Good afternoon, hyenas!
Definitely overcast today, but not raining. (I think all the rainbuckets emptied out
last night,
WHOAAAAA!)
Ooooo, what the heck? I just typed that, and noticed a bright light behind me. The sun peeked out for a sec!
Anyway... where was I? Oh right.
DH's mother and stepfather visited yesterday. They underestimated the travel time, plus hit two horrible accidents, heavy rain, and road construction along their way through our area, so they arrived 2.5 hours later than they expected. No worries, since we had no other plans anyway. (They didn't tell us until the morning what time they were expecting to arrive, so we declined several invitations to make sure we'd be here.)
This was sort of a big deal, because we haven't seen them since 2001; DS8 was just a little guy then, and of course DS4 wasn't even born. It was a nice visit, a nice chance to reconnect, and to catch up on the extended family. They live in an oceanside town, so brought shells and sand dollars and agates they'd found and tumbled. "Grandpa" played a game of chess with DS8, who is just learning to play; he went easy on the boy and the boy won, and Grandpa told DS8 that he was a pretty good player already!
She brought old family photos she or her mother had saved over the years. She's sent boxes of those previously, and honestly, I have no idea what to do with them all. I can barely keep up scrapbooking the ones of my family, I can't see doing that with photos that are from the '50s and up! I think she hopes that's what will happen though.
They are taking a meandering 3-week tour through the country, stopping to visit friends and family all along their route. Should be fun!
