The cheese in Jikos Mac and Cheese

We're trying to decide whether to get a ressie at Jiko. The best thing on the menu that might satisfy our taste buds is the filet with mac and cheese.

I'm wondering though, what kind of cheese is in the mac and cheese? We're not necessarily the most adventurous when it comes to our food. While we like something different, we don't want it that different! :rotfl:

Any idea?

I am sorry, I can not remember if it was one kind or a blend but it is a bit different. If you tried to feed it to kids I assume most of them would balk. It is fairly potent and a bit bitter but the sauce they serve with the filet (pay no attention to the flowers if they still put them on) blends really well with the mac and cheese and tones it down.

I don't know what cheese(s) they use, but it was really good. I only got a little taste because nobody wanted to share with me :sad2:

DS11 absolutely loved the mac & cheese, and he's a blue box mac & cheese kid  He doesn't normally like "real" homemade mac & cheese but he ate every single bite of the Jiko mac & cheese. He also like the red wine sauce, but asked for it on the side just in case and that worked well for him :thumbsup2

I absolutely respect the response of the other person (who thought it was different/bitter), but we (DH, Ds10, and I) found the mac and cheese to be very rich, creamy, and "normal" -- not challenging in any way. It was the best dinner choice of our group and I think we're all going to order it next time!:thumbsup2

I saw the recepie but you know what? It tasted like Cheddar to me the two times I had that filet at Jiko.
But for laurainsem's purpose, it's not so different as to be something you wouldn't recognize, or like.

Sounds like it wouldn't be too different for us. Really, as long it as it isn't something like goat cheese, we're cool! Sounds like a nice combo of cheeses; thanks for all the helpful responses! :thumbsup2
