The Broadway show thread where we discuss all things Broadway

I got this clip in my time line. I had seen it before but it is absolutely one of the best Tony Award performances ever: Michael Jeter in Grand Hotel (and a very young, Brent Barrett).
I love this clip that includes his Tony speech.
This is a huge comfort performance of mine. Michael Jeter deserved every inch of that Tony award

Not Broadway related but have been wanting to tell this thread!
I was at Billy Joel’s return to the garden last Friday night.
Everyone had to show proof of vaccination or a negative Covid test for those under 12.
They did say masks were optional for those vaccinated (I wore mine the whole time minus a couple pre show pictures because I admittedly don’t trust some humans). All in all there were a decent chunk of humans in masks.

Billy was amazing! He still sounds amazing and even the few songs he has to change keys for it’s not that big a key change. Yes he sang almost all his songs in the original key and sounds as good as he ever has. Maybe a half step or one full step down (sorry non musician people-just know it’s not that bad a key change). The only songs I remember having key changes were Shes always a woman to me and Downeaster Alexa.

He even did a tribute for the 20th anniversary of 9/11. Beautiful.

It was a glorious 3 hour return.

I have seen Billy 4 times over 30 years or so, one of my all time faves (never at MSG). He is always amazing. Last time I took my adult kids and told them, you haven't lived until you have heard Piano Man live.

My parents said the same thing to me! And it was absolutely true! He opened with Miami 2017 and there wasn’t a dry eye in the house (happy tears while we were all screaming our heads off at his return!)
Happy to say I’m seeing Elton as well when he returns in February! At least I’ll have both these legends under my belt in terms of concerts!

For international guests TWO doses of any “mix and match” combination of an FDA or WHO approved COVID-19 vaccine are acceptable.
Guests under 12, when accompanied by a fully vaccinated adult may enter the theatre with ONE of the following:

I got most of my tickets for my long weekend to NYC in December today. I am seeing:

Company (so so so excited about this one!)
Baby (off-Broadway)
Flying Over Sunset

And hopefully will get tickets for Moulin Rouge as well.

If anyone is in the city TODAY (Nov 16th):

There will be a free outdoor celebration for the Broadway show Chicago which is celebrating its 25th anniversary on Broadway.

Beginning at 5PM on the TKTS Red Steps at 47th St & Broadway a marching band will march to the theatre at 49th Street playing Kander & Ebb music from the show. The Ambassador Theatre will be lit in red with a star-studded red carpet. Chicago will receive a Mayoral Proclamation and will welcome appearances by original cast members, and a tribute to Ann Reinking, plus other surprises throughout the night.

Tonight's performance inside the theatre will start at 6:30 as it's a special performance.

My first Billy concert was in 1989 and he was great. I've also seen Billy and Elton together (1994) as well as both of them separately in the last few years and they both still put on a great show. Saw Billy at MSG in 2017 and he opened with Miami 2017 then too, it was amazing. We took our then-teens who loved it too.

Knowing it’s eltons final time in the city too is going to be amazing! Billy just announced June will be show number 80 at the garden since his residency started!

My daughter is going to New York tomorrow for a convention and asked me if I wanted to come see a show. I booked a train ticket and entered the MR and Hadestown lotteries. Is 1pm too late to get rush tickets? I've never done that before. If I don't win the lotteries I am just going to wing it at the Tkts booth.

A couple of years ago, construction was completed on a performing arts center here in Greensboro, NC, that was fit to host touring Broadway shows. Prior to that, we needed to drive an hour and a half to Raleigh to see them. The inaugural performance was going to be Beautiful: The Carole King Musical. I bought my partner tickets for Christmas 2019, for the performance in, well, spring 2020.

Needless to say, the grand opening of the new performing arts center did not take place as planned. I got a couple of messages in my email over the course of the next year, telling me what date the show had been bumped to. June 2020 and then February 2021, and finally November 2021. In the meantime, the schedule got all jumbled, so Wicked ended up being the premiere performance. So in the past month, I've seen two touring Broadway casts, Wicked in October and Beautiful just last week. We have tickets for Dear Evan Hansen in a few weeks.

So glad to have this in our city now!
