The Calories Don't Count When the Food is Free! (Complete 11/24) Pics!

Just caught up and love your reviews so far. We have two weeks of free dining in May so I guess that means I will actually weigh less when I get home :-)

:welcome: We were only there for a week, but I came home down about half a pound, so I can only guess what you will lose in two weeks!

That looks so good :thumbsup2

:welcome: It was good, but the tacos were so small!

Joining in and looking forward to more. Excited to see reviews of LaHacienda already!

:welcome: I was excited to try La Hacienda since it had just reopened.

Great start, can't wait to hear more.popcorn::popcorn::popcorn::popcorn::

:welcome:

After a busy day at Epcot, we were ready for dinner at Teppan Edo. We only waited a few minutes and then we were seated at a table right by the entrance with two other couples and a woman.

100_2936.jpg

We had a waitress who came to take our order before the cook came to the table, but it was really hard to hear her because the restaurant was so loud and we weren't always sure what was going on.

I didn't get any picutes of our plates, but I did get these:

Cooking
100_2939.jpg

I ordered the shrimp and chicken and Travis ordered the shrimp and steak. The cook made the noodles and vegetables first and started the meats a few minutes later. She made a lot of cute jokes and things while she was cooking, which was nice.
The noodles tasted fine, but the portion was a little small, especially since neither one of us liked the squash or other vegetables. They did bring out a small bowl of white rice for each person, but it was a little cold and brought out after we were served most of our other food.
The shrimp was awesome!!!! We each got about 5-6 shrimp and they were perfectly cooked. They tasted great with the white sauce. (The waitress explained what it was, but we couldn't hear her... whatever it was tasted great!)
The chicken was ok. Each person got a full chicken breast, but she cooked them all together and cut them up before she served them. It tasted fine, but I thought it was a little dry. I tried dipping it in the sauces, and the white one tasted good, but not as good as on the shrimp. If we ever come back here, I will skip the chicken and just order the shrimp, since it was tasted so much better.
I'm not a big steak person, so I didn't try any of it, but Travis said it was good and he was happy that he ordered it well done and it was actually well done.
The one thing that I didn't like about this meal was that it was all cooked at the same time, so some things took longer to finish and things got cold on your plate if you tried to eat them together.
We ordered Cokes to drink and ice cream for dessert. Neither was anything special. I debated about ordering the chocolate ginger cake or the green tea pudding, but decided to go the safe route. One of the other ladies at the table orded the cake and said it was quite good.
I had read a lot of people complain that the portions here were small. For Disney standards, they are small, but we were full at the end of the meal.

On Thursday we headed to Animal Kingdom. After riding the safari, Everest, and walking both of the trails, we were hungry for lunch. We had eaten at the Yak & Yeti CS last year and I really wanted to go back there, but Travis wanted pizza, so we made a deal to go to Pizzafari that day and come back to Yak & Yeti later in the week. Unfortunately, we didn't make it back to Yak & Yeti, so I never got my yummy honey sesame chicken:sad1:.

Disney2010100.jpg

We each got a pizza with a salad, Coke, and the chocolate mousse. Travis had the pepperoni pizza and asked for his salad with no dressing, while I had a cheese pizza and had the Caesar salad with dressing.

100_3075.jpg

The pizza tasted ok, but they use wheat crust that is kind of blah. The cheese and sauce were fine, but I noticed that the pepperoni on Travis' pizza was super greasy and left a huge grease puddle on his plate.
My salad had almost no dressing on it and the salad without dressing was just lettuce. It was so boring and blah that neither one was really eaten.
The chocolate mousse was covered with the same dark chocolate "sauce" that our chocolate cake at Columbia Harbor House had on it. The mousse tasted good, but it was really heavy. I LOVE rich chocolate-y things, but I was only able to eat about half of it.

Overall, I don't think I would eat here again, unless Travis really really wanted pizza and even then I probably would go get my own food from Yak & Yeti CS and meet him someplace to eat.

As a side note, if you eat here, make sure to look around the whole restaurant - the decor is really neat and different in each room!

We finished up at Animal Kingdom and took the bus to Animal Kingdom Lodge. The bus ride was fine, but the gate wouldn't let the bus driver in! He even tried getting off the bus and walking in front of the sensor and it wouldn't go up!
After he finally got the gate to go up, we had about a half hour before our reservation, so we wandered around the resort and I took a bunch of pictures. It was such a beautiful resort and made me want to win the lottery, so I can afford to stay there in a savannah view room for at least a week!

Inside the Restaurant

After we were seated, our server came over to take our order and told us to go to the buffet - this was pretty much the only time we saw her for the whole meal other than to bring our bill.

