~The Daily Grind~ 4/22/09

Oh Holly. That is just so sad. If I was witnessing it, you better be damn straight I would be making those kids leave that room. That isn't discipline, that is taking control. But then my boys have learned to put their "keepers" up on a shelf. Anything left on the ground is fair game. They aren't allowed to get mad if the other one takes it apart.
They have theirs that they put together and apart all the time in a big ol'storage bin. Then their military ones are in separate drawers in a rolling cart.
Hope, you should take a photo of your DH's collection. That would be cool to see.

Today's agenda has been re-arranged. Kiena bit Kitiara's front leg. They were getting ready to rumble over Kitiara's uneaten biscuit. I took it away and I guess he got mad and bit her. She has a puncture wound. I can't keep a bandage on it, so no class today. Don't want to risk anything getting in it until I can take her to the vet tomorrow. They are closed today. I'm sure she will need antibiotics. Trying to cut down her fur, wash it, rinse and put hydrogen peroxide it was not fun by myself. He is in the proverbial dog house today.

I'm completely wigging out over it. Because that is my nature. To worry. What if this escalates? What if they always fight over a toy, bone, food, looked at me wrong? I can't be there 24/7 to stop them. Can't take the toys away, what will they do all day? Uhm, bad things I'm sure. Me, I want to take one back to the breeder. DH is certain I am over-reacting [because I do, always] and that they will outgrow it. Anyone have any ideas or insight in dog behavior? Will it go away or am I in for a world of vet bills?

thanks everyone. it really was a scene. he was just heartbroken. my dh said to my niece at Easter that it took us forever to sort them out and to please let her kids know that it was unfair to do that to bubba. he put a lot of time and energy into building them. she still does not get it! she kinda looked at my dh like he was crazy and overacting about it. :confused3 i just walked away. like i really did not want to waste my time explaining it to her.
hope- thank you, thank you, thank you! that's a great site! and good for your dh for loving legos. my son would think that's great. he loves to talk legos with people! we just saw Darth Vader, chewbacca, batman, statue of liberty, empire state building last weekend all made out of legos! he was in heaven.
ann- so sorry to hear that your puppies are fighting today.

AWM- so sorry to hear about what happened- having only one dog and it being my first I don't have any idea about what to do.

I have done my exercise bike twice and had salad again for lunch. I have plans to walk after church this evening so things are going well on the staying on track for me. Thanks again for all of the encouragement.

Rebecca

Awww, AWM! I've only ever had one doggie at a time, and he was older (adopted him at 15 months), so I'm no help. I'm sure they will calm down. You're doing the right thing by training them, that's for sure. Do you ever watch "It's Me or the Dog" on Animal Planet? Victoria is great! She has good ideas (and my sister was using one on her Border Collie this morning).

I'm still at work. Another hour and a half or so. Have to leave in time to get to the post office and I need to stop at two libraries. Blah, it's raining though...I want to go straight home!

WTG Rebecca!

I've only seen Me or the Dog once. I know she likes to use the clicker and I have the slowest reflexes in the world.:lmao: The dogs would be like, what in the world :confused3?
I've watched lots of Dog Whisper, but his methods are for older dogs. Puppies seem to act much differently. I've been trying the calm assertive thing, but I'm not doing so well. I've got calm, but I don't think I project enough assertive or those puppies are immune. :rotfl2:
I've had two dogs before, but the second dog was 5 years older than the first dog when we got him. Had the first dog from a puppy, but I really don't remember what it was like with her. We are going back 14 years. It's all seen with a rosy haze. She was like the best dog ever. :rotfl2: She was, really. I don't remember her every being aggressive or destructive other than the wheels on the gas grill. And the second dog was major submissive. She just ran the show and he was 'kay, whatever.
I've calmed down some now. Freak azoide I was before. I think I will just stop the larger treats for a while now and just give them the chew in one bite kind. Maybe after they have their hierarchy figured out I can reintroduce the larger ones on a limited basis. Seriously, it's not like they have to have those dog biscuits or chews. Right? I'll just get more chew toys.

Oh, and way to go Rebecca!! I loved my lunch day salads when I participating in "All Hot and What Not". I may start doing those again with the nicer weather.

she still does not get it! she kinda looked at my dh like he was crazy and overacting about it. :confused3

I do believe that some folks "don't get it". To them the Legos are to be built, destroyed and rebuilt. They don't build them to keep them. They don't spend hours and hours to get them just the right way. So they don't understand the loss. They don't spend the big bucks on the large kits. They just buy the small ones that are meant to be played with, not collected.

you are 100% right there Ann. they *don't get it*! and that's ok. but now they have been told so they should know enough not to do it again. but i will not take that chance. i will put them away when the come. but sometimes they just pop in and then i'll just have to say please, please do not take those legos apart.

You can be like us... there are times we hid nearly everything... my DsSs drink a 24 pack of soda in a weekend... that is DH and I's caffeine for the week...or most of the time 2 weeks.... so we have gone to hiding those and anything that is related to his lunches. :(
Believe me these kids don't starve...but it's just a different atmosphere than what they have elsewhere... when you eat out every night because mom doesn't cook....they don't understand why we eat home cooked meals (healthy food)
