So sorry to hear about the diagnosis. My mom was diagnosed with terminal cancer last October less than a week before our trip to WDW. She wanted to go but had all kinds of tests to do and doctor appointsments. So, we went without her all the while planning on going back in December or January. I had a hard time watching Wishes and Illuminations knowing she was home dealing with this but she insisted we go as to not disappooint the kids. All she wanted was a new Mickey Mouse sweater, which I found and sent her via Fed Ex from WDW. She was so happy and wore that sweater for months. Sadly, she got weaker and weaker and she could not make another trip and she passed away in early March. You go on the trip no matter what the cost while you have the time so you can have some great memories!

So glad to read the update that your plans are falling into place! I think it is great that your mom communicated what she would like to do...so you can share the excitement together
, and then 4 or 5 nights at a beautiful hotel on the beach.
I'd say screw the budget too if I were in your situation. Life's little joys are too important to let money hold you back.
