The DaVinci Code

I have, I have read all of his books. I personally thought A&D was a little better, but Deception Point his is crowning achievment at this point. Besides, I do believe that science and religion can work together, it is just that we have not reached that point to do that in a rational matter. Carbon dating has proved the Dead Sea Scrolls to be accurately aged to the times of the Old Testament. Many scholars believed the Bible was false as it mentioned cities and rulers that were never heard of before, and lo and behold, they were found. And I am not quite sure if I believe it or not, but the Torah Code would be very difficult to decipher without modern computers. ( the Torah in Hebrew apparently creates words not just in linear ways , but diagonally and up and down that supposedly mention Hitler and 9/11 among others )
I know I kind of contradicted myself, but to further create a binding of sorts with religion and science, we are a way off.

The reason the DV Code is taken off as fact, is that little disclaimer at the beginning of the book. People actually buy it. Dan Brown in past interviews says he believes everything he wrote and would do it again. People are very naive and believe him. Most people understand it is fiction, but some still do not.

Ok, now these are a bit of topic.

First bold: There was this Muslim doctor/prof. who tried to figure out why we could believe in religion and science. I doubt anyone has heard of him, but he was Maimonides. (my-mon-u-dez)

2) Among those, some others believe in there it said the world would end 6/6/06 and there would be two other terrorist attack on the same... longitude of somewhere. (Some thought Atlanta was next)

I think Dan Brown is a horrible author. Reading his books is like trying to pack more grey matter into my brain.

I started reading it last year and about half-way through I got really bored. I'm thinkin about reading it again though.

I see the torah code like I do Nostradamus, hindsight. If these things were really said in there, how come they were not mentioned until after the fact. Who knows, it is still a very interesting topic to research and such.

Exactly.

Well.. I just saw the movie at 9:45 last night. It was fairly good, but I fail to see how some people could think this was real. The ideas in the movie were too far fetched to ever be considered real. The movie was a good movie, but in the opinion of some, a heretical deciphering of our faith. But some of the practices in the movie were something I hope never happened or will happen.

I never doubted that the movie would be good, I only doubted whether or not some people would watch it. (There were only 6 people in the theater other than me and my brother.)

Too bad Silas was killed off, he was a great aspect of the movie.

I loved the DaVinci Code, I read it in 2 days. Now, I'm not a religous person and I don't claim to be so I'm in no place to debate the authenticity of the book. But regardless of whether it's true or false, I found it fascinating.

I just started reading Angels & Demons and it does seem exactly like the DaVinci Code so far except it's more scientific than religous. (Don't hold me to that though..I'm only on page 119)

I thought the same thing, but I believe that A&D came out before DV Code.
Self flagellation does happen. On Ripley's once, they showed this village in Mexico where they would do a miniature crucifixion of sorts. They wouldn't kill themselves, maybe do it for 20 minutes. I think that may take it too far, but who am I to judge.

It happened in the middle ages often, people were said to be trying to beat the sin out of themselves.

I know Angels & Demons came out first. It's just that I read the DaVinci Code before Angels & Demons so it's going to sound backwards when I compare the two..

Sorry the way you phrased that misled me. Sorry for the confusion.

It's funny to me how controversial the claim that he married is. The people that go out and protest against this book and movie, are the same people who believe that Jesus walked on water, turned water to wine, and was blond haired, blue eyed.

Throughout history, people have sacrificed their comfort and even each other to please their god(s). Self-flagellation was common in the middle ages because of disasters like the Black Death. Many people thought it was a punishment from God, and tried to cleanse their sins by beating themselves. Also, especially in times of famine and drought, the ancient Aztecs sacrificed members of the royal family to appease the gods. They thought this would encourage the gods to send rain.

I know shocking isn't it?! :rolleyes2 I don't know where those last two came from.

Oh wait it is not just the Christians either.http://www.rediff.com/movies/2006/may/17sfa.htm
Thise last two came from the fact that he wasn't white, when he has been depicted as such throughout the ages.

BTW, muslims hold a different beliefs. They believe that their prophets, jesus being one of them, were men of god, and therefore celibant.

I know, that would be really silly for Jesus to be white in the middle east. I still don't see how that is relevant to this topic.

And the Muslims I brought up because he is their prophet and not only the Christians are upset over this claim. I am pretty certain they didn't think he was white. lol I have also known about the prophet thing for a long time.
The way your post put it, only the Christians were offended, but the Muslims were too.

I finally read the DaVinci Code, after years of everyone telling me to read it! I LOVED it. A lot. I read it in a day and a half, and thought it was very action-packed and exciting. It was fun trying to figure out all of the codes myself. I then watched the movie, and it was HORRIBLE. Really bad. It followed the book well, but it was too slow-paced, and just boring.

Anyway, I can see hot the book could be controversial, but it really shouldn't be. It's a BOOK. Take it or leave it, it's just a story. And the disclaimer at the begining? Not true. I've watched so many specials on the DaVinci Code on the History, Discovery and Travel channels, and really learned some interesting things. On a show called "Digging For the Truth" a man found the remains of the family in which was thought to be the descendants of Jesus and Mary Magdalen, the Merogivian family. They compared the DNA of the remains to the DNA of typical Muslims living in the Middle East, and there was no match. While it's not 100% accurate, the family believed to be the decendants of Jesus and Mary Magdalen most likely are not.

The most interesting thing I learned, though, was that the Priory of Sion was created in 1956. NINETEEN-FIFTY-SIX. Obviously many years after the days of Da Vinci. The creator of the Priory wanted to give the society more depth, so he created fake documents (including a completely made-up list of famous Scion members of the past) in order to make the society look more legit. He later admitted that none of it was true. So, while Da Vinci and other great artists, poets, and authors of the past may have been part of religious-based secret society's, they weren't in the Priory of Sion.

by Pierre Plantard a con artist, who forged the Dossiers and stuck them in the Bibilioteque in France and tried to claim he was part of the Merogivian bloodline.

Well, the lie was perpetuated by the catholic church until people caught on, so isn't it perfectly plausible that jesus was in love with a woman. And, I know that I'll never make any headway in this argument just looking at your sig.

BTW, jesus was ONE of their prophets. Muhhammmed being the one they regard as the "best" for lack of a better word. But, that is not the issue. The overwhelming majority of people who protested were christians.Back to my original point, if he can walk on water, why can't he love a woman? Doesn't your beloved bible tell you he preaches love? Makes sense. Hypocrisy only rivaled by the GOP.
