My children are very excited, I just told them about the new attraction at MGM. Has anyone done this, is it open yet?

When we were there they said it was the "soft" opening. Basically it was a preview of the movie. I don't know if they added anything else to it, but I thought it was a waste of time.

My DS9 did an in-depth study of the "Lion, the WItch and the Wardrobe" 1st semester of this year and loved the movie. When I told him about the attraction at MGM, he was really excited at the idea of "walking through the wardrobe door". I'm just hoping it's still there when we have our May 2006 trip!

My 11th yr old DD read the book in school during the first marking period. When we heard they were having an attraction at WDW about it, I can't tell you how excited she was. :cool1: We were in Disney on Dec. 9th when the movie (and the attraction!) opened. Even though we had been to MGM earlier in the week, we HAD to go back on this day so she could see it on Day 1. While Disney annoyed the heck out of me by having a "press event" at the attraction that lasted all day - the attraction didn't open til 4  - I have to say that walking into the wardrobe and seeing the set really took my breath away. The look on my DDs face as she was standing next to the lamp post was one that I will never forget. I think Disney could of done lots more with the attraction - maybe some behind the scenes footage and more props, but it is definitely worth the visit.
:)

The general public is unpredictable, and it is ill-advised to spend big bucks on a whiz-bang new attraction about a film for which it isn't really clear whether it will "have legs". Narnia is doing well, having made back half of the cost to make it so far, but that doesn't mean that will translate into something that could be used to theme a new attraction that would need to attract new guests to the park, in great numbers, month-after-month, for years.

Does anyone know how long this will be at MGM? We'll be going back in May/June and my children would enjoy seeing it.

We did the Narnia attraction Christmas night. We had seen the movie 2 nights before. As we were getting in line a young man who had just done it told us not to waste our time, that it was just a 12 minute movie and a walk through some trees. We did it anyway and were so glad we did. As you're waiting in line outside they show a "making of Narnia" show on the TV monitors mounted up high so everyone in line can see it. You go in to a little "movie set" with trees and the door to Mr. Tumnus's house, and a movie screen. Kids can sit in front, everyone else stands. They show a 10 minute or so movie trailer and just as it's starting the white witch comes out for about 1 minute up on a sort of balconey. It's a standard movie trailer, it hits the highlights but still very good and exciting. After it's done you walk around a corner and see the white witches sleigh, the dress she wore in the scene where Aslan is killed, the outfit Lucy wears at the beginning of the movie and the white witches wand. All originals from the movie. As I said, we thought it was great (my kids are little) and I think it really made a big difference that we had seen the movie because it made seeing the original props really special. I can see where some people might be dissapointed, theres not a whole lot to it and it's really just a promotion for the movie. But I think everyone's personal experience will depend on what they are expecting and how they feel about the movie.

I thought it was a waste of time, definitely not worth a long wait at all!

Basically, you walk through a very large wardrobe door (which by the way looks nothing like the wardrobe in the movie. They lead you into a room where there are a lot of trees and the lamp post and a big movie screen. You sit on the floor and watch a very long preview of the movie, probably a good 5 minutes or so. An actor makes a brief appearance as the witch. She basically stands on the ledge above the crowd and lip synchs to a pre recorded track. Then, you exit through a very small exhibit of maybe 5 or 6 displays of props from the movie.

If you have seen the movie, the preview is a waste of time. The props are so few that it isn't really worth it and the witch appears only very briefly. Unless you really have to see a bunch of artificial trees covered in fake snow, it really isn't worth it. There is a photo opportunity with the lamp post outside the entrance to the attraction.

We only waited about 15 minutes to get in when we saw it. We really liked the movie, so the extended trailer was great for us. I thought the set was beautiful. DD knows the White Witch, so that was fun. There were only a couple of things I thought needed improving. The CM who did the introduction had a very thick hispanic accent that was hard to understand and really didn't go with the feel of the movie. Because it was so busy, they let 30 people in at a time. That made it very hard to look at the props. I plan on returning after the crowds die down so that I can get a better look at the props and pictures.

Does anyone know if this attraction is still open? We are going to be in Disney World next week and are hoping to go to visit it!

:thanks:

Alright this is only my opinion. To me and my family DM 44 DD 44 DB 17 ME 14 (15 today) it was a waste of time. I think that it was a bit overplayed because you walk through the wardrobe and than you walk into the forest and you just stand there watching a promotion for the movie. I thought it sounded like fun but to me it was a waste of time.

But that's just me.

Thanks, but even so, do you (or anyone else) know if it is still there? We may decide not to go... but I'd like to know if I have the option. One thing's for sure--I KNOW I'll be disappointed if I go all the way over there for nothing. ;)

Hello! Sorry, I don't know what the plans are re: how long they will keep the attraction. :confused3

I loved the movie and was disappointed in the attraction, but as this thread shows, there are lots of opinions! Still, even if Narnia is closed or is disappointing, there are so many fun things at MGM that I would never consider a visit there to be a waste. :wizard:

Have a wonderful time on your trip!

It was still open in April..according to the website it's still open. However, if you go, if its open or closed you'll be disappointed :-) It's just a forest with some movie clips...then two or three movie props. The movie props in the villian area getting off the backlot tour are better...

We were there last week and it was open.

When the wardrobe doors opened and I saw the set, I thought this was going to be really good. I was really disappointed, it was basically a 10 minute movie trailer. I felt like something was missing! But at least we cooled off in there and we can say we have done that attraction and don't have to do it again.

We loved the Movie and can't wait even to just get a photo at the lamp post. I think my kids will get a kick out of just seeing it. And I am not building it up just in case it is truly a dud.

Java, you are exactly right. My kids enjoyed it to some extent, but we walked right in with now wait. Earlier in the day the wait was 30 mins so we skipped it. Late in the day we had no wait so for that it was ok. The kids enjoyed the outdoor lamppost area as much as any other part of it!
