We are leaving Friday for Disney and I've been told there may be a crane at the castle taking down the lights from Christmas. Could this be true?? I truly hope not. :-(

Unfortunately, it could be true. They have to come down somehow, and it seems as though the Fairy Godmother's wand doesn't work outside the animated feature world so that is not an option.
A crane is not the end of the world. Just go enjoy your trip ;)

Disney is so good at doing things so inconspicuously I guess I thought maybe they would just do it at night. It's my daughters first time so I just want everything to be perfect. Although I know that's beyond my control . ;)

I get how you feel... last time I went I didn't take many pictures the 1st day cause I really wanted to sit back and enjoy everything but then our 2nd and final day at MK we get there... and there's a crane behind the castle :( It sucked but I still had a great time :)

There can also be an additional crane in operation. If they need to do heavy lifting on 7 dwarfs there will be one there directly behind the castle.

Cranes are just one of those things you have to decide to put up with and decide you won't let bother you. You don't get the castle lights without one and neither do you get a new coaster without the other. Both cranes are actually positives in a way.

.

Yep- we were there the week after Thanksgiving and it was there all week. We got some castle pics angled where you can't see it, but it is there in a lot of them.

We were there the last week of Sept. in 2011 and it was there for most of the week :( If you have friends that know how to do photoshop, it is an easy fix in pictures.

When is the last time there WASN'T a crane behind the castle? With heavy construction going on with the 7DMT, it's likely to be there a while longer.

Photoshop is always your best friend. It took less than 5 minutes each to erase the crane out of my last set of photos.

The 7 dwarfs crane has been there pretty much permanently since construction started. There are times when it's kept lower and intrudes less on the scene. But it's often quite visible.

We had a crane there using our trip in January. It wasn't that bad, we took photos with the castle and the crane and told everyone "Cinderella is doing renovations so that we can move in next month." :lmao:

Maybe they should do like my neighbour and leave them up all year round

The crane for the 7 dwarves mine coaster has been removed. I don't know when the castle crane is coming, but since tonight (1/8) was the last night of them being turned on, it should be coming soon.

Our 2010 trip there is a crane in the background of all of our castle pictures because of the work they were doing on Fantasyland. Honestly, I didn't remember until I saw this thread and I never notice it when looking at pictures because... hello, Disney!

I agree. The crane has been for for the last 3 years atleast.

Cranes have become part of the Disney backdrop as of late. They're not a pretty sight but well, they are what they are.

Last Sept a PP photog was about to take our picture by the castle. Just at that moment a bucket crane with 2 workers in it popped up. The photog told us that it was our very own Fairy Godfathers! :)

Yes, it could be true. This is the same issue in early September when the lights go up. Search the boards for crane and you'll see a lot of opinions ranging from "oh, well" to "I can't believe they ruined my pictures". It's usually up for a week or two. We have been there once with the crane in the background. It's really not that bad.

Either way, enjoy your vacation.

I'm not photoshop savvy at all. But even I can clone stamp a crane out against a sky background. It's not hard.
