The castle as a cake??

I loved it decorated as a cake. :cutie: We made a trip just to see it. :rotfl:

I thought that it was great that they came up with a way to turn the castle into the cake. But just because you CAN do something doesn't mean that you SHOULD do it.

I really wasn't crazy about the cake, but at least it was only temporary.

We're also in the minority. The first time I ever went to WDW was when the cake was the castle. I'm not quite a Disney purist and hubby and I loved it! I suppose not as much as the traditional castle for just nostalgia's sake but it was a really cool feat of engineering and imagination. I can't say I'd like it that way for long but where else could you find something like that but Disney and the sheer magnitude of planning and work to pull it off was mind blowing. Especially for a WDW first-timer. :) I treasure our cake castle pictures! Far more than the ones from last Dec with the crane in the picture.

You can't please everyone all of the time, nor half of the people even part of the time but I give kudos for trying something unique and different. I'm GLAD disney takes risks. Yes, not all of them pay off or are what "we" deem the "best" ideas BUT they try and where would we be if they didn't?!

It was decorated as the cake when we were there on our honeymoon. The theme that year was "Remember The Magic!" and we kind of adopted that as our honeymoon slogan! :) Fun memories!

um wow, I never saw it in person, but I must say I don't like it. It looks like ...... oh I don't know how to explain it, but when I heard about "Cake" I just thought of something differenet in my mind and was thinking it couldn't be that bad, but it is that bad. I am sorry for those of you who like it but if I had gone to Disney when that was up I would be really dissapointed. Maybe I don't appreciate all the work they did for it, but something inside of me thinks that Disney could have done a much better job.

I think the castle looks cute as a cake.
But if you'd saved for years to go to Disney World and got there and rushed over to see the castle you'd been dreaming of for years...and found that monstrosity, you might have been VERY disappointed. And a little pissed.

I felt badly for all those folks.

Just a bad, bad, bad, bad, bad idea. You don't take away your icon - the thing people love most and come to see.

I doubt they'll do it again.

But I loved the tee-pee! Turned the corner to Main Street and laughed my *** off. Some guy in business clothes came and asked if I liked it and I said yes. And he asked if I found it "offensive" in any way.

Disney worries too much about stupid stuff and not enough about things that matter. They really ought to hire me. :rotfl:

Here is a pic of the castle on its way to becoming a cake...terrible!

I think that's even worse than the cake! Ew! :P

Where were you standing for this pic? I so want a good pic of my kids and the castle this year and this one is great. Although the trees have probably grown up to block much of it.

Right across from where you come out of Crystal Palace on that little side road. I was just thinking last night that I'm going to try to find a few of my pics from that trip 10 years ago and try to get pics in the same place on this trip - a kind of before and after! Didn't think about things like the trees being bigger, but it should be fun to see!

I do think however, that they certainly made it clear that the cake was going to be there and when. Anyone who showed up and had no idea I think is at fault in general. I did read in one of the trivia books that a very large number of weddings were cancelled that year because of the cake, which certainly doesn't surprise me because it's certainly not the romantic icon you'd be looking for!

I think I was seven when they had the castle as a cake, and I personally loved it. Now that I look at it, it wasn't that attractive, but as a child I thought it was beautiful. I also personally would be much more upset if the one and only day I was ever going to be in MK was when Stich Tp'ed the castle. Yeah, I find it funny, but I'm also going to get to go back and see the normal castle.

The castle was HIDEOUS like that. :( There was nothing magical about seeing that at all. (JMO)

This is pretty much exactly what my tour director for KTTW said.

He said that they had a TON of pissed off people that had booked their fairytale weddings and then got there and... uh, yea. The castle was a giant pink cake. Several of the people demanded refunds or to let them get married somewhere else. I can't imagine what a nightmare that was.. or how upset I'd of been after looking forward to getting married/getting my picture taken in front of the castle! :scared1:

The pain of my root canal went away.
The pain of correction of my bad ACL went away.
The pain of going bald went away.
The pain of the "castle cake" went away.

But, unlike other pains that the brain mercifully forgets.
Someone had to bring this pain back.
Ouch.

I was really bummed about the cake castle. It lost its "Magic" during that time for me. :sad1:

I liked the castlecake. I went to WDW the first year it opened and didn't return for another 25 years. As a kid, I remember the castle being taller, but as an adult I loved seeing it again all decorated for the special occassion. I guess I knew it was temporary so I wasn't upset. But the first time I saw a cluee that castle was going to look different I was confused. I couldn't figure out what they did to my castle.

The last time we went to Disney was when the castle was a cake. Now that I look back on it I think it was pretty hideous, but I didn't think it was so bad when I saw it in person. My DS was barely 2 then and he liked it.

I can't wait to see the "real" castle in a couple of months!

I had the pleasure of being in a lagoon view room at the Poly the week they were finishing it up.

It was awful. It was changing day by day and each morning I would dread to see what they had done to it overnight.

Anyone else recall calling it the pepto pink castle?
