Hi- I'm planning on going at the end of August and I was just wondering if this is a really busy time at the parks. Does anyone know??? :scared1: Especially with Free Dining usually being offered around this time. :yay:

Around mid August (16th), the crowds start dropping off, with less and less crowding as you get to the start of school. I don't think Free Dining will start until September.

We went to disney during the end of August in 2005 and 2006. Except for the worry of hurricanes, it is a wonderful time to visit. It is of course very hot and humid, and has the afternoon thunderstorms that roll in, but we have found the crowds to be fairly light!

Free dining started at the end of August (the 24th) and ran through September 20th. The crowds were a lot lighter than I was used to, and we only found it crowded for Labor Day weekend. The rest of the time it was great! We're going again this year at the same time due to the lower crowds. :)

We have been to Disney the last week of August for Free Dining and the parks are not crowded at all. The restaurants are crowded. We only had to use fast pass once or twice, because the wait times were never over 10 mins. We are thinking about going back this year again.

We went 2nd to last week of August in 2008. Crowds were great - we rode the same rides over and over and over again! Down side was that it rained 6 out of 8 days there. We wore ponchos the entire 6 days and I don't think our tennis shoes ever dried out BUT we had a great time and some fun photos to look back on! Because of the rain it wasn't too hot which was the up-side!!! I actually bought a sweat jacket in Pooh's Corner cuz I was cold and wet!

Have fun!!!!

I like August and it actually got busier the closer we got to free dining at the end of the month, lol!

I just want to add that it is very, very, very hot and humid. but also found the crowds to be fairly light. Because of the heat and humidity we will keep going fall or winter as we have done.

It was either two or three years ago, we visited the first week of free dining and vowed to never do it again. We own DVC and booked our vacation before free dining was announced. Between the crowds and heat, it made for a vacation spent by the pool rather than in the parks. It was not quite as bad as Easter, TG or Xma weeks but bad enought that we will never go again during the summer free dining. Fastpasses were gone from the "E" type rides before 11 AM - Soarin, TT, RNR, TOT, SM. I think September is much better because kids are back at school. My sister went last year during Labor Day weekend and complained about the crowds. But she doesn't count because she lives in Tampa and can go for a long weekend whenever she wants!:rotfl: Just expect heat and crowd levels to be on the high level. If you go in with the right expectations, you will have a much better time.

Guess everybody probably already knows that free dining is out for the visa card holders, so when do you think it will be ann. then to the general public? Hasn't it been within a couple of days in the past years? I can't wait!!!:yay::woohoo:
