Vicki, I love the pictures. How long is the bridge?

Five miles! Here is an excerpt from an article from the official site:

The five-mile bridge, including approaches, and the world's longest suspension bridge between cable anchorages, had been designed by the great engineer Dr. David B. Steinman. Merritt-Chapman & Scott Corporation's $25,735,600 agreement to build all the foundations led to the mobilization of the largest bridge construction fleet ever assembled. The bridge opened to traffic on November 1, 1957 according to schedule, despite the many hazards of marine construction over the turbulent Straits of Mackinac.

I saw that when Becky quoted me. I can't believe how many typos I've been making! I usually reread everything at least twice before posting and still miss things like this until someone quotes me. I would say that I was going to say fall off her chair and changed my mind to fell on the floor and only changed part of the message!

Thanks

I am okay RIGHT NOW! That mood may change as the night progresses

Steve leaves town on Tuesday so he has to be at work tomorrow - so I am going to be alone at the hospital (my mom is out of town and MIL will have Julia)

So that is making me a little bit nervous -

I just REALLY hope that I have been worrying about nothing for the past 3 weeks!!

Lots of prayers and :grouphug: and :wizard: for tomorrow. Know that we are all wit you in spirit and in prayer. You won't be alone, they just won't let all of the DDA in the hospital with you so this is what we do instead. :grouphug:

Vicki

I believe - but I could be wrong -

that I have discussed my EXTREME and I mean EXTREME fear of bridges

including panic attacks when I see pictures of the golden gate bridge

I skipped past the bridge pictures a few minutes ago - but you had your post cleverly disguised with no picture or warning

cue Kate's panic attack
:teeth:

I absolutely love all the PM pictures from Robyn, Vicki and Terry. How much fun are these guys having??

Kate... good luck tomorrow with Nick. I saw a little guy on the beach yesterday that looked so much like Nick with his new haircut that I did a double take!

Well, it's been a long day and I'm off to bed. Terra and I spent the day at a Watermelon Festival hosted by Life is Good. It was a fundraiser for a great non-profit. We played yard games, listened to bands and of course ate watermelon. We also went on a cow hunt trying to find some of the 117 Cow Parade cows around town. I think we got about 15 today so there are plenty to go. So guess what our mission is before we move...

Hope everyone has a good Sunday. I've got to start sorting and packing since it looks like we're moving in about 5 weeks.

Nite all!!

Tia I hadn't realized that you had a moving date yet. When is the big day? Have you found a job, house. Give us the low down.

Deb

Kate -- sent you a PM re: Children's, check it tonight please (if you can find it!) :)

That is so funny

I saw a little girl a few weeks ago that I thought looked like Terra and had to do a double take

how funny that we know each others kids well enough that we want think we see them!!!

Where do you stay down there, Elin? Do you get a condo or a house?

So, I just found out that my best friend is almost definitely moving to LA.

Free accomodations at Disneyland :teeth:

but really far away :sad2:

Do you think it would be fair to talk her and her husband out of the job offers, just to stay closer to me? And by closer, I already mean south carolina -- so it's not like she's THAT close as it is! I think she owes it to me to not go any farther, what do you thinK? ;)

Sorry Kate! I didn't realize your panic attacks included pictures of bridges! You would be one of those people that have to stop and have the bridge authority staff drive you across. There is a PBS special about the bridge and part of it is about all the different kinds of vehicles & people that have to be driven across. Some of the employees have driven Harley's (while the big burly biker was driven in a bridge vehicle), tractor-trailers, etc. across. One lady lay in the floor of her back seat while she was being driven across by a bridge employee crying hysterically the whole way. So you aren't alone in your fear.

Here's some pixiedust: that your panic attack doesn't last long.

Kate - Bridge Warning! No picture! (My mother is deathly afraid of bridges as well! She almost passed out from hyperventilating from traveling as a passenger in a car on the lower level of the Golden Gate.)

I thought this was an interesting tidbit when I visited Jacksonville for work a few years ago!
Jacksonville has 7, yes 7 bridges that cross the St John's River into their downtown, which is on both sides of the river. Each bridge is a different color, and is lighted a different color at night.
Their main bridge is HUGE, not Upper MI huge, but big enough. When they built the Jacksonville Cruise Port for Carnival and Princess Cruise Lines, the city could only allow certain ships into the port. Why? Because when the river/ocean is at low tide (and only low tide) there is only a few FEET that seperate the bottom of the bridge and the top of the ship! If anyone ever leaves on a Carnival Cruise out of Jacksonville, ask to see the photo in the VIP lounge, and be sure to be on deck when you travel under the Blue Bridge!
