OK, Since yesterday didn't happen- I plan to scrap for a while and see how mom feels today after her er visit yesterday. Happy 70th birthday Mommy :rotfl: Have a good day everyone!

It's been a long day. My poor Dad, he is emotionally drained and trying not to "burden" all of us kids (I'm the oldest of 6) with Mom's changes and what appears to be a new phase. Dad hasn't been saying much so my sister contacted one of the Hospice nurses directly. Yes, they believe Mom is entering a new phase, yes they believe it may be difficult to go back to where she was before, but for the moment - she remains basically the same. They have seen her go a couple of days without water and her liquid shakes before BUT what was really concerning to them were the changes in Dad. They said he appeared more emotional, is staying longer, coming in earlier and isn't having either of my sisters relieve him for a day or two like they have been doing for the last year. They said no one knows Mom better than Dad, that maybe he knows something that no one else knows. The nurse also said that they had such a great day on their anniversary (6/28 was 54 years married) that Dad told her he felt for sure Mom was going to pass that night. Hospice claims they have never seen a more devoted husband - one who is always there, looking after her and getting everything she needs. It's strange but all of us feel this is it - maybe Dad does too and that's why he's there everyday for 8-12 hours a day. My sister is going with Dad tomorrow to see Mom and talk again with the Hospice nurses. Meanwhile - I'm hanging in there. Thank you all for your kind words and prayers...

Becky

OH Becky!!! You made me cry!!!!
Your DAD is an awesome man!!! Give him a hug for me!!!! I know this is hard on him...but his love for your Mom is definitely there!!!

Becky I can hear your heartbreak....this is such a terrible disease for the families to cope with.

My mom did the same with my dad, he was in ALZ care unit for 3 years before he passed...my mom went every other day...when we went at Christmas I could see a big decline (I wasn't living in state at the time) which no one else could see since they saw him more often. I knew the end was coming and he died Feb 8...my mom knew the week before it was getting close so we were all on stand by...luckily we made it in the night before he died to say our goodbyes.

if you'd like to talk, PM me and I can send you my number

Becky, the anniversary could have been the Awakening. Sometimes that happens when people are about to pass. They are coherent, alert, and seem like they are making some sort of recovery. MIL did this, we thought she had bounced back but looking back I think she had her awakening.

Continued thoughts and prayers to all of you and especially to dad.
