watch my sister's kids. We're working out a deal where she pays me a little less than she would the current babysitter saving her some money and giving me some Disney money. Phil is going to find a job as soon as we get there. Once we get settled to I am going to look into a few work at home ideas that I have had over the last few years to see if I can get something going for myself as well.
Tia -

that sounds wonderful!!!!!

So who had 43210?

Tia, I'm glad that things are working out for your move. I'm disappointed that we won't get to meet before you move. I guess we'll have to meet at WDW sometime :thumbsup2

Kate. I hope that everything goes well for Nick tomorrow. Hopefully they will be able to give you a report of somekind tomorrow so that you don't have to wait too much longer. :grouphug: :wizard:

Amy. Where are the pictures? I can't wait to see the little guy.

Thanks for asking that, Deb. I figured I had missed it in the past week!

Welcome back, Elin!! I hope you had a great time. You didn't miss anything really. I had just kind of narrowed down the date a few days ago. I forgot a couple of lines in the response to Deb so I'll finish it now...After Terra and I fly out, Phil will stay here for another week or two to enjoy the peace and quiet before submersing himself in my crazy (and loud!, but in a good way :thumbsup2 ) family. He will then load up the stuff that we end up taking and haven't already shipped and meet ups with us Labor Day weekend probably.

I have had luggage not make connecting fllights before. Luckily they were all on the way home. In my carry on bag I always carry what I will need for at least the first 24 hours of my trip. Meds, toiletries, a change of clothing or two and anything else that I know I will need.

Also in case of lost luggage I often switch pack with someone else. Meaning half my stuff goes in there suitcase and the other half is in mine. Half of their stuff is in my suitcase and the other half is in theirs. I even did this with friends when I flew on trips in high school and college as we wanted to ensure we had stuff in case our stuff was really delayed. Luckily I have never needed it but others on some of those trips lost there suitcase and some only had the clothing on there back and their carry on which did not contain any "essentials". They had to attempt to go shopping in our pre-planned busy schedule, not fun at all.

You will probably be fine but I highly suggest you take the stuff you might need for the 1st 24 hours in your carry-on.

Thanks, Becky! I had planned on doing that...I guess things are just starting to worry me about this trip.

Good night all! I will have to catch up tomorrow. The bed is calling my name. My eyes just cannot stay open any longer!

that's a perfect plan -

let's keep kate distracted by giving her a panic attack!!! :lmao:

Dr. McDreamy is on now - so that is working pretty well!!!

I loved the movie Can't Buy me Love!

So, I just found out that my best friend is almost definitely moving to LA.

Free accomodations at Disneyland :teeth:

but really far away :sad2:

Do you think it would be fair to talk her and her husband out of the job offers, just to stay closer to me? And by closer, I already mean south carolina -- so it's not like she's THAT close as it is! I think she owes it to me to not go any farther, what do you thinK? ;)

I have a theory that once you get farther than a 4 hour drive, it really doesn't matter how far away you live (continental US of course). After that, I'm flying anyway. So, by that theory she might as well live somewhere fun (aka DL!!). Does that help? :confused3

I think I'm off to bed too. I got a Jodi Picoult book, Vanishing Acts, that I want to start. I haven't read any of her books, but have heard great things about her. She lives in a town that is about 15 miles from here. My SIL says that she talks about a lot of landmarks that I will recognize. Keep it down to a dull roar unless you're helping Kate keep her mind occupied then by all means chat away.

I'm way back, but had to show you my July 4th shopping haul.....

I got the comforter to match my curtains....

Naughty, naughty, but oh so worth it! My room is painted the color of Mickey's shoes and before I hung the drapes and got the new comforter, I was seriously considering repainting. Now I'll just add another coat of paint....

So seriously folks, who is over the edge more? :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

:rotfl: :rotfl: I actually understood the drawing.

My panels will not be stationary. I'll be opening and closing them every day. I'm lining them with blackout lining so it will be dark for naptime. Having said that, what I was/am worried about is when I move them back and forth, the edges that are just turned down and not sewn/tacked down would unfold and become exposed if I didn't sew/tack them down. It appears that your valance is stationary and you don't have to worry about this. I think I'll have to stitch mine so I don't have to worry about it. The stitching won't affect the opening at all, it will keep the fabric from unfolding.

Am I making sense?

I forget what the drawing showed, but what about hemming each side of the curtain first so that you have a stable inside for the continuous opening/closing. Then after hemming, put the two sides together right sides together and sew them as you planned. Would that help or am I misunderstanding the questions/directions/whole situation?

The interesting thing is I found out about the Honor Girl Scout program on the Disboards. I never knew about it before. About a month or two after I learned about it on the Disboards, I read about it on a Girl Scout listserv. I found it ironic that I needed the Dis to inform me of this program.
