Yep, the most controversial book of this year. I just finished it and I was wondering what other teenagers thought about it.

I think that the Mary Magdalene and Jesus part was so stupid. Jesus would have never gotten married on Earth. I think that Leigh being the bad guy after Robert and Sophie trusted him was really horrible.

I also think that Silas was the one that killed Jacques and the other three men.

Umm... I haven't read it yet, but I'm dying to! My libraries don't have them! *Frantically searches for Da Vinci Code*

Well, we might never know. The bible doesn't point to this, nor does it ever say he didn't.... Just speculation! I believe in God, but there are hidden truths in the bible.

That being said, Leo, I believe that Jesus would not have got married because Jesus didn't need to be married. Besides, could you imagin being married to God? After all the trinity says that Jesus is God and the Holy Spirit.

Bible study is now over, well, for now anyway.

Hey! Someone remembers my name!

Back on subject: I know, it seems completely impossible, but some people want to believe it. I really don't care, but as my religion teachers have pointed out, Jesus had more important things on his mind than a wife....

I made a list, lol, I added it to my documents. :rotfl2:

I'm not sure I want to see the movie, seems to strange. I think that Leigh Teabing is a lieing idiot, though. He could have been happy, but no, he tries to kill two people and did kill one, Remy.

I've seen the movie (btw, this book wasn't published this year. you said book of the year, I was under the impression that it was published soem time ago)

The movie was good. but people need to remember IT IS FICTION!! It was written as fiction and it will always be fiction. It is meant to be read as fiction. that passage in the front that said it is historical fiction is false. most of the documents used in writing it were quoted falsely.

It was published in 2003. I was calling it the book of the year because of all the attention it's getting this year.

We just had a discussion on this book. Do a search once in a while please.

Actually the single thread that holds this entire book up, the Priory of Sion is false. It was created in 1962 so Pierre Plantard could make an easy scam. Also in the Gnostics where he says the whole marriage to Jesus is based off of is on the word Companion, which in the language used, means friend. Btw, it is not the fact that it is fiction, it is the fact that Dan Brown goes around toting it as truth and ppl believe him.

I recently read his other books, and he didn't even try on this one. I thought it was a copy of Angels and Demons, just not quite as controversial. Deception Point was his greatest work I think. And the movie was good brain, it just depends on one's tastes.

I am sorry if this is hard to understand, I have trouble putting my thoughts in order sometimes.

Okay. Even though this has been discussed COUNTLESS times, I'll reply. I really think Dan Brown just abused the Mary & Jesus deal so he would make money.

Personally, I wouldn't care whether Mary Magdalene and Jesus were a couple. And I really can't see why any of you would care?

By the way, Saxsoon, have you read any of the Gnostics?

I plan too. As soon as I get my hands on them. I have seen a verse out of it though that made absolutly no sense, and no one around me understood it either. It is funny, Dan Brown claims that the Gnostics don't believe in Jesus' humanity, when in fact it is the exact opposite. They believe anything of the flesh is evil. But yes I agree that he did this to make money. Anyone who has read Angels and Demons can see the paralleling story lines between the two. I personally liked A&D more. It is when you throw in the validity of Christianity into a book, you have an instant best seller.

Why I think most people care, is that Jesus/God has slept with a sinner. No matter how you look at that that would raise questions in one's mind as to if that man/woman is really who they say they are. It would be falling for temptation. I think C.S. Lewis put it really fine words. I am paraphrasing. Jesus didn't leave us a choice. He was either who he said he was and was God in the flesh, or a man, a good man, but a man nonetheless.

And Munky, while it is true it was frowned upon a Jewish man, there were whole sub-groups of Judaism that practiced celibacy. Also bachelorhood could be granted by the rabbis. Many of the great prophets were celibate, and in early on in his ministry, Jesus was considered just that.

I'm not Munky.

BTW, the Gnostics really don't have much to do with Christianity. I was just wondering if you had read them because they do pose many questions to think about.

Thanks for your viewpoint.

i dont understand what the devinci code is like i dont understand anything about it lol. it doesnt really interest me...o well

I know you are not Munky, I was stating to a post he made earlier. The Gnostics were brought up a lot in this simulcast I saw once. Btw, to me, it shouldn't matter even then, because God did create love for us. It is just in today's society that sex has been turned into an ugly thing because of STD's and all of the cheating that goes on in most marriages. If Jesus found a way to still be Holy and marry Mary, then so be it. No pun intended.

I thought you might have been quoting Munky, but I just didn't see any of his posts in this thread...

First of all, you might want to try reading Angels and Demons . It really opens your eyes to how science and religion really can work together. After I read it, I thought for a long time about how the universe is God.
Also, when reading The da Vinci Code, remember that IT IS FICTION!!!!!!! Most of the book's claims have already been disputed, and everyone should see it as an excellently written thriller but NOT A HISTORY BOOK. Also, I feel that most people forget that the people who wrote the Bible wrote so that they (NOT US) could comprehend it.
