The Cake Bake Shop by Gwendolyn Rogers Coming to Boardwalk?

Where do you see $100 for a cake?

I thought the cakes look familiar and apparently they're also sold online by Williams-Sonoma, for $149.95. So $100 would be a bargain if they were the same size.

Probably the price when you buy it direct. The WS pricing includes dry ice shipping, probably, which is expensive.

Looks delicious! I hope they hurry up and have it ready for my trip next January, I can't wait to try it!

The Grand Floridian would certainly be the best fit theme-wise for a Cake Bake shop, but maybe they thought it would be redundant with the Garden View tea room. If it's styled like the ones here in Indy, you will also be able to pop in and purchase to go dessert items from the case. Granted, it's a opposite end-of-the spectrum change from ESPN, but I can tell you that our menfolk get mighty bummed if we leave them off of our Cake Bake reservation. The ham/rosemary/goat cheese quiche is a family favorite.
I agree that it would fit well in Grand Floridian. It will be interesting to see what the aesthetic will be at this location in comparison to the originals. I also agree that the men might not care so much about the Cake Bake vibe , but they also don’t want to be excluded and miss out!

And just so everyone not from the Indianapolis area is aware, Cake Bake is always completely booked up. You have to make a reservation months in advance. It’s a “thing” here. The owner built it from the ground up and it is a truly unique place!

Yes, it is replacing the ESPN Club.
Where did you see that it was going in the ESPN site. I've looked at multiple reports and haven't seen a location mentioned. It makes sense going in there.

Thanks. But by their quote -
Disney has announced that a new table service restaurant and bakery, The Cake Bake Shop by Gwendolyn Rogers, will be joining the BoardWalk and sources indicate that the ESPN Club will be the location, I think you have to take that as still a rumor. Most likely correct.

We’ve been BWV DVC since 2006 and this is definitely not what the BW area needed as far as a restaurant. Overpriced deserts and sandwiches along with afternoon tea may serve a small niche of people but I give it a year at best to last there. Big, big mistake.

I've eaten here and the place is so overpriced for what it is. Als my cake was something like $12 for a slice and it was kind of dry. A costco cake slice is better. I still have a gift card to use and haven't gone back in 2 years...
Its really only a place you go for a special occasion because of the decor. But not a boardwalk type restaurant.

Nothing they serve food wise would be quick service. What may be quick service is the bakery items like cake and cookies.
I can imagine Disney is planing on this being your walk up bakery in the counter section it will presumably have in old store/arcade space in ESPN. then you have the ice cream next door. And then a Disney run savory quick service(sandwiches and other non fried stuff i assume) in the old bakery space(which the whole area needs more non dessert foccused quick service, so this is good imo). Then you get the 2 restaurants, the pizza window, bar, etc.

The table service restaurant part of this new place in the dinning section of ESPN is irrelevant to that idea of shifting things around. So is its menu as a table service menu doesn't really affect a quick service even if they are similar beyond perhaps making ppl hesitate to splurge on the TS if the reviews aren't attractive enough. But Boardwalk caters to a lot of couples who love festivals so I dont think this place is to far a reach.

Really, I think what this boils down to is losing a sports bar and gaining a savory quick service location. The rest is kind of a wash despite the changes, its just different themes but similar concepts(a bakery counter, a TS restaurant). And tbh, if the coffee bar turns into something Akin to what is at Riviera, I'd be thrilled.

The real issue is that Disney needs to figure out a parking solution to make boardwalk a viable place to come visit for more people. Granted, the skyliner will make it so multiple resorts have access beyond the lake area, but still

Agreed, I suspect this place will last 1-2 years at most in this location. Quiche and cake after a hot day at the park? No thanks!

My biggest concern at the moment is if any construction/ remodeling either there or BW will affect my Mid to late June stay there.

I have to agree that I find the cakes can be on the dry side but then we have an national award-winning baker in the family so we're spoiled. I think they actually do savory better, although the whole package experience is really what you go for.

This appeared in todays MouseSavers Newsletter. Makes me miss ESPN even more :sad1: Not sure what this adds to the Boardwalk but not something I'm interested in. Presumably Disney did their homework though and there are those who will find it appealing.

Enhancements and New Dining Options Coming to Disney’s BoardWalk
The Cake Bake Shop by Gwendolyn Rogers is a new table service restaurant and bakery coming to Disney’s BoardWalk; it is expected to open in 2023 in the space vacated by the ESPN Club, which will close permanently. The new restaurant will offer savory and dessert menus, along with afternoon tea service, in a whimsical atmosphere. The BoardWalk Bakery will become a sandwich shop.

Disney’s BoardWalk Inn will also receive some updates. Light and airy touches will reinvigorate the lobby, lounge and guest rooms. Just off the lobby, there will be a new coffee bar with artisanal beverages and quick bites. Menu items will be available to-go or can be eaten in the newly refreshed indoor and outdoor seating spaces.

Just another slap in the face from Disney for me. I loved ESPN on the boardwalk, having a place to take a break and watch a game and have a couple drinks. I’ve watched my favorite teams in MLB playoff games and NCAA tournament games there. Where would I go for that now? Instead we get a bakery/sandwich place when we already had the Boardwalk Bakery (which also sucks compared to 6 years ago when it had lobster rolls and salmon salads, etc).

Just sick and tired of having good things taken, and nothing the moves the needle up to replace it. All while being charged more. We have a trip booked for next year, after which I intend to sell my DVC and take a long break from Disney. If we don’t stop coming, they’ll never change.

We share a lot of the same sentiments. Boardwalk is my home resort which I've always loved, but we are considering selling our DVC as well if our trips this year are lackluster like the one last fall. My husband & I would always catch a game of our team during football season at the ESPN club. It was a nice contrast to the parks 24/7. Now that tradition has forcibly ended. Sure we could go somewhere else to watch the game like CityWorks in DS, but it was soooo easy to walk out of the hotel room and travel the short distance before. A much-needed break from the (fun) Disney chaos. It's a loss, for sure.
