The Broadway show thread where we discuss all things Broadway

We saw Mary Poppins last week and then yesterday we went in for a matinee of Wonderland (very good show and nice theater!) and then went and got tickets at TKTS for BIlly Elliot and caught the 7:30 show of that. Went out to dinner in between shows! I liked doing shows that way- I think we may do another double header the beginning of June!

Love reading this thread!

Can anyone tell me...how family-friendly is "How to Succeed in Business..."?

No too bad. It was written in 1961. The company president is cheating on his wife, but that may not be obvious to kids.

We saw Billy Elliot yesterday. It was ok, I wasn't "wowed" by it. To much swearing. With so many kids in the cast, I wasn't expecting it to be so "adult". The boy who played Billy was an AMAZING dancer.

Hope you guys don't mind me popping into your thread? I am trying to fit four plays in a short visit to NYC. We will arrive Friday and depart on Sunday. The only must see is Mamma Mia. The plan is to catch a show Friday, two on Saturday and one on Sunday. We don't intend on doing anything else while we are there.

I want to use TKTS. Can you tell me how bad the lines are generally? This would be a weekend in June. It won't be doable if I can't get the discounted tickets but I don't want to spend hours upon hours in line.

Lisa, I don't like to wait in the TKTS lines if I don't have to. I get on playbill.com, broadwaybox.com, theatermania.com and broadwayworld.com and get discount codes for the shows I want to see. Then I order them online before our trip. I still wait in the TKTS line some but not often! Have a great trip.

Saw American Idiot today for the !7th time! It was amazing,we were in row B, orchestra, I could see the sweat on Billie Joe's face :lovestruc

After the show we saw his wife, Adrienne, running to her car. She is so sweet, she turned around when we called her name.

We have tickets to the final performance, next Sunday night. I'm excited and sad all at the same time :guilty::yay:

Definitely try Broadwaybox. They have some great discounts! If you are at least 35, I will recommend Rock of Ages...such a fun show!

We were there last Saturday and this past Saturday around 5pm and it took us less than ten minutes to get to the front of the line both days! Honestly you can get the same or better deal by getting discount codes and buying them online to a lot of the plays. The cheapest tix they had there were 75.00 each and they never have tickets for wicked there if thats on your list. If you are going to use TKTS just make sure you get on the right line-one side is non musicals and the other is musicals!
I got tickets for mary poppins online for 65.00 and wonderland online for 40.00 using discount codes.

Thanks everyone! I love the discounts at Broadwaybox. That will work out so much better. I didn't want to have to waste time standing in line.

I have to admit...I thought the swearing in Billy Elliot was hilarious. And I saw it London, where the swearing was supposedly worse. :rotfl:

Nice! I'd love to go to the last show, but I think we closed it out nicely with our front row experience last week. That last show should be pretty wild, especially with Billie Joe in the cast.

Speaking of our show last week...I framed my poster along with my front row ticket today (while watching Green Day's Bullet in a Bible blu-ray, not that I had a theme going on or anything):

OMG, you did an awesome job!!! I'm hiring you to frame my next poster, LOL!!
Billie Joe was so funny, he proposed to Van after the show! I'll post the video as soon as I download it!

Thanks! :yay:

The red background came out a little uneven, but I thought it fit with the poster (and I don't have the patience to take it back out and fix it). Now I have to figure out where I'm going to put it up.

That's hilarious! He's going to be totally out of control at the last show, it should be amazing. I saw on Twitter yesterday that he wants to start a petition to get Alice Cooper to come see the show.

My mom has a total crush on Billie Joe now. She said the next time Green Day goes on tour we have to go see them. I've turned her into a GD junkie! :rotfl:

We were right up front (I have a crappy camera) and when he was walking off the stage I held up a sign that said Thank You 17X!!! My Dh swears he looked at it and smiled! :woohoo: I saw the petition, too funny! *someone* told us that they have something "very special" planned for the last performance - I will die if Tre and Mike show up!

I'm willing to bet anything Mike and Tre are at the last show. It should be incredible!
