The Days Go By At A Snail's Pace *An Aug. 2014 PTR* FINISHED

PTR Part Twenty: I Have Never Needed A Vacation More

We leave in 3 days!! I couldn't be happier!!

The good: You may recall that back in June I was let go from my position as a high school English teacher. Monday I got a text message from the principal of the school I subbed at two years ago telling me that she had a position open for a 7th grade English teacher and wanted me to come in. So Wednesday morning I went in and had a short interview with her. She told me she wanted me to do a mini-lesson with some summer school kids so this morning I went in and did a ten minute lesson on transition words with the kids and was asked for references (it's hard because most of my references are from that school so I had to think of people that didn't work there). So, fingers crossed because I adore that school and the kids there are all great!

Also we did some great bargain shopping at the Merrimack and Wrentham Disney Outlets. Our best find was this:

This is a $70 Disneyland windbreaker that was on the $14.99 rack but after buying it we realized it was actually $9.99. Best deal ever! We went back to Merrimack the next day with my mother so she could get one and we bought one for Jem's mum too. I also got a cute pair of Disneyland sweatpants and four t-shirts all for under $25. What a great purchase! My mum ended up buying me a $13 Happily Ever After shirt that they sell in the outlets that I've wanted for a while as a thank you for driving her up to Merrimack and down to Wrentham and buying lunch (at Friendly's so not at all worth a t-shirt lol) which was nice of her :)

The stressful: Oh, my god.

When we went to the Residence Inn on Sunday the girl at the front desk almost refused to let us check in. See, apparently there was paperwork that our apartment complex never sent the Marriott company allowing their credit card to be charged. This is after a battle to have them pay for the rooms to begin with (they were $700 rooms and after a year of dealing with this farce we weren't paying for it). When the girl at the desk asked for JEM'S card (she checked in first) Jem got very upset. So much so that the girl walked away to get her manager and fixed it for us.

Oh, did I mention this is two days after a gas leak in our building thanks to the builders fixing the cracked foundation in our building because they planted a rhododendron too close to the building? Because that happened Friday afternoon while we were trying to get ready for my friend's wedding.

Also they didn't put us in ONE room like they said they would, but TWO. The girl managed to put us right around the corner from one another because we were sharing food. It was a bit of a madhouse because of a figure skating competition going on. Ugh, and one dad kept making really callous jokes about the tornado that hit Revere the day after it happened. The one that made us get up and walk away in disgust was "what, did it just hit some trailer park or something? Hur, hur, hur." No, dude, it THANKFULLY hit a 200-year-old municipal building and was right down the street from one of Jem's closest friends and near-miss would have touched down right at the house we had just moved her mother out of a few days earlier.

So we got back to our apartment around 6-ish yesterday afternoon (we had gone to my parents' house so my mum and I could figure out a short enough lesson for me to do today and because we had to check out of the hotel by noon and couldn't come back to our apartment until after five so we had dinner with them and came home). Guys...our living room and dining room are done!!!! But...

That's our ceiling in our kitchen, which was part of the plan for them to do in the days we were out of the apartment. And yes, it is moldy.

Jem emailed (and then I emailed, but then stopped emailing when Jem told me she had already emailed) and sent it to our complex manager as well letting them know that this was still there and that he had pulled the paint off of one of our windows as well without fixing it.

This afternoon they called asking if they could come in while we were at work tomorrow but I missed the call. So I called back maybe 20 minutes later and said that we were on school vacation right now but hey, I have a better plan - starting Monday we won't be in the apartment for a week so why don't they just come sometime next week to fix the last little bit and everyone will be happy? Sure, the woman on the phone says, that's great!

Sure enough, about two and a half hours later while Jem was leaving to go to her mum's to do laundry our complex manager stops her in the parking lot (she was coming to our apartment specifically) and asks her a) why we didn't have them do all the work while we were gone and b) did our maintenance manager know we were going to be gone? You know, like he was somehow in cahoots with us about our vacation. I have no idea what Jem said to her but I know Jem was pissed at how childish she was being. The reason why we didn't do this when we were in Disney? Because when we're in Disney it'll be a year since this entire debacle began and they were supposed to have fixed our ceiling in May.

Our manager was supposed to come into our apartment but didn't even step foot into our building. I know because I was standing there watching her through the window (I had happened to turn off the AC because I was freezing but our apartment still needs to air out from the work they did so I had to open the door to the porch to let the air in and happened to see them talking).

Ugh. I'm still shaking mad. I've never seen a person and have just thought the word "twit" like I do with her. I wrote a very, very long letter to the company that owns our complex but I've not yet sent it. I had Jem and her mum read over it and she did suggest we edit it down a bit (I wrote everything blow-by-blow style just because I needed to rant somehow) and we don't want to send it until everything is done so we can add anything else if we need to.
