The Cheap Route

Earl of Sandwich in DTD comes to mind first. Also, DH and I often share meals in the park. We don't need a huge meal in our stomachs going on rides anyway.
Sometimes we just have an ice cream cone or pretzel for a meal.

You can eat almost anywhere for $30 for 2 people, just ask for a cup of water instead of a soda :)!

You can get slices of pizza, a salad, and soda for about $10 at Napolini in DTD!

In the parks I would hit up soup in a bread bowl at Habour Galley in DL or Pacific Wharf Cafe in DCL, super filling and with sodas and tax you would come out just under $30 for 2 people. Another favorite is Hungry Bear in DL. I love the fried green tomato sandwich but they have burgers too.

I think you will find that there are many options within the parks where two can eat for 30 and under. For example the Plaza inn Chicken dinner along with a side salad each or along with a split Cobb salad, (Although the chicken meal is big enough to easily split depending on how big portions you tend to eat). If you slit the chicken meal and say add a side salad you can still have a soda along with free refills and keep the price point. I split the chicken meal with my hubby where we sub the dark meat for another breast/wing and extra mashed for the green beans, he gets the soda and I have water and we eat for under 20. This is one example but there are others within the park. Out of the park in DD there are cheaper options, like the Napolini, The Jazz Kitchen Express, Earl Of Sandwich, ESPN zone (for some menu items), and Tortilla Joe's Taqueria. There are some inexpensive hotel options like White Water snacks and the like. Was there something in particular you were looking for?

I highly recommend splitting meals! We do this at almost every counter service, and we sometimes even have food left over. We share two adult meals between myself, DH and our two DDs. I would say we are average eaters, except for my youngest DD who is capable of eating her own body weight (yet is still somehow small for her age. Wish I had that ability!).

My suggestion would be to share something like chicken at Plaza Inn or soup in a bread bowl (the corn chowder at Pacific Wharf is our favorite, as is the shrimp Louis salad). Then, if you are still hungry, you can try one of the awesome snacks! It's important to leave room for churros, Mickey pretzels, chimichangas, etc.

At an eating location, one thing you can do is look around and see what others have ordered. This will give you an idea of portion size. We do this all the time.

The portion sizes are very generous and it's not uncommon for people to share.

Personally I do not find $30 for two people to be cheap, even at Disneyland. $15/pp should be pretty easy. Order water, instead of soda.

As others have said, it will be easy to stay under $30 for 2 people per meal... Any quick service (hot dogs, corn dogs, snacks) will be around $20 for 2. Counter service is usually about $10-12/plate, plus a $3 soda.

In the Disneyland park or Downtown Disney what would be the "cheapest" places to eat? Spending not more than $30 for 2 people.

I agree with the others, there are lots of places to eat for two for under $30. Plaza Inn fried chicken dinner is about $15 and enough to share. :thumbsup2

The Monte Cristo at Cafe Orelans is easily enough for two as well. Share, share, share! :goodvibes

Ralph Brennan's Jazz Kitchen walk-up window has some great value choices.

We never order one meal per person unless we know we'll eat it all. When you're walking around and riding rides, you don't want a big meal in your stomach. Plus, most meals are definitely big enough for two. We order two of the chicken meals at Plaza for 4 of us and there is usually still some (although not much) left over. You can always go back and order more or pick up a snack later if you're still hungry, but if you buy too much then you will most likely end up just throwing it away! Plus when you share, you can try even more things throughout the day!

Any counter service in either park as long as you ask for water and don't order a beverage.

Also, definitely the totally awesome Earl of Sandwich (you could even do sandwich and small soup if you choose water as your beverage) which is our go-to DtD place, or probably any of the quick-service counters that the main DtD restaurants offer, too.

And if you want to take the walk in to other direction to Harbor Blvd, there's always the 24-hour McD's.

Another vote for Earl of Sandwich. You could both get a sandwich and a drink and be right around $20 there. That's our go to cheap meal option at the DLR.
