We need suggestions for our new thread. I think it should have something to do with what ties us together.....like friends and values. :goodvibes

:rotfl2:

T&G, I edited my prior post to give you a mini-review. :thumbsup2
I saw that. I'll have to try it!

Really? WHERE? I love clam chowder, and we'll be there in January. :) We'll be eating at the condo, mostly, but I'll make a point of getting some of that!
Pacific Wharf Cafe at CA Adven, but wonderlanne told ya already. If you were going to be there in Dec we'd have some together, but since I only live 20 mins away from you we'll have to have lunch sometime. ;)

I've never thought this part of WA is pretty. I much prefer warm weather and beaches and palm trees...think HI or FL. :rotfl:

I'll trade ya. Well, the city where my brother lives ( in WA) is a little dry, but everywhere else seemed to be so green and pretty. We drove from his house to Seattle. It was a nice drive. I really liked Pikes Marketplace, btw. :goodvibes

I was looking up conservative quotes for this purpose, and I found the following from Calvin Coolidge:

"We cannot do everything at once, but we can do something at once."

I think it speaks to how we can't get the Republican party and conservatism back on track all at once, but we can start right now. And we can do it by working together. Not sure how to make it fit as a title though.

ETA: Debbie, croque monsieur is essentially a grilled hot ham and cheese sandwich, popular in France. Chefs de France sells it as well, although not sure if that's where hockeymom's pic came from.

Congrats on getting your chemistry homework done - bleck, I HATED chemistry...

And I love love love your avatar - I don't get to see much of ole Ziggy nowadays.

Thanks - my ham and cheese sandwiches look nothing like that!

Great quote, by the way - reminds me of Elisabeth Elliot's quote - do the next thing....

What in the world is that bit of cheesy heaven? I've never heard of croque monsieur.

Yummmmm.....

Think of it as a grilled ham and cheese, with bechamel (sp?) sauce and more cheese on the top. Remember, we're talking FRENCH cheese, not our overly killed cheese in the USA. There is practically more stuff on top of the sandwich than in it. Knife and fork required!

We've had Chef's version, and while good for a lunch, it isn't even close to the same as we had daily at whatever brasserie we'd stop at.

*need to go back to Paris!!* (reminds self to get job)

I'm laughing, because I got confused for a second. My name is Debbie, also. LOL

:thumbsup2 Thanks Tink and wonderlanne!

Oh, January is a great month to visit. It can be a little unpredictable, but usually very nice.

No matter what it is like, it will be nicer than it is here. January is "Seriously Snotty" season.

And since you complimented Washington state, I will now subject you to a few pics :scared1: :

Gig Harbor, where I "officially" live (according to my street address) although I actually live on Key Peninsula. When I was in high school, though, I lived on the water, a bit to the left down the harbor from where this picture was taken. I did see that view out our living room windows for those years. :)

Big Mama deer snacking on huckleberries in my driveway. She brings her baby every year to snack on my garden, too.

Don't even know why I'm including this one, except I think it's a pretty cool picture, and it shows the crazy undergrowth we have here that swallows things up. This is in the woods behind my house.

Beautiful pictures, Michelle!

I'm about to turn in, but for you Glenn Beck fans, here's part of a nice article about his book signing in the Bristol, VA area earlier tonight. :thumbsup2

Beck: “We Are The People Clinging To God And Guns”

Books-A-Million was packed nearly an hour before Beck was slated to arrive at 8 p.m., each fan standing in line according to the number on their ticket. Single file, 500 people snaked switchbacks around the book shelves, waiting with fevered anticipation to meet the man several called their hero.

Every one in line held a copy of “The Christmas Sweater,” Beck’s third book.
...
At Beck’s arrival, an exuberant applause broke out in the bookstore.

“Praise Jesus,” someone yelled several times. “We’re not worthy,” declared another. An eruption of camera flashes accompanied the frenzy, capturing Beck’s dramatic entrance.

He strode toward a platform before the crowd, stepped onto it and raised his arms to the sky.

“We are the people clinging to God and guns,” he boomed.

Beck spoke briefly to his fans, his voice breaking at times, before he sat down to sign his name 500 times. He told them about his faith and his life and the fans he has met during his signing tour.

“This is a real bond between me and my listeners,” Beck said. “I wouldn’t stand in line for anybody. For them to stand in line for me, it’s amazing.”

I have a good friend who I've known for ages who lived in gig harbor. I thnk she's now in Tacoma again. She works for one of the aids non profits.

She sent me an olbermann link the other day and I had to tell her that as much as I love her, I wasn't clicking on it! We're part of a group of about 8 friends. Boy are our interestes diversified, but we usually DO NOT talk politics with each other, we know better.

Does he live on the east side of the mountains? Yeah...totally different weather system.

Thanks! I thought I would never get it done. Not my cup of tea. I like Ziggy, too. I was surprised that it was on here as an avatar choice. :)
:thumbsup2 Thanks Tink!

Those are great pictures! I love all of the greenery. Thank you so much for sharing them  . Oh, I meant to say...when we were up there, we got stuck in traffic on our way to Seattle, but it turned out that it was was because the Blue Angels (?) were practicing overhead. Pretty neat!

Here's a few good quotes. Any of these will make a great thread title. IMO

"Never, never, never give up."
Winston Churchill

"Whatever you are, be a good one."
Abraham Lincoln

"Happiness and moral duty are inseparably connected."
George Washington