This was one of the meals that I was most excited to try, but also the most afraid that we would hate... it ended up being all well made, but most was not to our taste, so I don't think we'll be back.
Our first plates

My second plate
100_3136.jpg

I don't remember what everything was, but here's what I do remember.
I tried the vegetable soup first, and it was pretty much just normal vegetable soup. I tried the peanut soup and it was really good - it tasted like a rich creamy peanut butter that was soup. Travis really liked the salmon and beef, but later that night, discovered that the topping on the salmon must have had peanuts in it, and since he's allergic, it was not a fun night for him...:sad2:. I tried the chicken and the first piece was off from the top of the tray and it was quite dry - I tried another piece and dug to get it from the juices on the bottom of the tray and it was much moister and tastier. The chicken didn't have much spice, but it was well cooked and I ate most of the second piece. I love mac & cheese, so I was excited to try this, but it was cold, so it wasn't very good. I tried the coconut rice, it was really sweet, which I liked, but it was served cold, which I didn't like. The waitress had told us to make sure to try the bread - I can't remember the name, but it started with an "m" - but it just tasted like really dry cornbread. I tried several of the salads, and they were all well made, but not to my taste. The real winner of the dinner was the fruit. It was so fresh and tasty.
Dessert
100_3139.jpg

The desserts were really good overall. I was really looking forward to trying the zebra domes, since I had read so much about them on here. They were good, but not up to the hype that I had read. My favorite was the yellow dessert in the middle of the plate - it was something with passion fruit and had a kind of jello consistency and it was amazing! I wish I had gotten several of these instead of some of the other desserts. The one to the right of the passion fruit one was a chocolate mousse covered with cinnamon and it was really good too. The two tan ones were a cheesecake, which Travis thought was really good, and a peanut butter carmel one that was just ok. The brownie and chocolate chip cookie weren't anything special, and I didn't even bother to finish them.

We went to Hollywood Studios to watch Fantasmic! We got there early enough to watch the second show, but decided that the second show would probably be less busy, so we watch the Muppets and wandered around for a bit. We were going to get in line for the second show and I decided to get a snack from Beverly Sunset. I ended up with a choclate cupcake with tons of white frosting.

100_3147.jpg

As soon as we walked out the door, we realized that the line for Fantasmic! was backed up past the store! :scared1: That was all it took for me to decide to head back to the resort for a swim instead of seeing Fantasmic! that night. I was really impress that the cupcake held up through standing on the bus rid back without getting all over the cup that it had been packed in - the cup seem like it was the perfect size!

The cupcake was pretty much just a normal cupcake. The ones I had later in the week from Starring Rolls were much better, but in a pinch, it will fill a cupcake craving. The frosting was really sweet, which I love, but would probably be too sweet for just about anyone else.

great reviews - We love Boma and hope to be there on Monday!!!

Bit gutted that we paid for DXDP though - that obviously means that the calories will count

Great review of Boma, I haven't eaten there yet, but it sounds great.

I was really glad we tried it, but it just wasn't our taste, so we won't be back. Make sure to have one of the passion fruit dessert things though - they were awesome!

:welcome: Well if you don't want to eat that many calories I can drive down in less than a day and eat some for you!

Great reviews!!!

:welcome: Thanks! Hope you enjoy the rest!

After riding the big three and watching Indiana Jones, Travis was starving and starting to get grumpy. I really wanted to try the cupcakes at Starring Rolls, but he really wanted a burger, so we split up to get our food for lunch.

the infamous Butterfinger cupcake
100_3188.jpg

The inside of the cupcake
100_3190.jpg

I got the turkey sandwich with BBQ chips, a coke, and the Butterfinger cupcake. The sandwich had some large chunks of red pepper on the bottom, which I don't like, so I tried to take them off. That was a mistake as the sandwich fell apart into a big pile as soon as I took the bottom piece of bread off. I tried to restack the meat onto the bread, but only got about half of it on there. It was very messy to eat and I can't imagine how anyone could take a bite if all of the meat was on the sandwich, since it is so tall. It had some sort of cucumber-y? dressing on it that I didn't care for and lots of pepper on the bread. I ate about half of it, because it was really filling and I wanted to save room for my cupcake. I didn't eat the BBQ chips until we got home, but they were pretty good. They had a sweet BBQ flavor and were very crisp chips.
The Butterfinger cupcake was AMAZING!!!!:cloud9: The frosting was really sweet, but it was a fluffy whipped type frosting. The cupcake part was a really good choclate, and it had a bonus blob of choclate sauce in the middle of it. It was really hard to eat though, but so worth it. I only finished about half of it at lunch and I took the rest with me, because it was too yummy to throw away! I made the decision after the first bite that I was saving my snack credits to come back on our last day and get as many cupcakes as possible!:lovestruc:

Travis' plate from Rosie's All American Cafe
100_3189.jpg

Travis got a hamburger with french fries, Coke, and a chocolate cake. He wasn't big into commenting on what he ate, so all I have is that he thought the burger tasted like a soyburger and was "ehh..." The chocolate cake was the same chocolate cake as we ate at Columbia Harbor House and Pizzafari.

