The Broadway show thread where we discuss all things Broadway

I hope this isn't rude but I can't dig through all 166 pages of this thread...Can anyone tell me how Elf the musical is?

I love the movie, but thought the musical was absolutely horrible. I went with a friend and our two 17 year old daughters, and we were all ready to walk out by intermission. The movie is clever, but the musical did not have the same cleverness to it. Perhaps younger kids would like it, but you couldn't pay me enough money to sit through it again. We were so disappointed. :sad2:

Does anybody have any magical tricks for making the Telecharge website work properly? I can never get the 3D map for choosing your own seating to work! I have tried Chrome, Firefox and Explorer on my PC as well as Safari on my iPad and none of them work! On the laptop I just get a black box where the map should be and on the iPad it crashes Safari well before getting to that stage! I contacted Telecharge on Facebook and went through their steps (checking that my Silverlight is up to date and dowloading the tool from Microsoft that they sent me) and it still doesn't work! Hoping a Diser might have a suggestion - I want to buy my Book of Mormon tickets!

Got my tickets for Aladdin in May! :cool1: It was pretty cool, actually. I ran into a friend who works at the theater when I was in the box office, and she helped me get great seats in the front row of the mezzanine. Can't wait to see it. :thumbsup2
Any discounts available? Other tips? I'll be there 1st week of may-- would love to catch it!

Aladdin's doing really well, so they don't have discounts available now, and you won't find tickets at the TKTS booth. If you really want to see it, I'd start checking out Ticketmaster now to see what they have now so you can get them in advance. Good luck!

DH and I took our 2 older boys to see a matinee performance of "Of Mice and Man" at Longacre Theater. The older DS read the book last year, and the younger DS is about to read it, so the timing worked out well. The acting was great across the board, but Chris O'Dowd was especially good as Lennie. We saw a lot of Middle/High school-aged kids in attendance.

Still no luck :( I just went ahead and booked my tickets for Book of Mormon and Kinky Boots using their recommendations. Woohoo! My first actual Broadway shows! Not that the many musicals I have seen aren't just as amazing!

Now just waiting on tickets for If/Then to be released for our dates and to decide on 1 more! Currently thinking Newsies, Phantom or Matilda.

Saw Evita and Ghost on tour recently. I was able to see both Eva's in the Evita touring production and must say, no matter who you get, you will not walk away disappointed! Both are amazing in the role!

The Ghost tour cast was amazing also. It's a non-equity cast, but they have a bright future coming up for them all. :) I didn't see the movie before going, but really enjoyed the show.

We saw Heathers last weekend- it was good, some parts were very funny. The really amusing part was the family of 4 in front of me- mom, dad, girl about 12 and boy about 10- there were a lot of sexual type parts in it and man were those parents squirming - first the dad was sitting next to the daughter and the mom next to the son, at intermission they switched and the daughter kept her head buried in her moms arm the second half of the show--they were front row too LOL.
We are going to see Hedwig and the Angry Inch next week with Neil Patrick Harris in it!!

So jealous that you get to see NPH in Hedwig. The pics look amazing!

We're going to see Aladdin on Easter Sunday! I haven't been to Broadway in almost a year, can't wait! Hope to also see Central Park starting to bloom.

We're going to Hedwig in early June. Very excited! I loved Heathers the movie back in the day, so I am a bit hesitant to see the play...

I'm very excited because today is the announcement event for my local civic center's broadway season. I'm like 80% we will get Pippin and Kinky Boots because the civic center is an investor for both shows (which I would love to see) but I am excited to see what else we get.

We're getting Pippin but not Kinky Boots. :(

We are getting both in our season next year!
We were going to see Kinky Boots this summer in NYC, but I think we will wait now, so we can see other things.

For NYC people, we are going in mid July, and we are deciding what to see. I know tickets should probably be purchased by now, but I haven't been able to yet. We have tickets for Queen with Adam Lambert so that means we can only see 1-2 Broadway shows now.
Since it is just starting can I assume NPH will still be in Hedwig in July? We are leaning towards that show, dd LOVES him. What else would you recommend?
We have seen Wicked, Jersey Boys, Mamma Mia, Rock of Ages, Book of Mormon, Once. Thinking of Newsies, but what else would you suggest?

Thanks!

I saw If/Then when it was in DC, I would love to see how it's changed since then. Amazing show! :D

Some one mentioned taking kids to The Heathers, when I was at Ghost on 4/5, there was a 8/9 year old behind us and for one she couldn't sit still or shut up, but for another kept talking about the "kissing scenes" and such. It's like please do your research before you take your kid to a show!

The season was just announced for The Peace Center in Greenville, SC and so THRILLED Wicked is coming closer than 6 hours away from me again! Yeah I know I have seen it 32 times, but I have seen it every year since 2010, and ironically I saw it in Greenville the first time in 2010 and plan to try and go back on my 5 year anniversary! :D

I look forward to Pippin, Kinky Boots, Annie, Cinderella that's coming to Durham. Renewed my season ticket for next year! :D
