The Broadway show thread where we discuss all things Broadway

We saw Mary Poppins today. In a word?

WOW!!!

I really wasn't expecting much, don't ask me why. We were absolutely blown away by this show!! It was wonderful. I told DH I felt like I took a trip to Disney today.

So entertaining, so uplifting. I highly recommend it! It was one of those shows where, when it ended we looked at each other and said "I'd see this again!". :yay: :cloud9:

I agree about Mary Poppins. I wasn't expecting much either and absolutely loved the show. We've seen it twice now and I'd like to go back.

My only complaint with with Mary Poppins is WHY oh WHY do they sell popcorn???? I thought I would go insane with the kids behind us - they
ate throughout the show which involved A LOT of bag crackling - very distracting!

Oh, and the teenager who kept singing along :headache:

DW and I caught a matinee of Phantom of the Opera on Saturday.
Still a great show!!

We saw the Lion King when it first opened on Broadway, I remember mailing them a check and waiting for the tickets to go on sale!

After seeing Mary Poppins my DH wants to see Lion King again. I'm not arguing ;)

I saw how to succeed in business with darren Criss the other night. While he wasn't the strongest singer I have ever seen on broadway he has chrisma to spare.

Dd LOVED LOVED the show. The rest of the cast was great (Jeff bridges can't sing but he can act). Dd wants to see it again with nick Jonas and I may just let her ;)

Oh I'm jealous. I love Darren Criss.

I just saw Spamalot last weekend and I loved it. I am a big fan or Monty Python and the Holy Grail so I had high expectations and I was not disappointed. It was so funny and singing and dancing were great.

I see your avatar is you with Constantine, what did you think of him?

Just got home from seeing "Rock of Ages" on Broadway. Silly plot, but good singing and dancing. Lots of great snippets of '80s rock songs.

We've seen it 4 times - such a fun show :thumbsup2 We saw it when it first opened off-Broadway with Constantine.

I saw Constantine in Rock of Ages on tour, absolutely loved it, and him!! Totally absurd but totally awesome! My dd and I both have the old fashioned baseball style tour shirts.

for fans of "Peter and the Starcatchers" - I read recently that the play will be coming to Broadway this spring!

just thought I would post this due to the Disney connection!

(Sorry is it has been posted before and I missed it!)

we have tickets for "Harvey" in June (love Jim Parsons) and are considering options for a second show, maybe "Mary Poppins"!

Thanks! Oh, and I highly recommend Mary Poppins! :thumbsup2

The family and I are going to see Harvey at the end of May. I am a fan of the jimmy stewart movie and love Jim Parsons.

can I also recomend Newsies? I saw it in NJ at the papermill and it was so much fun! DD and I plan to see it when it comes to broadway.

Great show. Always loved the film as a kid and still do. Don't want to spoil it in case someone hasn't seen it, but Burt's dance routine in "Step in Time" is phenomenal. Actually, there's plenty of magical moments.