We went back to the resort after lunch, since I wanted to swim in the main pool for a bit and take a short nap. We had fun on the slides, but got faces full of water on the bigger one when we tried to lay down on it. I took a nap and Travis wandered around the resort. He decided that he wanted a snack, so he got a choclate chip cookie and choclate milk. Again, I don't have much from him, only tht the cookie was a little dry.

Sounds like you had a great time.

When I go to the Prime Time Cafe, they always seem to make me the entertainment. Last time I went, I had to sing"I'm a little teapot" to the whole restaurant.

Ooh I want one of those cupcakes right now popcorn::

:welcome: I would take one anytime! They were probably about 1,000 calories, but since they were free the calories didn't count! That means I should have gotten more of them!

Subscribing! Love your reviews so far!

:welcome: Thanks!

Sounds like you had a great time.

:welcome: Sadly, our waiter was not that into it, so we didn't really get teased or anything.:confused3:

I was excited to eat at 50's Prime Time Cafe, since I had made a reservation here on our last trip, but we didn't make it. I had warned Travis about what they do here, so he wasn't surprised.
100_3207.jpg

I was excited to get some teasing and be made to do silly things, but our watier wasn't really into it. The one thing he did do was to take a long stick and tap some ladies on the back of the head. We were cracking up, because it took forever for them to figure out what was going on!:rotfl2: There was a guy sitting at their table who say our waiter tapping their heads and he kept saying he didn't notice anything when they would ask, but after a couple times, he had to try really hard not to laugh too!

My Chicken
100_3209.jpg

I ordered the Fried Chicken with just mashed potatoes and the PB&J shake. The waiter gave me some hassle about no veggies, but wasn't really into it. The chicken was really good, but there was so much! There was no way I was going to eat all of it by myself! The batter tasted really good, but the chicken itself was salty. The mashed potatoes were real potatoes and the gravy was really good too! I would definitely order this again. I wasn't sure I would like the PB&J shake, since I don't like PB&J sandwiches, because I don't like the two textures together, but the shake was amazing!:lovestruc It tasted mostly like PB... I couldn't really tasted the jelly at all, but it was still really good.

Travis' Pot Roast
100_3210.jpg

Traivs ordered the pot roast and a chocolate shake. I think he switched out the vegetable for green beans, but I don't remember for sure. There were some mashed potatoes underneath the pot roast as well. He said the pot roast was good, but his mom's is better, but he cleaned his plate pretty fast, so it must have been pretty good. Travis really likes a good chocolate milk shake and he drank the whole thing - even the extra in the metal cup they mix them in!

Our Dessert
100_3217.jpg

We were both stuffed from our dinner, so we got dessert to go. I wanted to try the Boston Cream Pie Cupcake, but they had changed it to a parfait that they stuck in a cup, so I couldn't get that to go. Instead I got the s'mores and Travis got the no sugar added cheesecake. I didn't eat the s'mores until the next day and they did not hold up well, but they were still tasty. It was really hard to eat though, since they stuck to the container. Travis didn't eat the cheesecake until the end of the week, and it definitely did not hold up well in the fridge. He said it was good, but nothing exceptional.

I had read good things about the fixin's bar at Pecos Bills, so we headed there for lunch on our MK day.
100_3234.jpg

I ordered the Deluxe Cheeseburger with fries with a Coke and chocolate cake. Travis ordered the regular cheeseburger with Coke and chocolate cake. We ordered at the self-order kiosks. I only wanted the bacon and BBQ sauce on my burger, but I couldn't get it without the onion rings at the kiosk. We looked at the fixins' bar, but only ended up getting some cheese sauce for my fries. I thought Travis would get some mushrooms since he really likes them, but he didn't like getting them out of a buffet type setting.
100_3235.jpg

The burgers were decent. I was a little bummed, because the BBQ sauce was mostly on the onion rings, so when I took them off, there wasn't much left and it made the burger dry. The BBQ sauce was really tasty and I wish there had been more on the burger, because I think it would have made it a lot better. The bacon was actually crispy and not too fatty. The burger with the wheat bun was just ok. The cheese sauce was good on the fries, but nothing else really made it worth a speical trip back here.

When we went back to our room to relax, Traivs got a Mickey bar. He said it was really good and tasted like a dove bar. I didn't get a picture before he chowed it down, so you'll just have to imagine it...
