I don't know if anyone has already posted on this book, but I was wondering if anyone liked it as well? I am currently reading it, and, although it's pretty weird, I think it's neat. ::yes:: The connections and the way you find things out is so closely knit together is cool. Ok, any takers?:

I loooooved it! The :cat: and ::MickeyMo story got a little old for me, but the religious backdrop was so interesting, I couldn't put it down! It really made me think twice about what I was always taught in regular school, sunday school and mass. I now look back and question everything I was taught in history (religious or not) and actually, from here on out.

I'd love to hear what everyone thinks about it!

I read it out of curiosity and ended up enjoying it, which was surprising because it isn't the type of book I would normally read.

I haven't read it, but know people who have. The only thing I'd say is be careful not to accept everything in this book as fact. There are a lot of references to organizations and sources which are dubious at best. One friend of mine was raised Catholic and was a bit bewildered by the presentation. He was given a link to a website which gave some insight to the author and his story. I can find it and post it if you are interested.

I liked the beginning better than the end. I thought it started out with a lot of intrigue and mystery. I didn't care for the conclusion and frankly, it was predictable.

I enjoyed the book. After I read it I also read Angels and Demons, a prior book by Brown with the same lead character. I think I liked the A & D better.

I liked The Da Vinci Code and Angels and Demons too. I thought they were pretty well-written suspense books with enough historical background to make it even more interesting.

i have been trying to read that book since it came out. For whatever reason I can't get past chapter 3. I start, get busy, forget about it, restart, reread, get bored, forget about it, restart, reread from beginning, get a new book, finish the new book, etc. I've gone through at least 5 other books while this one sits right next to me by the bedstand.

Have you ever watched 'the week in review'? A couple weeks ago they had a discussion on this being the book that everyone says they are reading but no one actually finishes it.

I read it in the beginning of the summer. I can't imagine anyone starting it, and not finishing! It kept me pretty engrossed all the way through.

I thought it was a good book, well written suspense/thriller genre writing. Not exactly "top notch" literature but the material is quite interesting and I thought the story line was great. Everyone has their opinions about the end, but compared to most of the book it left you kind of unsatisfied. That's all I'll say about that! Hope you enjoy it :) Basically, it's the must-read book of the year.

I didn't like it... I must be one of the few ;)

I thought the writing was just okay, certainly not anything to get excited about it. It was predictable, and frankly, unbelievable to me. VERY unrealistic.

I think the concept is absurd, and the material within in is speculation at best. It concerns me that people might believe his "theories" based on the book.

His conclusions as to what he was alluding to, and how he ended things, literally made my laugh outloud.

Just my honest thoughts.

It was a very interesting read. I also could not put the book down. I got it from one of my friends and it is one of the few books that our entire coffee group (10 people) all read and enjoyed. One of the most enjoyable pieces of fiction that I have read for a long time.

I liked the short chapters -- good bathroom reading:p

I agree with all of your observations.

I read that and Angels & Demons. I enjoyed both of the books. I always was interested in the different aspects regarding religion and science and this just furthered my curiosity. It really makes you wonder about everything we were taught as catholics in catholics school. Like politics, religion can be very controversal. All in all, I enjoyed both these books. I also heard of the book called "Holy Grail,Blood Grail" or something like that. Its supposed to be a book on the same topic as Da Vinci Code. Next time I'm at B&N, I'm going to get it. That will be my next read.

I read that and angels and demons. I enjoyed both books.

I can't imagine someone not finishing either book. They were both so interesting.

As for the thoeries, remember its a work of fiction. If you see it from that perspective, its not hard to imagine.

I do agree that people shoudn't take his book at face value. But are you implying that the bible is pure fact? I think it's full of "theories" myself. In fact, both his book and the bible are a mix of truth and story. Mind you, I definitely don't think the bible is pure fiction, or close to it, but it's not indisputed, historical fact either. Everyone should remember that history was written by the winners, so it's likely to be skewed in that favor.

My point is to take all books with a grain of salt...bible included.

Like others, I really enjoyed the beginning of the book. Then it got to the end and it was almost as if he had to fit the entire story into x number of pages and couldn't go over, so the book ended. Not to mention, the "historical context" is baloney. There are so many incorrect "facts" presented that too many people will accept as truth. I'm not impressed.

Erin :D

Angels & Demons and the DaVinci code are excellent readers. I liked them :)

When I read a book, unless it's one specifically listed as non fiction, I'm more concerned about getting absorbed in the story. I try not to analyze how factual the book is because it's just a story.

Frankenstein couldn't possibly have happened. Doesn't stop me from enjoying the story.

That said, I really enjoyed the Da Vinci Code. I read it in 2hours. The premise was interesting, it kept my attention, and it was well written. I do agree the ending was too neat and too abrupt.

Yes, I have been "reading" it for quite some time. I do find it very interesting but I always get sidetracked. I'm not a big reader to begin with but with the distraction of planning a wedding, buying a house and looking for a new job, it has been neglected. It reminds me of another book that took me years, honestly years, to get through: The Celestine Prophecy. I really enjoyed it, but I just couldn't commit to reading it. I hope to finish Da Vinci soon.
