You're the guy in the sleeveless muscle shirt next to Don, right?

OK, I listened to the e-mail show yesterday while I was doing some yardwork, and wanted to weigh in with my opinion of D23.

I finally joined this year. I did not join for the full $75 rate, but for the reduced $35 rate - it includes everything except the magazine. I wanted to see if my membership would be worth it. Because of all the writing/interviewing I do for the DIS Unplugged, I kind of looked at joining in the same way I look at belonging to my professional society at work.

I live in Rochester, NY - so I'm not close to FL or CA. So far, I've gotten a certificate for joining - that's it. I haven't been able to attend any of the events in any of the locations.

I am looking forward to checking out the D23 Expo this year. It sounds like fun, and I'm hoping the lines aren't too long. The complaint that the Expo is in Anaheim doesn't really hold water for me. The Expo was announced far, far ahead of time, and I made plans to attend it. This is my summer family vacation, and we decided to go check out Disneyland and the Expo. It's similar to how we went to WDW and Star Wars Celebration V in Orlando last year. It's a destination event that we decided to go to.

I'll be sure to let you know my impressions of the Expo.

If I lived near DL I would probably join D23, other than that, it's not happening. Just the stories of the WDW event tickets selling out in seconds is reason enough for me not to join. I've bought the magazine 3 or 4 times and while it's nice, it's big and inconvienant to read and it's NOT as good as Disney Magazine that I still sorely miss. I might also consider D23 if they offered member discounts, even small ones, for Disney shopping and/or restaurants at the parks/resorts, but so far I still see nothing in D23 that makes it worth the price.

I am surprised about the comments about very few events in WDW. What about the scavenger hunt for 2 days and then destination d for two days that just occurred in May? D23 pulled out all the stops with the final event a concert by Richard Sherman in person along with the original dreamfinder and figment showing up? There does seem to be some kind of blackout about D23 events on the dis unplugged podcast but everyone has access to the D23 website and can see upcoming events. The expo pretty much has to happen in California due to the proximity of Disneyland to the convention center (within walking distance-not so in Florida) and that most of the movie stars etc live nearby and it's easier to have them show up if in California. I thought the first expo was unbelievable and can't wait for the next-I've been a D23 member since day one (and was living in Idaho then) and still am-I think it's worth every penny and then some.

Hi Cynthia!

I actually attended Destination D and posted pictures on the DIS Unplugged Blog. I was scheduled to sit in on the podcast and talk about it (and Teresa was going to talk about the Scavenger Hunt), but the recording ended up getting delayed until later in the week due to illness and I had already flown home. :sad1:

I did talk about it very briefly on the 5/26 Disneyland edition of the Podcast.

I imagine we will have FULL coverage of the D23 Expo.

I'm glad Tom posted, because I was going to post a link to his coverage of Destination D at WDW. Cynthia, maybe we'll get a chance to meet at the D23 Expo!

I must be in the minority because I feel that the magazine is really well done -I use to get the old Disney Magazine as well and I enjoyed that also. It's not worth the membership fee alone, but it's generally a good read -for me.

Not to add fuel to the fire, but D23 just released the arena schedule for the D23 Expo.
