I was looking at some information on what's left of the Lost Continent section of IOA and noticed a place called the Coin Mint. I have been trying to find out what exactly they do there and how much it costs, but I have found no info whatsoever, except this "The clang of metal against metal marks the creation of another unique work of art. See metal coins and medallions forged and struck right before your eyes. Choose your design and walk away with a one-of-a-kind memento."

So I'm guessing they forge coins and medallions? How exactly does this work? How long does it take (I have 8 and 1/2 hours at IOA)?

Also, pricing. This sounds expensive, but it looks like a neat souvinier (I want to bring back something unique besides WWoHP stuff). So, around how much would it cost?

For those who have done it, can you show me results of what you got, and what you thought of the place? Thanks so much!

I did a Google search and found the prices:

Bronze coins/medallions are $21.95

Pure Silver is $94.95

A 24kt gold layered one is the most expensive at $145.95

You can also buy chains at 20in ($40) or 24in ($45).

I don't know if the prices are accurate, but I hope they helped!

We loved it, I'll try and post a video of it!

Ooh! Goody! Can't wait to see it! popcorn:::)

I think I know which kind I'm going to get (If I do this!)! Thanks for the prices!

What size(s) are the coins/medallions, and do they come with a loop if you want to add your own chain?

Thanks again!

They come with your standard black cord and the coins have a loop on them already, you can kind of see it in the video I am posting....which may take a while since our internet is not the best!

I was surprised to find that there were no videos of the place already since it seems like the kind of place that people would film.

Can't wait for the video!

I'll start uploading it tonight and post it tomorrow morning if it doesn't time out....yes, we live in the boonies o_0

I told the two other girls in my group about it and they said it sounds like fun and that they can't way to try it!

Can't wait for the video!

Ditto! I'm going in a month exactly and CANNOT wait! I bet IoA will be awesome.

Looking forward to finding out about The Coin Mint!

We'll be at our good friends this weekend and will upload it Saturday night. I tried a couple of times from home and it timed out. I have 3 separate ones so will try and do them all :)

A friend of mine works the coin mint, part time, it's an entertaining place. The actual pressing could probably be done in under a minute, but they make a little show out of it. Still, I don't see this taking more than 10 minutes out of your day (but what a fun 10 minutes!).

The coins are slightly bigger than a quarter, if that helps. All the zodiac symbols, various unicorns and dragons and eagles and other Ren Faire type images, lots of Celtic symbols and ankhs as well. Nothing copyrightable, tho, so no Spidey or Shrek. You get two designs on each coin--heads and tails can be different.

Hope this helps.

Glad that it doesn't take long. It sounds like it'll be fun!

Thanks!

I plan on taping the experience when I go to IOA. It looks to be a lot of fun, and I hope I won't have much trouble uploading it!

ACK! We wound up going to Busch Gardens this weekend so didn't get to upload it. However, I am in the long process :) of doing it now!

Np, hope you had fun at Busch Gardens, I used to go there a lot until we switched over to doing Disney annually.

Take your time!

If anyone has and pics to share of what they got at the Coin Mint, I'd love to see them.

And can anybody confirm that Magical Kingdom's prices are recent? Or if they've changed?

Thanks!
