For those of you who are not familiar with my family, and have not read previous trippies and the pre-trip report, please let me do the introductions:
Myself (Catherine) (41) - loves anything Disney, especially Pooh and Mickey as Sorcerors Apprentice
DH (John) (47) - luckily loves disney as well, and is usually happy to agree with my plans
DS (Stephen) (14) - not too bad as a teenager, but doesn't like rides that go upside-down!
Thursday 27 July 2006 - Day Eight - IOA, US, Shopping
Up today at 7.30 am. Showered and got ready and over to IOA for opening so that we could do the "wet" rides, then get back to the room before check-out to dry off and change!
First was Popeye. There was no wait at this time of the morning, so straight onto the ride. Got absolutely soaked. Then we squelched our way over to Ripsaw Falls. This was first for all of us as we had never done this before! But we were determined to make use of the FOTL passes, although again we didn't need them as ride was a walk on. Mind you when I say walk on, the queueing area seemed to go on for miles. IOA just seem to have the same queue no matter how many people are about! They don't shorten it if there is no one waiting - how daft is that?
Anyway, rode Ripsaw Falls and I am not sure if I would do it again . The drop seemed huge and we got even wetter than drenched - if that is possible LOL. Then it was into Jurassic Park area to ride River of Adventure. Have to say Stephen chickened out of this one, due to the drop, although it wasn't as bad as the Ripsaw.
Squelched our way back to RPR so that we could get changed and dry off. Checked out of our room and took a couple of piccies at the hotel.
By the time we had loaded the car etc, and walked back to the City Walk area we decided to have an early lunch at Hard Rock Cafe. No problem getting a table and food was OK, nothing really special!
Back to US and rode Jimmy Neutron (why do they have the Birdie Song at the end???).
Quite enjoyed this as we had not done this before due to the queues! Last time we rode it was the Jetsons! Then it was onto Shrek 4D. Love the Shrek films, and this was as good as ever. The only thing I would say is that there was a young baby behind us who obviously didn't like it and cried, and had to be taken out. Why don't parents try these things to see whether their children will get upset?
Then onto Twister, although I can't say I am that impressed with this ride, and then we decided to try Mummy. Another ride we had never done before. As Stephen had discovered it was a coaster of sorts he decided not to ride, so at least we didn't have to struggle with the lockers. I have to say I wasn't over impressed with this ride particularly. Didn't find it scary or thrilling at all, but I will probably do it again next year.
After another ride on MIB (I won), we decided we had done enough at these parks. We are not a family who enjoy the big thrill rides, so the time spent here was enough for us. Having said that I would definitely stay at RPR again to take advantage of FOTL, as the rides we tend to enjoy still usually have long waits.
As we were at the top end of I-drive, we decided to go back to the Florida Mall. Stephen wanted some i-pod gadget and I wanted to swap my Aveda shampoo etc for smaller bottles. (I had previously bought the large ones, but common sense prevailed. I had never tried Aveda before so buying the huge bottles would be a waste if I didn't like it, and also the size of the bottles would have probably meant excess baggage!!!!)
We then travelled down towards LBV Crossroads and had a go at Hawaiian Rumble mini-golf. Can't remember who won! John probably.
As we were just up the road I suggested we try Bahama Breeze for dinner. Booked in at the podium and were told there would be a half hour wait (which I didn't think was too bad!). Took pager and also got a copy of the menu to look at whilst waiting. Now DS is a fussy eater and looked through the menu and decided there was nothing he would like!
So rather than be faced with a miserable teenager, we decided to try somewhere else.
Tony Romas was another suggestion as it was up the road, but we couldn't find it! It was down on Mapmans map as near to Steak & Shake and opposite Macaroni Grill, but we couldn't find it anywhere.
Ended up at Giordanos for a pizza. Have to say we will not be going back there in a hurry. The service was so slow. Our server struggled to understand us, and we ended up waiting nearly an hour for 2 pizzas and 1 chicken alfredo. The food was very nice, but there was too much (as usual) and we had actually gone past being hungry. LOL.
After the meal we went back to the Villa to watch "Whose Line is it Anyway USA", read my book for a while and then bed.
