The Broadway show thread where we discuss all things Broadway

I have a question about rush tickets. For Newsies, one site says that they have Anyone Rush tickets, which are first come, first served. Does anyone know how many tickets are offered rush and what the demand is for Newsies rush tickets? I'm trying to decide if I buy discount tickets for just ok seats, or try for the rush, which costs even less for potentially great seats. I've never tried for rush tickets before. In past trips, I've only been able to see 1-2 shows, and I purchased tickets ahead of time. This time, with all four of us going, I'm having to be more frugal beyond our already purchased Lion King tix! Any advice would be appreciated!

I haven't seen If/Then yet, but Idina did sing one of the songs in her Australian concerts last year and it was breathtaking. I've also been reading really positive things on social media, but these are Idina or If/Then fan pages so possibly a tad biased!

I've heard she's wonderful in it. Sounds like it's definitely worth it if you're a fan of Idina.

Just got back from Waiting for Godot. Loved it! Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart were amazing.

This is on the Newsies website, "A limited number of orchestra tickets will be available via lottery at the Nederlander Theatre. Beginning two and a half hours before every performance, patrons are invited to enter the lottery; winners will be drawn two hours before each performance. Winners may then purchase up to two $30.00, cash-only tickets to that day's performance."

Not sure if this is the same rush you are referring to, but if not, we do have a contact at the theater and I can ask tomorrow and get back to you then.

That's it. Duh me! I should've gone to the official website first. Sorry! I guess I should get tickets ahead of time since, even if I won the lottery, I could only buy 2 tickets and there are 4 of us.

Thanks so much for your help!

Just got an email that's so...so...so disappointing.

Have you seen all those ads for "Hearts and Lights", the spring show at Radio City? We love the Rockettes, we bought our tickets even befor ethe big as campaign.

Just got an email that the entire run of the show was cancelled. They have some major technical issues, so they're postponing the show until 2015.

I am SO glad I didn't buy tickets for this show. DD has taken several training courses with the Rockettes and was a teaching assistant for them one summer, so we are usually interested in their shows. I was this >< close to buying tickets! My cousin has tickets- and non-refundable bus fare- to go see this show. She is NOT pleased.

What show(s) are you most looking forward to seeing (or wish you could see but can't) that is on or coming to Broadway in the near future??

I nearly passed out when I saw that THE BODYGUARD was coming to Broadway. I must have seen the movie 100 times so I am really looking forward to that. Im also still itching to see ALADDIN which is on Broadway now but waiting until later in the run to see it.

Okay… so I know British Columbia is a loooong way from Broadway but have to share my excitement (and nerves)! IT'S OPENING NIGHT!! (Cue Producers music…:)) Our production of Company opens! And, although the house is far from full tonight, we hope that word of mouth will fill it up over our three week run. Unless you are a Sondheim aficionado, Company is just not well known. People still want the mainstream offerings (Music Man is next on the list here so that will make up for this ;)) and they don't necessarily want to drop their money on something they are unfamiliar with. I totally get it but I hope we can broaden some minds and introduce people to something off the beaten track with this show!! :dance3: Now time to get my "Butterflies into formation!!"

:cool1: Woohoo!!! Break a leg! Enjoy the run!

I Love "Company"!!! Break a leg! I played 1st Reed in a semi-pro production of this back in the Ice Age and always had a great appreciation for the show since. Have you ever seen the Cast Recording of the Original Album??? OMG, Stritch is amazing. I can't wait to hear how it went!

First of all, yes indeed I have watched that film about the original cast recording. It was so interesting. Poor Elaine was a bundle of nerves and a wet dishrag in that recording session. I can't even imagine what it would be like to have Sondheim right there in the booth! And Dean Jones' Being Alive…amazing!!!!

Opening night was fantastic. Pretty clean show. Lots of love emanating from the audience. I tripped and nearly fell in Side By Side… but I didn't. :thumbsup2 Ladies Who Lunch went well… I just love doing that song so much! :cool1: One down and sixteen to go! "Bobby come on over for dinner…!"

Congrats!!!! You must be playing Joanne. "Ladies who Lunch" is my favorite number in the show (probably because its the easiest clarinet part to play lol), my 2nd is the entire scene of "Getting Married Today"...

Yes I am Joanne. Middle aged, drunk and snarky. Typecast really… :lmao: Our Amy nails "Not Getting Married." So proud of her! A real basket case lol.

It must have been a challenge playing the score of this show. Crazy difficult music. You must be a darned good clarinetist!

Yes that score gave me all my grey hair.. esp. the Eb Clarinet part in "Poor Baby" ... yes, Im ooooookaaaaaaaay LOL  Been playing over 30 years. :)

Stop the presses!

3 shows are going to start doing Thursday 2pm shows! Cinderella, Mama Mia, and I can't remember the 3rd.

More choices for those visiting the city! :)

Speaking of grey hair… I had one of those horrific moments last night. In the club scene I completely blanked on a line. Gone… nada… not a clue. I HATE WHEN THAT HAPPENS!! Gak!! I know those lines backward and forwards and still it happens!! Anyway… my long suffering Larry rescued me and the audience probably wouldn't have noticed a thing. BTW… long suffering Larry is played by my real life hubby of 22 years. It was a cool casting choice and has been an interesting experience. ;)

Just got back from my trip to NYC and was able to see 2 shows After Midnight and Lady Day at Emerson's Bar and Grille. They were both excellent! You guys should definitely see Lady Day. Audra is brilliant and sounds exactly like Billie Holiday. It is definitely not to be missed!

I hope this isn't rude but I can't dig through all 166 pages of this thread...Can anyone tell me how Elf the musical is?

I really wanted to see Audra! Trying to figure out cheap airfare for a theater trip.
