The Dance Mom Thread

It's hard to get a read on this girl, as to which she really feels. I told DD to wait and see how this week goes and if she is still complaining and making comments that she's gonna mess up, then we'll call the teacher and talk to her. Only 1 of the girls has made the comment about messing up, the other was just complaining about having to do last years dance.

Jen-

Sorry about all the jealous mean girl stuff. Its really unfortunate, if they keep talking about messing up I would bring it to the teacher's attention. Maybe those two girls need to have a few extra "practices" to get it right, ;) . BTW the pictures are too cute!

HI Everyone,
I have never posted on this thread. I found it the other day. Now I have a mini crisses and I thought you might be able to help.

Jean-

First, Welcome! Secondly, I would go on your trip. You were told she wouldn't dance orginally and you should stick with that. I know its hard when they want to and its such an honor but family time is important. I would talk to the coach though so this doesn't happen again.

-Becca-

Thanks Becca. Here is what I laid out. I am going to talk to the coach tomorrow or Sunday. The musical ends tomorrow night. I am going to find out if this is only competition or if there will be others and if so when. I am going to find out where this one is and what the hours are. We have the option of leaving Sat. night but I will keep that to myself. It means no Disney and no windsurfing for my DH (that might be more of a problem then the girls giving up Disney).

coinkc- Congrats on your daughter's progress

Thanks again. Jean

Hey Dance Moms....what is everyone getting there dancers for Christmas?? (related to dance....not everything else....LOL!!!!) My tween is getting a big Vera Bradley bag to use for her dance bag. But not sure of what else to get her pertaining to dance. I have already spent a fortune on the typical tween stuff....but always like to get her a little something pertaining to dance!!!!

Well for Christmas she is getting all of her Company Team wear- not the costumes but the optional stuff like tanks, sweats, windsuits, hoodies. She also is getting two Tia's tops. My DD loves Tia's Dancewear and it sure is cute but it gets rather pricey.

For her January birthday she is getting the Dream Duffel. She saw it on line and fell in love with it. She will be getting a few more Tia's outfits then too.

And there is always the I Tune Gift cards- she loves getting new music to dance to.

I know it's not the same kind of dance that most of your kids do, but it does also take a huge amount of time, money, work, etc....

My daughter has just recently moved into the preliminary championship level of competition and in her first feis (competition) at the higher level she WON!!!!!

I am SO incredibly proud of her and all her hard work! Her next big challenge is the regionals called the Oireachtas which is held over Thanksgiving weekend in Columbus, Ohio. Here's hoping all her dreams come true!
Congrats to your dd! My daughters are in Prizewinner, Novice-Prizewinner, and soon-Advanced-Beginner. We go to inexpensive, less competitive schools (just switched from one to another).

...and placing in prelim right away is a GREAT start! Good luck at Oireachtas. If you want, PM me your dd's name, initials, whatever and I'll watch the O results and root for her. At least one of my girls will be invited to O next year, but we can't afford it so I have to live vicariously. ;)

2 of my girls were invited to dance the Irish Dance segment of the travelling production, Magic Treehouse on Thanksgiving weekend. I agreed to allow it, and then found out each girl needs to wear a nude, basic leotard for under their costume. I am out of work, and can't run out to buy those...but don't want to pull my girls at this late date. Does anyone have leotards we can borrow? I can mail them back afterward, of course. The girls are about size 8 (girls), and size 1 (junior).

Daimondintheruff, Missipie,Milisypie-
Thanks for the input. This makes me crazy. DD is in the chorus, takes voice lessons, and does all the middle school plays and some of the high school plays, now the dance team and she figure skates. Not to mention school. LOL I try hard to keep her schedule straight including orthodontist, etc. Luckily I am retired and stay at home. DH works from home so he also helps. It makes me crazy that her coach did this to her and to us. It was so unnecessary. He tends to be over extended which is part of it. I am a lighting designer and worked in the professional dance, theatre and opera world out east for a very long time. You can not survive in that world without being super organized and on schedule. Otherwise you are in union overtime which no one can afford. I think in the educational dance, theater, etc people wear too many hats and it makes their brains rattle.

I looked into flying out on Dec 13. We would give up DW. I can give our friends who are coming with us the MVMCP tickets and the other tickets I can just save. We would two choices: be on the plane by 4 pm on Dec 13 to fly all the way to MCO or we could fly to DAL at 7 pm on Dec 13, take a car service to DFW hotel and then fly out of DFW to MCO first thing in the am Dec, 14 This seems insane to me. (We are older parents and while this affords us the opportunity to travel a lot. I do not have a lot of energy for mad dashes across the country. LOL)

I honestly do not think DD wants to miss the trip. Had we known in a timely manner we could have scheduled this so we could do both. We could have waited until spring break or gone over New Years. OH well best laid plans of Mice and Men.

Thanks for the support and letting me vent. I am sure we are just going to stick to our plans.

