We recently completed another 24 hour straight drive from Toronto to Disney in Orlando and back. This time we tracked our cost and miles and thought it may be of interest to other members planning their trips.

Awesome! I've been keeping track cost of flying out of TO vs Buffalo, but I had no idea how to compare this to driving since I had no idea where to begin calculating how much it costs to drive down. This will really help, thanks!!!

We are really glad you found value in the post. We have flown out of YYZ and BUF and driven in the past. Generally speaking driving is much cheaper for families however more time consuming. Flying our of BUF can be good if you can find a deal. We are flying out of BUF for our xmas trip to WDW. It was almost 40% cheaper then YYZ.

We also fly for shorter trips both out of BUF and YYZ however we were even surprised as to final cost when tracking to this level of detail. We generally use a ball park of $500.

Thanks for your post! We drive from Hamilton and last year we estimated we spent about $500 dollars. (We drive a Pontiac SV6). Definitely cheaper than flying! When we do fly, we fly out of Buffalo also, but with 3 kids (6, 5 & 2), it was going to cost us $1600-$1800 this time around! We are doing the drive again in October because financially it just makes more sense for us!

We drive from very NE Ohio and this will be our first trip with our new Odyssey (previously drove in an SUV).

Just reading your gallons of gas used makes me so excited for our gas savings now that we have our van!

Agreed! It is much cheaper to fly and makes a lot more financial sense if you can do it.

Yes! The Odyssey is amazing on gas for freeway distance drive if you keep the speed steady and in the ECO mode so the 3cyl shut down is activated. All our friends were so amazed with our results. To be honest, I always knew it was good but never thought it was this good until after this trip
