Today this "blockbuster" of a film was released to DVD, so I had to rent the movie that Algore described as a "must see". What I liked about it? The special effects. What I thought was ridiculous? The rest of the movie. Of course there wasn't an agenda. The Vice President just "happened" to look like Dick Cheney and of course, the Sec'y of State? or should I say the "enlightened" woman in the evil administration had a striking resemblance to Nancy Pelosi. I don't know what was funnier; the flash freeze scenes that made one wonder if everyone had been dipped in liquid nitrogen, the outside camping when there seemed to be plenty of buildings in which to pitch a tent or the wolves on the prowl in New York City. Of course the premise that Texax would be that much colder than Mexico, just south of the boarder was pretty funny too. It definately gets one of the worst movies of the year award. I am saving first place for Michael Moores fiction piece.

So basically this movie is a liberal conspiracy too?

Why am I not shocked you feel this way!?!?!

Hey I thought it was an okay movie! It wasn't meant to be political!

Its not the best movie I've seen but it kept me interested at least.

dawn, you have GOT to be kidding me.

ummmm, it' s just a movie, it's not real, just like Independence Day was a movie and just like JFK was a movie... it's entertainment.

I love disaster movies, the Day After was OK but the ending was a little too preachy.

I just thought it was an obvious attempt to throw in a lot of special effects just to make a mediocre movie. I never knew they were sending me subliminal messages.

And here I am fresh out of tin foil.

But Independence Day was an ENTERTAINING movie. This was a silly movie and yes, I think it was meant to be political or Algore wouldn't have declared it a "must see".

Huh... I went to this move when a whole group picked what to see... I wasn't expecting much, but I was pleasantly surprised. Yep a bit "preachy" in the end, but corny me actually loved it. I guess I didn't see anything political in it... just kept me entertained and I actually plan to buy this one for our collection.
btw, I don't think I fit very well into the "true liberal" category... just someone who watched a movie for entertainment value alone ;)
and as an aside... and flame me for this if you like... try calling him Al Gore! I think that is a bit disrespectful to do that to a former VP... and maybe he liked it for the same reasons I did.... who knows...

We saw it with two other couples and our kids, so count us as 10 others who saw nothing political in it.

If it was meant to be political I think it missed its point!

Dick Cheney's twin? You decide 2004! LOL (BTW, his name is Kenneth Welsh.)

I guess so! You mean you missed the part when the 'evil' vice president, when confronted about the fragile environment responded with "the economy is fragile too". And the reference to the US not signing on to the Kyoto Accords?

Isn't it funny how some people can find a conspiracy in almost anything? Now, if you want to talk about movies that had not very subtle political messages, how about Red Dawn and Wag The Dog.

Okay, I'll admit I never saw the movie, so maybe I am missing something here, but several have mentioned that it was too "preachy" but it wasn't political.

What was the "preachy" part about?

He stumped for the movie, hoping it would stimulate serious conversation on Global Warming.

Perhaps they are just trying to reflect the time period in which the movie is set?

preachy in a people are ruining the planet kind of way, but definitely not in a political way. at least i sure didn't pick up on that and neither did dh, and we are both big political conspiracy theorists. ;)

honestly, i seriously do not think there was any kind of political message in it. a message about the environment, yeah. but an anti-bush message. that's more than a stretch. :space:

I don't know guys, I think maybe the rodent scenes were a direct slam on Mickey Mouse and indirectly ABC for their pro conservative leanings.

Well if we're talking about bashing Mickey Mouse as opposed to the currend administration, that's a whole different ballgame. lol:teeth: :teeth: :teeth:

Hmm, I may have to rent the movie to see what other subtext I missed the first time.
