The Broadway show thread where we discuss all things Broadway

Love the pictures of the Music Man!!!!
And I HATE when people disrespect like that! I would have had a very hard time not saying something myself. My husband probably would have. He once stood up and told all the younger kids parents to sit down at a choir concert, because all the 6th grade parents would just leave before the 7th and 8th grade choirs would sing.
My dd is playing Mushnik in Little Shop at school tomorrow through Sunday, I am sure we will have some rude person do something stupid!

Deb, I loved seeing the pics of your son! :thumbsup2

Does anyone know of there are discounted tickets for Jesus Christ Superstar, on Broadway? It's in previews right now. Are preview tickets usually less? I should probably walk over to the TKTS booth. But, it's in such a limited run, I wouldn't think it's up there.

I absolutely love the show and every song (except the 39 lashes.) I've seen various productions 3 times and catch the movie whenever it comes on TV, although that rock version is not my favorite version. I'd love to see it again.

Nope, it's not sold out. According to the TDF website, it was on TKTS last week: http://www.tdf.org/TDF_SupportPage.aspx?id=68&do=v

There are discounts for it on Playbill.com's website too.

It's supposed to be a really good production of JCS. Love that show. :thumbsup2

Thanks! I didn't know there was a list of what was put up at TKTS. :goodvibes

There's actually an app for it now, if you have an iPhone. If you go to the TDF website, I think they'll update once the booth opens as well.

Good luck (or rather, break a leg!) to your DD!

I love seeing kids getting involved in the performing arts! Especially high school kids - they have SO MUCH energy and excitement about being on stage!

Yes, our school had that problem with parents/families leaving after their special snowflakes sang. It was so bad, that if your child was in the grade that performed last, more than half the audience was gone! Finally, the choir director had to announce, "Please refrain from leaving before the end of the entire show. Your child will be in their classroom and will be released to you after the end of the show." But how sad that they had to make that into an announcement. :sad2:

Thanks, Imzadi! I can't believe how quickly my baby is growing up. :sad1:

We LOVE Jesus Christ Superstar! We have been the touring productions several times - many years ago with Ted Neeley and Carl Anderson (RIP, Carl), and more recently, Neeley with Corey Glover from Living Colour. DD, who had not seen it before but knew all the songs from our CD's, turned to me and said, "Mom, Jesus is OLD!!!:scared1: He's not supposed to be old; he died when he was 33!"

Those Music Man photos are fantastic! The costumes are amazing. :thumbsup2

That is so obnoxious to leave in the middle of the performance just because their own child has finished performing. That's just so rude.

It's becoming an annoying new phenomenon on Broadway now too - if someone really famous is in the show, people start leaving before the show ends so they can rush to the stage door and wait for autographs. When Daniel Radcliffe was in How to Succeed, people were bolting out of the theater before "Brotherhood of Man" (which is the best part of the whole show!) to get to the stage door. What is wrong with these people? :sad2:

My kids are all out of school now, but I remember countless winter and spring concerts where that would always happen. As soon as one group finished its performance, whether it be orchestra, concert band or chorus, there would be a *** exodus of people there just to see their little darling perform and showed no consideration for other performers, so that by the time you got to the last ensemble, the audience looked practically empty.

I was probably a little understating when I said he told them to sit down, he stood up and yelled it. He had people coming up and saying thank you when the concert was over. I just HATE it! I enjoy choir/band concerts or whatever, I would never dream of leaving when my kid was done. It's just wrong.
The community choir she was in, figured it out, they mixed the choirs up and they all sang at various times throughout the performance, so parents couldn't leave :).

So THAT'S what they are all in a rush for!

I thought it was so that they wouldn't have to fight the crowd to get out of the theater.

But to miss the finale, and the curtain calls (which I always enjoy) and to not stay to give the cast an ovation is just wrong. :sad2:

our school has gone to the mixing up thing too, unfortunately it takes longer. Sometimes they do, sometimes they don't - you never know.

While I agree that it is rude for parents to leave when their darling are done, it is even worse when they talk or otherwise make noise when theirs aren't up. We have had to put up with so much of it that I give up and would rather they just leave!!!!!

They're crazy. I heard at one show (not naming the show, since it's part of the final scene and I didn't want to spoil it) that ends with the main character walking up the aisle of the theater, the actor actually had to duck around two women who decided that was as good a time as any to make their own exit. Seriously.

I heard it happened at How to Succeed all the time, and it happened when I saw Hugh Jackman's show too. I was in standing room for Hugh's show, so I could see a ton of people getting up and leaving during his last song so they could head for the stage door. It was unbelieveable.

And they not only missed his last song, they missed him auctioning off his shirt for charity afterwards too. No way am I missing either of those!

That's disgusting and so disrespectful.

I remember when I was still in high school, My best friend & I, and another friend went to see Richard Gere in Bent. It was sometime around his American Graffiti, fame. My best friend had the biggest crush on him. (Me, not so much.) So we thought there would be a crowd of women standing by the door.

Turns out, it was such a depressing story line, about 2 men in a Nazi concentration camp, that NO ONE was waiting by the door. :confused3 We three girls were the only ones, huddled out in the cold for a good 20 minutes after the show. The stage door man took pity on us and finally allowed us inside, to wait for Gere.

About another 5 minutes later, Richard Gere & the other star, David Dukes, finally trudged down the stairs. They were shocked to find us waiting there. They were so wonderful to us. They signed our Playbills and chatted with us. And I was so nervous and star struck, I blabbered away, a mile a minute. I don't even remember what I said. :lmao: I just blabbered.

But, I'll never forget how very kind they were to us, when there was no big crowd to impress or any press photographers around. :thumbsup2

Do you perhaps mean American Gigolo? Richard Gere was certainly not in American Graffiti

Whoops! My bad. Yes, it was American Gigolo. As I said, it was my best friend who was crushing on him, not me. Obvious if I got the name of the movie wrong.

I am happy to say I did not see any flash photography at our run of Little Shop this weekend! Here is a pic I stole from our local papers website, I havne't seen the pics my dh took at final rehearsal yet. My daughter is on the right, Ms. Mushnik :)...

GREAT picture, elgerber! You must be so proud of your DD!!

"Seymour" looks a bit like a young Darren Criss. "Audrey" looks just like the one in the movie! Did your props folks make it?