Jeannie, I'm in NM too. What school is your DD at? Doesn't sound like any in Albuquerque, though my DD goes to Public Academy for Performing Arts which is 6th-12th. That's kind of unusual except for private schools.

I would vote for the family vacation. As others have said, she will have more opportunities to go to State. I can tell you that as she gets older (mine is a senior) it gets harder and harder to get away together. My DD missed a couple of extra days at school so we could take a long weekend over Fall break at WDW, and it got her in trouble in Math and on her job. Luckily, there were no dance conflicts!

Catching up on this thread, I think I posted toward the beginning. My 17 year old is on a community dance team this year, they do contemporary and hip hop, shows and competitions. She choreographed her school's contemporary ensemble group number for recital last year, the first student to choreo a group number ever. She's deciding what she wants to do in college right now, but I know she will continue dancing. Her boyfriend has been taking a lot of her time lately, and she has less than 10 hours a week at Starbucks (which she loves), so her life is changing for sure!

Since your daughter dances... do you know what 'Sate' is. I have no idea. Now that she is in middle school the parents are the last to know anything. I just found out last night that they added a performance of the middle school musical so now she has a performance on Sunday. Luckily another parent mentioned it to me since DD forgot to tell me. That is actually rare. I miss the emails and fliers of elementary school. LOL
I know a 7th a couple of kids at PAPA. A mom was recently talking to me about their fund raising needs. I will PM you about dd.

I think there should be an automatic 20 point deduction at competitons for every Company that turns its back to the audience, bends over and shakes their respective rear ends at us....30 points if the dancers are under 13.

Booty popping. My DD just did a show with the company she joined last year, and they did this in a Hip Hop number. I told her boyfriend, "I can see why she told you NOT to sit up front"! She is one of the youngsters in the company at 17, so I guess parents don't get much say.

I think State is the Cheer and Drill competitions, March or April I think. I wasn't aware that any schools here had actual dance teams, that's very cool. We are in El Dorado's district, and their drill team is very dance oriented and usually wins State. But DD still wanted PAPA.

After almost every competiton we get emails from other company member, "I lost one sock" "I can't find one glove..."

Still catching up, maybe this has been discussed to death. BUT when DD was in a younger competition company, most of the girls would bring a laundry hamper if they were in a lot of numbers, and at recital. When tearing off costume parts for a quick change, everything got thrown into the hamper. This worked great when she had recitals with two shows a day, I just went back in between and helped her get them all organized again.

I spoke with DD's coach yesterday. He said, "go on vacation." He understands. Esp since I told him in advance. He also said they were going to have a JV team, then not, and now they are so that is why DD can compete. I could change our plans and do the 11th hour trek from New Mexico to Orlando in December. Hoping Airports are not closed and flights not delayed. Also, what if the team configuration changes again. DD wants to compete. DH wants to stick to the schedule. I want to scream. Only kidding. Is hard as it is, I think we are going to pass on the competition and stick to our original plans.

Thanks for all the help with this. Jean

Okay Dance Moms what routines\songs is your dancer doing this year? Have you seen them yet? What are your feelings about them (love 'em\ hate 'em)?

DD's company modern is about eating disorders....reserving judgment on that one.

Whoa! How old is your DD? (I knew this but I have so forgotten!) I would be more than a little nervous about that one!

-Becca-

The company is mostly HS freshmen and sophomores, so it's not age inappropriate. What's kind of funny is that in the past year or so, most olf the girls have gotten pretty darned curvy....it's going to be hard to believe that any of them have ever passed up a cheeseburger....we kidded DD that their prop is going to be a toilet, but she was not amused.

Actually for that age it seems like an intresting idea. Something different for a change.

This year my DD6 is doing

Petite Lyrical Large Group- Every Season
I love, love, love this dance. It is so well done. 16 girls in the group, 4 in each season and it is just beautiful. They have this part where the winter girls cover the spring girls that makes me all teary eyed. Cat is Autumn and gets to hold her needle and also a small spotlight part. She is beyond thrilled.

Petite Jazz Large Group- Follow The Leader (Soca Boys)
I am not sure about this. I love the costumes though (Glamour costumes- hot pink with hanging silver beads). Honestly the song is just not a favorite of mine.

Petite Hip Hop Super Group- (Dirty) Pop
I was so excited about this song. I remember loving Nsync back in High School. The dance is very, very cute. Love it.

Production- Michael Jackson Mix
I have yet to see this but I am excited. They have 52 dancers between the ages of 5 to 17. Bless our Company Director I really do not know how she does it. They have practice every week for 90 mins all together and if it were me I would be bald from pulling my hair out but she is great.

-Becca-

The Company Production is a Bollywood number...it sounds great and it's killing DD because she just didn't have time to be in it this year.

I just found this thread. Too many pages to start from the beginning!!:scared1: (maybe I will go through it all later).

Just wondering.....anyone out there have a child in JFK? (Just For Kix?)
