Aww I actually like that store. The girls love it. I dont think letting them dress up for a day is wrong. All they give them is clear/pink lipgloss and very light sheer eye shadow with a hint of blush. I think people assume (not saying YOU) but people assume that you get a full fledged makeover in there. Morgan said it was the best birthday party ever.

Not here.. I want to say on the web site it shows a family of 6 it is $52,540. There is NO WAY. UNLESS... He takes a few days off without pay the week we have to show proof of income.

I would have to agree with that.

Depends on how much the parents let them be dolled up and the clothes.
We had one at Mall of America, I don;t think Mn was ready for it and they closed it.

Now we are getting a two level American Girl store/ bistro/doll salon etc.
They have positions opne.. I was toying with applying for doll hair stylist and then realized I have no clue how to fix hair and couldn't picture myself in that environment.. too much the boy mom

Well that sucks, MN is known as a "welfare state" in the political world. Not that we have alot on welfare, we just have the programs to care especially for children and moms to have the best healthy outcome.

Pay more now, pay less later.

Did some sluething.. federal guidelines are at 185% of poverty ($47,xxx for family of 5, preg woman counts as 2) but WIC qualification is is also based on if you qualify for medical asisistance which is 275% of poverty ($68,xxx family of 5). Thus preg women and infants up to 2 yrs can have a larger income and qualify for services.

Check into it.. you never know!

With the libby Lu thing I dont see what the harm is actually. Its funny. Whenever someone mentions makeup or getting girls dressed up they go towards Paris Hilton. Like my daughter is going to turn out like Paris Hilton because she put on blush one day for her birthday. I dont get it. Seriously, before everyone judges too harshly you get a SMALL compact with even the most expensive makeover. Yes you can buy other makeup kits in there but they dont apply those to the girls. they just apply the small one. Everything is sheer.

Now I dont agree they should be able to wear makeup everyday of course but I really dont see the harm in letting girls be girls. And actually that thread basically called my 8 year old a HO Nice. Talk about classy.

Sometimes I feel like my mom did with me. When I was younger a lot of girls were girly girls. always in dresses, hair neat. I was such a tom boy. My mom was very feminine, always made up and such. Well, she fought that girls could be tom boys and it was OK so stop saying I would turn out GAY. (not that there is anything wrong with that) Thats seriously what people would say because I played in dirt when I was little. I would be GAY.

Now I guess because Morgan likes to put on makeup at birthday parties and dress up she is going to be a HO according to some. Everyone wants to downplay girlie girls because of Paris, Britney and Lindsay. It doesnt mean they ARE going to be that way. its so sad.

At her birthday party this past month she received 5 makeup kits. Yes I said 5 some were small playlike makeup 2 were huge cases with real makeup in them. The girls OOOHH'd and AAAHHH'd over that. they all wanted to rip right into the makeup and play dressup. Morgan gets to play with it on the weeekends and when her friends are over. Its cute to watch.

Guess what, there are a lot of girls who like this stuff. I guess you can call me a build a HO mom but I look at it differently.

BTW, All of Morgan's friends have American Girl dolls and they all get dressed up to play with them too since the dolls are so fancy. I guess the "evil" is everywhere! Its called being a GIRL!

Sorry, that whole thing just ruffled my feathers to call little girls HO's because they like to dress up.

Is BBB at WDW any different? Is the Princess thing at DL any different? not in my opinion and I dont see anyone calling that a Ho maker.

Ok I'm done.

Speaking of dressing up. Today was sports day. Morgan put on her cheerleading outfit to wear to school. she did her hair with the ribbons from cheer and her skirt and everything. She wanted to get into the spirit week with sports day. Jake wore his basketball uniform from last spring. Well, we pull up to the school and most of the kids were not in sports clothes like they had been in the past. I guess poor communication with the parents over this spirit week, everyday has a different theme.

Some were in jerseys but most were very toned down not like in the past. Well, you should have seen morgan's poor face. She started to panic. I could tell. She said, "I'm not so sure I want to wear this" Luckily we drove and I told her we could go home and change quickly. We made it back before the bell but I felt so bad for her. She was really excited to wear her cheer uniform to school like she had seen other girls do before but when it wasnt a big deal she felt a little funny for it. We let Jake out of the car and we ran home and changed into her dance studio t-shirt. Still a sport although I'm sure some will consider its not.

We were back before the bell rang.

ETA: I just got off the phone with Jeff and he was saying how excited she was last night to wear her cheer outfit because she always forgets sports day. He felt so bad for her too. she was just crushed in her own little way this morning.

ok, here's my take on the libby l thing...(not that it matters)...If I want to take my child there (or wanted)...I will...I will not worry about the opinion of someone who likes to say nasty things or down a child for playing dress-up..and that is all it is..dress-up. You have control over what they are doing there....They don't have a back room that offer "extra" services..

The remarks on that board are not only dumb ... they are ridiculious. Those kids are not little hoochies....they are little Girls having fun. The people on that board need to grow up...

BTW...I took my daughter every once in a while....you know...kinda like the BBBoutique....yea...are they going to call those 3 and 4 year old's those names.

Reminds me of stories of my friends getting a pedicure in Guam. They got charged $400 for a pedicure because they didnt specifiy they did not want the "special" pedicure!

Cool with a bit of mist this morning. Allegedly there will be sun peeks today with a high of around 74, but it seems a little questionable at the moment.

Shawna, I think you (and your polar opposite on that thread) are taking Libby Lu too much to heart. I agree with you that little girls love to dress up, have their hair done and play with make up. There's nothing wrong with that at all. But I also agree with her that some of these places make the little girls look hoochie rather than cute.

If I had a little girl, I would NOT want her idolizing Paris Hilton, for pete's sake! Disney princess, Miley Cyrus, OK. I would not want a young girl (and I mean 8yo or less) wanting to be like Paris or Lindsey or anyone really sexy or stupid or obnoxious. I think that's just a little too much for that age range.

Similarly with my boys, I hate how all the boys' clothing seems to be geared to look like a teenage boy. A surly teenage boy, no less. When I was looking for cute, humorous t-shirts for DS8, I saw so many shirts that were rude or "I hate school" type of things. Funny, yeah, but my kid's not gonna wear it! I just didn't think they were appropriate for that age.

its dumb. I think the kids are just pretending.... if you look at the age of the little girls they are really young... and like I said if I was to go to Disney and drop 300.00 at the BBB not an eye would bat..

They also used a glitter paint and put a butterfly or heart on their hands and clear nail polish with glitter on them. All of the girls looked really cute when they were finished.

You saw the pictures of Morgan, are you really going to tell me she looked like a HO? The makeup is sheer.

And yes I do take it to heart when I'm told I take my daughter to build a HO. I work hard to raise a sweet girl who is kind to everyone and believe me her teachers, friends and everyone that knows her will say that Morgan is one of the most caring girls out there. I also teach her to idolize people like me for instance, my grandma, my Aunt, her teachers not Paris Hilton. The whole judgement that you take your girl in there and she will be Paris is ridiculous in my opinion.

That is my opinion though and I realize others have opposites and I do respect that but calling a girl like my daughter a HO is ridiculous. Ok I realize they didnt say MORGAN is a HO but the message was there.

Yeah, I know what you're talking about (well except for the ovaries aching! ). Junior high is when it's the worst! DD and I battled over clothing and makeup in 7th & 8th grade! There were times my DH would end up in the middle of our battles and it drove him crazy also.

I just don't know what it is about that age 11-14 that makes them want to be so grown up. By the time DD entered high school it was much better, her common sense seemed to have caught up with her phyiscal body appearance. It dawned on her...you don't really want to look like THAT!
